Elsa is an amazingly thoughtful, personable, and patient instructor. During our weekly lessons, Elsa came up with interesting discussion topics to help with the advancement of my French conversational skills. Further, Elsa also thoroughly explained French grammatical structure when correcting/pointing out my errors.

I have truly made significant progress during my lessons with Elsa and highly recommend her.

Bonjour & bienvenue!

French is my native language and whether you're a beginner or experienced French speaker, I would be happy to:
1) Teach you French from scratch,
2) Enrich your vocabulary & conversational abilities, or
3) Polish your accent to make you sound like a real French person!

French is my native language, but I do understand the joy & challenges of approaching a new language, as I also learned English, Italian and Tunisian (dialect of Arabic).

I'm looking forward to meeting you online, in a coffee shop or at home (yours or mine, in Chicago).

À bientôt!

Natahlie was a great instructor I have taken classes before at Berlitz for work and had a much harder time getting started. Working with a instructor one on one made me feel more comfortable than a class room setting. In the past I have had instructors more concerned with covering material than making sure everyone is on the same page. Natahlie was very patient we me and made sure I understood the different nuances of the language before moving ahead with the lesson.

Bonjour ! I am FRENCH !

I have a Bachelor in Family Life Science, 2011 at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. For the rest I went to school in France and got 5 diplomas in the clothing industry.

I love teaching very much, whether French, which is my native language, or sewing.

I have been a French Lab Assistant at Brigham Young University and helped my students pass their French classes.

I taught French to 4 children of different ages as well while attending BYU as I was living with an American family for about a year, just like an aupair type of situation. I mostly used board games and playing with their toys or on the trampoline to help them practice the words and sentences in real context, that's very important.

I have taught private English lessons in France, and I taught sewing too.

I lived in London for a year working as a seamstress.

If you are traveling to a French speaking country, I'd be happy to assist you via Skype, for example, while abroad.

Alternative Foreign Language Lesson Methods:
Apps and Books

For independent language learners, downloading popular language apps - free and premium - or checking out books from the library are excellent options. They cost less overall than private lessons, and allow you to learn at your own pace, on your own time, and the topics of your own choosing. The downside is that you don't have personal instruction for the times you need to overcome any challenging obstacles. Learning with a partner or a teacher gives you the personal interaction you need to verbally practice and attempt the language.

Travel & Immersion

If you're considering study-abroad programs to France or Canada, work relocation, international business opportunities, or general travel as a means to learning the language, immersing your self in the origin country and interacting with locals is a surefire way to accelerate your learning. Reading signs, menus, and local newspaper magazines while abroad could expose you to all kinds of spontaneous subjects. Conversing with or having to ask native speakers for directions or recommendations forces you to proactively apply your lessons. The downside is that many students, professionals, and travelers don't feel as confident in taking this approach. Not knowing the basics of the language could backfire on you, and lead to poor decision making. Traveling in countries where English isn't the primary language can be risky if you don't plan ahead. If you learn basic conversation and the most popular phrases for traveling, then you can combine this knowledge with immersion and return home a more fluent speaker.

Group Classes

Taking small group classes to learn a new language is another good way to acquire basic language skills, immediate feedback, and human interaction. It combines both passive and active learning. A professional instructor leading the class can keep the agenda tight and ensure each student gets the chance to participate, and get their questions answered. It can also be more affordable than private 1-on-1 lessons. Find local group classes near you by doing a quick Google search, or better yet, sign up for TakeLessons Live, the new and affordable way to learn how to speak French and other languages, and to learn how to play musical instruments in small groups of 5-8. You pay a flat monthly or annual fee, and get unlimited access to hundreds of classes online every month. Perfect for beginners.

At TakeLessons, we understand every student is different, and that the best way to learn any language is to try a combination of various learning techniques. Try all of the above, find out what works best for you, and then study hard and smart. It's only a matter of time before you achieve your goals.
