*** Lesson Details ***
I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

Dr. Carl S. will be teaching at Oklahoma State University as a Lecturer of Saxophone and Music Theory during Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert's sabbatical beginning August 2017. His duties include graduate saxophone lessons, graduate music theory review, graduate saxophone pedagogy, and saxophone studio class. Carl has an online music studio through TakeLessons, where he teaches several instruments privately and in group settings including saxophone, guitar, oboe, music theory, flute, clarinet, and piano.

Prior to working at OSU, Carl was Instructor of Jazz and Saxophone at South Dakota State University from 2014-2017. He graduated from Harrah High School in 2002, earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2008, and was a 5th-12th grade Head Band Director at Fairview Public schools. He is currently a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the Jazz Education Network, Music Teachers National Association, treasurer of the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and an Honorary Member of Tau Beta Sigma. He has held previous memberships with Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Delta Pi, and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.

While at KU, Carl was also a graduate teaching assistant for the saxophone studio and jazz studies program. His responsibilities included Assistant Director of the KU Jazz Festival, directing Jazz Ensembles II-III, directing Jazz Combo III-VI, assisting with the KU Jazz Festival, directing Saxophone Quartets II-III, teaching private saxophone lessons, assisting in saxophone studio class, and teaching the music education woodwind methods course. His Lecture Recital Document, A Performer’s Analysis of Selected Jazz Works for Saxophone Quartet, featured an interview with Bob Mintzer. Carl was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, KU Saxophone Quartet I, and KU's Helianthus New Music Ensemble. As a member of KU's Jazz Ensemble 1, Carl has performed with Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Alex Sipiagin, Steve Owen, Gary Foster, Steve Houghton, Clint Ashlock, David von Kampen, Peter Epstein, Jeff Miley, James Miley, Roger Shew, and Brian Hamada, Brandon Draper, Rich Wheeler, Beau Bledsoe, Jeff Harshbarger, and Matt Otto. In July 2014, Carl went on a European tour with KU Jazz Ensemble I featuring Steve Leisring and Deborah Brown. Together, they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Vienne Jazz Festival in France, and performed in several cities in Germany. Recordings by this band resulted in KU winning the DownBeat Student Award (Graduate College Large Jazz Ensemble Division) in 2015.

While at OSU, Carl was a GTA for the saxophone studio and music theory programs. His responsibilities included Music Theory I-IV tutoring and grading, sight-singing grading, piano labs, classical and jazz saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet coaching, saxophone studio Webmaster, and saxophone studio class. Carl was a member of the OSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1. He had a regularly performing jazz trio and played in OSU's X2End saxophone quartet. The X2End quartet performed locally at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Washington D.C., at the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and has won the state and division rounds of the 2010-2011 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. The X2End quartet went on to win the 3rd place prize at the national final round of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. They also were the Division II Chamber Ensemble winners at the 2011 Hubbard Music Competition where they were awarded the 2nd place prize in the overall finals. Carl's final degree paper at OSU was a study of composer/performer collaboration. He traveled to Texas, Michigan, and Ohio to interview saxophonists and composers including David Dees, Peter Fischer, John Sampen,Marilyn Shrude, Joe Lulloff, and Charles Ruggiero. He has presented his lecture at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and the 2012 OSU Single Reed Summit. As a member of OSU's Jazz Ensemble 1, he has performed with Bob Sheppard, Conrad Herwig, Wayne Bergeron, and Andy Martin.

While at SWOSU, Carl performed as a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A, saxophone quartet, and his own jazz combo named Five-Seven. As a member of SWOSU's Jazz Ensemble A, he has performed with Dan Haerle, Bob Bowman, Jack Mouse, Fred Forney, Janice Borla, Eddie Daniels, Pamela York, Lynn Seaton, Carl Allen, Dr. Michael Cox, Tom Williams, Dr. Robert Chambers, Dave Hanson, Drori Mondlak, Delores Williams, Byron Stripling, Frank Wess, Kenny Drew Jr.,Dennis Mackrel, Bill Watrous, Rich Eames, Jennifer Leitham, and Randy Drake.

During summer of 2014, he recorded selections from Dr. John Walker's "The Alto Saxophone in the Attic," published by Carl Fischer. At the 10th Annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival in 2015, Carl directed SDSU Jazz Ensemble I's premier of Dog, Tired by David von Kampen.

​Dr. Carl is a Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist. He hosted the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 (ND, SD, NE, MN, IA) Conference at South Dakota State University on March 17-18, 2017. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Carl performed Dreams in the Dusk by David Biedenbender with South Dakota State University's Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Jacob Wallace. On Monday, February 6, 2017, Carl will be performed the premiere of Lhotse for alto saxophone and percussion by Steve Danyew with Dr. Aaron Ragsdale.

Proper embouchure and hand position make all the difference in the world in how well a clarinet player will do as they advance. It's MUCH easier to build good technique from the start than to try to go back and break bad habits, so let's get started on the right foot!

I grew up in a music store, and learned a love for music at an early age. I started piano at age 3, and just kept adding instruments from there. I majored in music at MidAmerica Nazarene University, where I was on scholarship for Piano, Trumpet and French Horn. I have taught General Music, Beginning Band, and Beginning Orchestra in four LA area private and charter schools, as well as teaching music classes for home-school co-op groups in the Hollywood area. I've been teaching private lessons for nearly 10 years, taking students from ages 4-adult, from beginner to intermediate skill levels.

I love the fact that Megan manages to balance exercises that are really fun and easy for me as well as some which are harder and which I need to work on. She adjusts the pace to my abilities and I always feel I have accomplished something after our lessons, which is great.
She lets me chose songs, but always has suggestions, if I don't.

I whole-heartedly recommend Ryan as a private instructor. My middle school-aged son had enjoyed learning to play saxophone in his school band, but towards the end of his 1st year was getting bored by the slow pace. After beginning lessons w Ryan (through the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music) his interest, enthusiasm & skill improved dramatically & he began to excel as a musician. Ryan was soon guiding him through more complicated compositions, and the joy of playing was evident every time my son picked up his sax. With Ryan’s training, he learned to prepare for auditions, and as a result has won a seat (and solos!) in several State & city select bands, jazz ensembles and every group his school has to offer.

Ryan’s personality was a great fit for my son. He’s very professional, while being completely approachable, patient & encouraging, and his love of music is passed along to his students. His versatility & broad knowledge of musical genres allow him to introduce new directions for his students to explore. With Ryan, my son studied classical compositions and also deepened his interest in Jazz. I have been teaching Woodwinds for quite a few years and I love it! My students have seen results from learning to love to practice, to competitive success in solo competitions. When you first come you will start to think about music in a simpler way and will gain the confidence and understanding you need to play how you would like. Normally, I use The Rubank Method to develop a lot of technique in younger students. For those playing jazz or folk, we do a lot of play alongs while focusing on specific concepts.

I have been teaching private students for about eight years. I am currently getting my degree in Saxophone Performance from BYU. I took music theory in high school and it made zero sense! After I graduated I was determined to figure it out so I went hunting for a teacher. Eventually I found Henrik and he was one of the greatest teachers ecspecially for such a hard concept. So thankful for the lessons. I highly suggest taking any of his lessons if he can teach music theory.

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass,weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

Jeff has been teaching and performing professionally for close to a decade. He enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities, and specializes in woodwinds, jazz improvisation, and theory. Some of his past students have gone on to win prestigious soloist awards, achieve top seats in classical and jazz all-state festivals, and attend well respected universities for musical studies.

About Jeff
Jeff is a saxophonist that currently teaches and performs in the Denver metro area. He recently received his Master of Arts Degree in Music – Emphasis in Jazz Studies from the University of Iowa and won the 2016 Downbeat Graduate Student Music Award for Best Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist. All About Jazz describes him as an “expressive” saxophonist, “like a seasoned veteran poised to establish himself as musician of note.”
In May of 2015, Jeff released, as a leader, his “auspicious debut” (Midwest Record), Perseverance. The album features all original compositions of a variety of styles and influences. Jeff has taken an approach in composition and arranging that “focuses on melody and sophisticated chord progressions to express himself” (Little Village Magazine).
Jeff is an active performer on the Colorado music scene. He plays in several group
s of various genres, and performs across the state for public and private events.
Originally from northern Illinois, Jeff studied Biology as an undergraduate at the University of Illinois, undertook research at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and spent several months studying in the Galapagos Islands. After a gap year serving in Americorps, he decided to follow his passion by returning to school to study music. He now works full-time in music as a performer and educator.
Jeff teaches students of all ages and abilities, and specializes in woodwinds, jazz improvisation, and theory. Some of his past students have gone on to win prestigious soloist awards, achieve top seats in classical and jazz all-state festivals, and attend well respected universities for musical studies. In the past, he also co-directed the University of Iowa Hawkeye Big Band and taught Introduction to Jazz Improvisation at the University of Iowa.

I've been studying saxophone with Jeff for a little over a year and a half now. In that time I've grown greatly as a saxophone player, musician, and improviser. Jeff does a great job of breaking things down to an understandable level while still keeping sight of the big picture - saying something important during a solo, and saying it in a way that keeps the audience interested. Lesson materials are always challenging enough to stay busy while never being too overwhelming. Jeff is a talented musician and teacher who knows what makes jazz, jazz. Anyone who is willing to put the work in and dedicate themselves will experience a lot of growth and learning with him.

Nathan Raderman has been performing music since he was ten years old. Nathan started as a clarinetist and began doubling on saxophone at age 14. Although Nathan is a Howard County native, he started his musical education at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts. While at the New England Conservatory, Nathan studied with Boston Symphony assistant principal and Boston Pops principal clarinetist Thomas Martin. After returning to Maryland, Nathan performed with the Virginia Symphony and continued his studies with David Jones, principal clarinetist of the National Opera. Nathan performed chamber music throughout the Boston area, and performed with conductor Benjamin Zander in Carnegie Hall. Nathan was a semifinalist at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition with his group, The Mülfeld Trio, and was featured on the radio program
, From The Top. Nathan continued to perform with orchestras all around Boston, including the Boston Latin American Project, the Boston Philharmonic, and the Boston Mozart Society. When working with composer John Heiss, Nathan was an Honors Chamber Music performer for two years and was a frequent performer with NEC’s Contemporary Ensemble. Hailed by the Boston Musical Intelligencer for his “melting” tone, Nathan became a founding member and principal clarinetist of the Love and Friendship Orchestra, a revolutionary project led by pianist and conductor, Yannick Rafalimanana. Nathan also performed with the New World Symphony, led by conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. Nathan’s biggest inspirations include Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem as well as actor Nicolas Cage.

I am a professional saxophonist and recording artist with 14 years of playing experience. I studied Jazz Saxophone at the Manhattan School of Music and William Paterson University, where I graduated with a Bachelors degree.
