My son does hybrid in person and online lessons with Darren. Darren is very enthusiastic, encouraging and articulate. After every lesson, my son is energized. For the first time, he advanced to state level after intensive lessons with Darren. Darren also teaches HOW to practice and clearly points out what he needs to do so my son can focus his practice. Highly recommend him.

About Victor
My name is Victor and I have been actively teaching cello for the past 4 years. In Ames, IA I had a studio of 8 students, all ranging from different age groups and abilities. I also have experience teaching online lessons, which require a slightly different approach than normal in person lessons. I recently moved to Boston to pursue my masters degree in cello performance at The Boston Conservatory. I am looking forward to building a studio here in Boston! My goal as a teacher is to help you achieve your musical goals. I try my absolute hardest to create a warm and positive environment for all of my students. I understand that all of my students are different and I make sure to create individual lesson plans for each of my students. Not only will you grow as a musician and as a cellist, but I believe that learning an instrument gives us sk
ills that can be beneficial in every aspect of our daily lives. Whether you are new to the cello, picking it back up after some time off, or at a more advanced level, I hope to hear from you! If you have any questions at all, please send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!

BIO:
Born in Minneapolis, MN, Victor Mooney began playing cello at the age of 7. While in Minneapolis he studied with Tom Austin, former member of the Minnesota Opera. Victor completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Iowa State University, where he studied with George Work. Upon graduation he was awarded the Outstanding Senior in Music award, the highest honor the Music Department at Iowa State gives. While in undergrad he also received a scholarship for excellence in performance. In the fall of 2015, Victor pursued a Master's of Music degree in Cello Performance at The Boston Conservatory, where he studied with Andrew Mark. As a 40 year old beginner I was a little nervous about the whole online experience as well as starting a new instrument. Victor makes the online teaching experience seamless. Victor is calm, thoughtful and patient. He always finds a way to explain something in a way that relates to me specifically. To do this someone must be able to listen as well as teach. This is quality I have not found in all of my teachers/instructors/coaches throught the years. Victor is also easily the most flexible of any teacher I have had. He always finds a way to accommodate my schedule and works around any issues that arise. I have really enjoyed my learning experience thus far and look forward to each lesson. I would not hesitate to recommend Victor to anyone looking to learn the cello.

I was a pianist and oboist in my early life, and now in my 40s decided that I'd love to learn to play the cello. Victor is a really wonderful teacher. He's very patient, very calm, and very responsive. Whenever I would message him, he'd respond within a few hours, and often he'd respond right away. He was very flexible when schedules changed. Whenever I would run into problems or issues with a new technique, he would find resources, such as videos, to help describe it more fully. I've had many music teachers over the years and Victor is absolutely one of the best.

About Perry
I am not currently taking new students.

My name is Perry and I have been playing flute for over twelve years. I recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York studying Flute Performance under the tutelage of Bonita Boyd. I have recently moved to Boston to begin my career freelancing and teaching before eventually pursuing Graduate studies. While at Eastman, I performed eight full solo recitals, demonstrating an eclectic range of repertoire from solo works, to unusual chamber pieces with interesting instrumentations, and concerti with full orchestral accompaniment.

From very early on in my time playing the flute, I pushed myself to compete festival auditions, competitions, and recitals. These experiences give me great insight for teaching younger students wishing to pursue flute competitively or more casu
ally!

Over the course of my playing career, I have experienced a variety of performance injuries involving my hands, arms, and torso. Through these experiences, I have gained experience in injury prevention and recovery relevant to flutists at all ages and levels. This has helped me develop more efficient and healthy approach to my own playing and greatly informed my teaching methods in the process.

My musical experiences make me well suited for teaching students of all ages to achieve individual goals. I loved the teaching I did as a part of the Eastman Community Music School and I love sharing all that I have learned with others! Being a very organized and structured person, I generally propose a steady practice regimen based on both long term goals and short term achievements! I also believe in letting students go at their own pace and constantly adjusting those milestones as required. I believe that the ultimate goal of any teacher is to give the student the means to teach themselves. This philosophy places great emphasis on practicing techniques to make students more self-aware and able to trust themselves in the practice room.
Thank you so much for reading and feel free to contact me with any questions!

Great teacher! Besides being incredibly knowledgeable in drums, he's very patient and amazing at teaching. He told me he started teaching in Brazil when he was 16, and I could see that he has experience teaching. I was lucky to run into him by a recommendation of a friend that studies in Berklee, wich is where he studied Contemporary Writting. Would recommend 100%.

About Jacob
I am a professional songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and recording artist. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically Jazz and Music Production.

Music Theory students can expect to work each week on understanding core music theory concepts. Some of the practice each week will include analyzing classical pieces, and writing out exercises on staff paper, but a large portion of the lesson is about applying the concepts to contemporary music and even to original compositions by the student. I encourage students to explore how these concepts present themselves in the genres of music that my students are interested in. Understanding how an indie rock guitarist utilizes functional harmonic theory differently from a classical jazz artist provides context for the theory that I've found is usually lacking. Learni
ng theory is best when students are excited to practice them!

I teach beginner and intermediate piano students. I've been playing piano for 10+ years with a concentration in contemporary keyboard and musical theater. Depending on the needs of the student, we can work on sight reading and classical technique, or learning how to read chord sheets and tabs online in order to play contemporary songs.

As a professional touring and recording artist, I like to work songwriting into all of my lesson plans. For any student particularly interested in songwriting, I can make that a much larger portion of the lessons. Songwriting is a uniquely intimate art. Rather than tell a student how I think they should write songs, I strive to empower the student to be able to make the artistic decisions that they want. By making conscious decisions based on their musical knowledge, the student can grow his or her's own unique songwriting voice.

My personal passion is contemporary songwriting, but my own musical journey included many genres like Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Theater, and more. I would not be the songwriter I am today without all these different experiences, so my goal has always been to foster passion and excitement for the material any student is learning.

Jacob is a fantastic instructor. He was prompt, flexible, patient, and insightful. He was well-prepared with instructional material and provided a level of teaching that went beyond expectations. I learned not only the foundational piano music theory but also how to apply it to real world experiences, such as playing with a band and song-writing. We covered a variety of topics, which provided a well-rounded learning experience. He has a deep background on piano, guitar, and music theory. His method was interactive, engaging, and fun! Don’t miss out on an opportunity to learn from Jacob. Thanks a ton!

About Andrew
I am a professional singer, pianist, songwriter, recording artist, and producer. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors of Music in Contemporary Writing and Production.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all different ages in beginner and intermediate experience levels. I studied classical piano for 12 years, and contemporary keyboard for 7 of those. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of
the student.

My personal passion is contemporary music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
