I always say to students, it's not WHAT you're playing, it's HOW you're playing it that is the sign of a good player. Technique -- the HOW -- is extremely critical, before one can play pieces -- the WHAT -- well. Lessons with me involve establishing a solid basis of technique, also learning to read music rather than playing only by ear, and of course, learning pieces. Get ready for a wonderful journey of discovery about the intricacies, difficulties, AND rewarding joys of playing the violin!

I have Doctorate in Piano Performance with Minor in Theory. I know many different composition techniques, advanced harmony and theory.

About Anastasia

After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first not

As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.

Alyssa is an upbeat, encouraging, and patient teacher. Her own singing voice is beautiful, and she sings very professionally in a wide range of genres. She is reliable, pleasant, sincere, and capable. She gives each student her full attention and tailors her lessons to each one's particular talent (as well as where they're in need of improvement). I recommend Alyssa very highly... She's delightful!

I have known Alyssa now for about a year and she is a true master of her art form. She is knowledgeable and genuine in her teaching and performing, and always seeks the best for her students. I highly recommend her as your teacher.

"Jen is the best teacher ever! She encouraged me to develop my own style, and helped me to push my voice in new directions. Working on improv was so much fun! I loved how she would work with me on a range of different styles and listened to the pace I wanted to take. Her voice is chillingly beautiful, and she clearly has the technical and music theory knowledge to help any level of student. She was and is such an inspiration! She encouraged me to connect with new musicians and now I’m starting my own band :)"

The Life-Changing Thing to Do at Your Next Voice Lesson

How can you ensure you're making the most of your time in your singing lessons? Record yourself singing, so you can listen back on it later! Consider this advice from Hayward, CA teacher Molly R...   Back when I first started voice lessons, my teacher always made sure before we got started that I brought my tape (this was the early '90s!) so that I could record the lesson. As both a student and a teacher, I certainly know the value in recording your voice lessons. When you record your …
