Learn to dance for your wedding, or just for fun! I teach several styles of Latin and Ballroom dance.
My lessons focus on connecting with your partner and being in tune with his or her movements. A proper connection makes it easy to quickly learn new steps, and to move together as naturally as possible.

For online/video lessons: Connection is a tricky thing to teach online. To learn to lead or follow well, it's important to have tactile feedback in order to feel the relationship between your movement and the results from your partner, and vice versa.

However, with attention to, body mechanics and a focus on alignment and movement technique, online lessons can be a good place to start. Especially if the thought of group classes is intimidating for you, starting with online lessons can help you learn some basics at your own pace (or even help sort out your feet!) before jumping into a group lesson. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Carolyn is an incredible teacher and a fantastic role model. Her encouragement, patience, skill and attention to detail has resulted in my daughter having learned (and continuing to learn) more than we could have ever imagined musically (voice/piano), and about performing on stage. Being Carolyn's student has also resulted in our daughter having more self confidence and higher self esteem. Carolyn brings out the best in her students and the dedication that she has for them is unparalleled. It has been a joy to watch our daughter grow as a musician under Carolyn's instruction.

Today what's the first lesson for my two girls with Carolyn. All I can say but the lesson was absolutely amazing my girls came out extremely inspired with lots of exciting homework to do they couldn't wait to show me what they've learned and couldn't wait to start practicing Carolyn was everything we were hoping for and a lot more. I have no doubts that would have made the best choice who could possibly make. My girls can't wait for their next lesson.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏👏

Teresa was awesome! She worked with me and my limited flexibility and really set me up for success with exercises to integrate into my routine. She was also very cognizant of a prior injury and presented long term alternate solutions to tissue regrowth. I really look forward to working with her again!

She was really great, we have only had one lesson so far but she made me feel very comfortable and I feel like she will be perfect for me helping me get over my stage fright. She came up with quite a few ideas up front and can tell she is taking it seriously, which makes me even more confident in her because it is such a serious issue for me. I am looking forward to working with her.

Private Dance Lessons Near You

Dance is one of the most popular performing arts. Talented dancers can hold their own on the stage, entertaining an entire audience with expressive movement and stunning choreography. Different forms of dance can move us to tears, astonishment, and joy.

A fun way to get comfortable in your body and connect with others, dance can benefit anyone who wants to learn. Whether you want to study ballet, ballroom, tap, jazz, swing, modern, country, or hip hop dance, private lessons will help you start moving to the beat. Keep reading to learn how dance can help you.

How Dance Classes Can Benefit You

Dance is an incredibly beneficial practice — not only professionally, but personally as well. Learning to dance can open up a variety of career opportunities in performing arts and entertainment. Whether you dream of doing pirouettes across a stage as a ballerina in a professional dance company, working as a dancer in the music or music video business, or dancing with guests as a host or hostess on a cruise liner, professional dance lessons can get you there.

Dance classes are also incredibly beneficial for other types of entertainers and performers. If you're in the acting business, in a band, or dream of making it big in musical theater, a background in dance will prove useful. Dance will make you more comfortable and coordinated in your body and help you feel comfortable, using the stage in a performance.

Dance is also very healthy. It's a workout that focuses on three primary aspects of fitness: flexibility, strength, and endurance. This all-in-one workout is good for everyone; it's a fun way to get healthy and stay in shape.

The Best Way to Learn to Dance and What You'll Practice in Lessons

It's easy to find free dance classes, tutorials, and training videos online, but the best way to learn to dance is with a private dance tutor. With a private teacher, you'll spend your time in lessons designed to address your interests, learning needs, and dance goals — rather than wasting time in one-sized-fits-all lessons. You'll pick up new choreography and overcome individual challenges quickly, as you receive immediate feedback.

No two private lessons the same. For example, dance classes for children differ from dance lessons for adults in terms of teaching methods and content. In private lessons, you'll stay motivated and interested, while working at a pace and level that's comfortable for you.

Sample Curriculum for Beginner Dance

If you have no previous formal experience in dance, then beginner lessons are for you. You'll be introduced to the basics of caring for and conditioning your body, while learning beginner techniques in your choice of dance style. In beginner lessons, your teacher might cover the following topics:

  • Warming up and stretching out
  • Exploring different styles of dance
  • Listening to music and finding rhythm
  • Basic dance moves and choreography

Sample Curriculum for Intermediate Dance

If you've already had some formal dance training with a professional and feel comfortable with the introductory choreography in your field of dance, then you'll feel most comfortable in intermediate lessons. You'll build upon your existing knowledge and skills, continuously challenging yourself to progress into more complex and technically difficult choreography. Your teacher might choose to cover the following topics:

  • Dance fitness and injury prevention
  • Focus on your favorite dance style
  • Learn more complex steps and routines
  • Practice expressive movement

Sample Curriculum for Advanced Dance

Whether you're an experienced ballerina, looking to diversify your abilities by studying another form of dance, or hoping to perfect your individual style of hip hop dance, advanced lessons are for you. In advanced classes, you'll have the opportunity to work with a highly experienced dance professional to hone your talent and push your physical limits. Subjects covered in advanced dance depend greatly on the student's individual goals and interests, but your teacher might cover the following:

  • Advanced choreographing
  • Marketing yourself in performance arts
  • Audition coaching
  • Performance preparation

How to Find a Dance Teacher Near You

If you're ready to start dancing with the guidance of an experienced professional, you'll need a teacher. Luckily, TakeLessons makes finding a private dance tutor easy. With a quick search, you'll have pages of qualified dance teachers, with loads of teaching experience, to choose from — no matter the type of dance that interests you most. Before choosing a teacher, we recommend browsing through several profiles, reading reviews left by other students, and finding a dance teacher who specializes in your preferred style of dance.

The cost of dance lessons depends on the individual teacher's rates, but most instructors charge fees based on the length of lessons. With so many teachers to choose from, you won't have a problem finding one who fits your budget and your schedule. Plus, you'll find that your investment in private lessons pays off quickly, as you pick up new skills fast and improve your ability to move after your very first lesson!
