I have taught beginning clarinet both in private and group lessons and in a full beginning band setting.

About Amy
As I child I had an early interest in music, dancing and creative things. I took piano lessons and excelled at my chosen instrument, the flute, in band at school. I continued with my music training at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education in 1992. I worked for 11 years in my profession in various settings before I took a break to start my family. My experience includes teaching students in classroom general music, choir, band, piano lessons, and school plays/musicals. I spent six years at a private school (grades K-8), three years at a charter elementary school and 2 years at a public elementary school. Also, since graduating in 1992 I have spent a total of 18 years teaching private lessons both at Hovland Conservatory of Music and in my home. Along the way I
further broadened my background by accompanying church choirs and congregations, playing for weddings, and volunteering to lead children’s music time at church.

I love music of all kinds and have a strong belief that everyone should experience the joy and power of it in his or her life. It is very rewarding for me to help students develop their skills as they discover a meaningful way of self-expression using a universal language. Teaching music is something I love to do and I know that fact reflects to my students resulting in an enjoyable experience for them as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
What can a student/parent expect from lessons with me? I can provide my students with a solid foundation of proper technique. This is so very important because you do not ever want to have to unlearn bad habits. I also include appropriate music theory, ear training and improvising for each level. I purposefully pace the lessons to prevent students from feeling frustrated. Instead, I work to generate excitement about the learning process and keep students motivated by their own progress. Furthermore, I am willing to accommodate a student if they have a special interest in a certain musical genre or a personal goal they are working towards. I encourage, but do not require students to take advantage of recital and performance opportunities that I provide.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Large music room: piano, electric keyboard, flute, clarinet, trumpet, music stands.
*** Specialties ***
I have a lot of experience teaching students who are brand new to their instrument. I believe the beginning is a very important time to start building a solid foundation for all future musical growth. I love being able to help my students establish good habits from the beginning and influence the overall direction of a new student’s musical experience.

I love music of all kinds and have fun playing and teaching all the instruments that I listed. However, the two instruments that I have the most training on and have performed on are the piano and the flute. I would be a great teacher for private lessons to help a student excel in band at school or for a high school student preparing for contests or auditions. Also, I am very patient with beginners and would be ideal as a child'€™s first piano teacher or for an adult who has always wanted to play a certain instrument of his or her choice.

I like Amy very much and I think we will get along very well. She is very patient and reminds me that perfection is impossible at the beginning of any instrument learning. I will enjoy having her very much.

Experienced teacher of 10 years, specializing in brass, woodwinds, and beginner/intermediate jazz! I just landed in Shoreview, MN from the top-shelf music programs of Poway Unified School District in San Diego, CA. Whether you are just learning your first notes or you're ready to start jazz improvisation, let's jam!

About Dayna
I am a life-long musician, performing with my vocalist mother from age 4 and studying piano and voice for all of my childhood. However, it all changed the day my 5th grade band teacher put a tuba on my shoulder. It was a match right from the start and, from that day forward, my life has revolved around school band. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from South Dakota State University, marching with the Pride of the Dakotas for the 2000 Independence Day parade in Washington D.C. as well as in the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade. Upon graduation I taught in rural South Dakota schools for 4 years before packing up and moving to Los Angeles, CA to pursue a career in songwriting. While composing is still a part of what I do as a musician, I missed teaching and took a position with a prestigious middle school music program in San Diego, C
A. I taught individual lessons, small ensembles, and jazz band there for 5 years, before packing up once again and heading for the Twin Cities where, with any luck, I'll once again have a full studio of amazing students!

I continuously perform, write, and play music and I love to tailor lessons toward the goals and interests of each student. I incorporate different styles and techniques that help students at any level be a greater success!

Developing and understanding Clarinet fundamentals are crucial to Clarinet playing no matter the level of playing. Focusing and cultivating good fundamental habits will lead to a students success. Finding the joy, love, and passion in music is just as important while developing good habits.

These good habits can be developed through the help with Band and Orchestral music, Solo Repertoire, and basic method books. Whether you're just starting to learn clarinet, looking for more guidance, or even looking to re-kindle your love for the clarinet, I can help you achieve your clarinet goals.

About Michael
I am a recent Clarinet performance major graduate from DePaul University, that studied with the now retired principal clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Larry Combs.

Not only is teaching one of my favorite parts of music, it is a very important part of music. Lessons will include the development of skills such as tone production, embouchure, proper technique, knowledge of Clarinet repertoire, reading music and much more that is equally important to successful Clarinet playing.

We highly recommend Dean for Sax lessons. For the past two years, Dean has been giving weekly lessons to my 13 year old son. Dean is kind, patient, reliable and developed a great rapport with my son. He also successfully prepared my son for his LaGuardia audition (high school for performing arts). Thanks to Dean’s efforts my son was admitted to this prestigious program.

I am a clarinet major from Ireland taking my masters in conducting. I have extensive experience teaching all ages of clarinet. I also teach piano and have an Irish music background. I'm very versatile and can bring lots of different aspects to my teaching. I have over 12 years teaching experience in Ireland.

About Karen
Hello everyone,
I'm Karen from Dublin, Ireland. I moved to OH in Aug 2018 to complete my Masters of Music as assistant orchestral conductor at Kent State. I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Trinity College Dublin. I have over 12 years experience teaching classroom, one on one lessons, choirs, bands and orchestra. I have worked with children and adults with special needs and I love seeing and bringing the potential out in people.

Karen Ní Bhroin is from Co. Wexford, Ireland and is one of Ireland’s leading young female conductors. Karen is a Music Education graduate of Trinity College Dublin. Karen holds the position Graduate Assistant Orchestral Conductor at Kent State University, Ohio where she is pursuing her masters in orchestral conducting with Dr. Jungho Kim.

Summer of 2018 saw Karen on the Britten – Pears Young
Artist scheme, studying as one of four conductors with Marin Alsop and Valentina Peleggi for two weeks in Snape Maltings, UK.

In 2017 Karen made her Debut with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra in a lunchtime programme that was broadcast live for RTE Lyric FM. img_0124.jpg

During 2016/2018 Karen was Conductor in Training with RTE Choirs, Orchestras and Quartets Conductor in Training. Here she worked with chorus master Mark Hindley and the RTE Philharmonic Chorus and RTE principal guest conductor Nathalie Stutzmann.

In 2016 Karen won the Orion Young Conductors Award at MusicFest in Aberystwyth Wales with the Orion Orchestra and Toby Purser.

in 2014 Karen was one of 3 finalists in the ESB Electric Ireland Feis Ceoil, inaugural conducting competition where she conducted the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Karen began her musical training at the age of four on tin whistle, concertina and piano with her aunt, Nóra Kavanagh. In 2006 Karen was awarded a place at the RIAM to study clarinet under Fintan Sutton, and won the EBS Electric Ireland Feis Ceoil Senior Clarinet competition 2012. DSC_0109

Leaving the clarinet for the baton, Karen made her conducting debut with Trinity College Orchestra in 2013 in the final year of her degree. Karen has previously studied conducting privately with Neil Thomson, Robert Houlihan, Denise Ham, John Longstaff and David Brophy. She has also attended conducting courses and classes in Europe and America with Rodolfo Saglimbeni, Neil Varon and John Farrer.

I found Karen to be the most wonderful teacher. She is patient (she'd need to be with students like me!) and encouraging. As an adult beginner I wasn't sure what to expect, but I couldn't have asked for a better teacher to introduce me to the piano. One of these days (in some very distant future) I hope to do her proud by appearing on stage somewhere!
