Olivia D. Allenhurst, NJ

About Olivia

Music is my passion. I love film and acting but music is where my heart truly lies. I am a new graduate from Berklee College of Music in Boston, but my love of music started long before my college education. I began piano lessons very young but gave that up to pursue guitar. I've also been writing from an early age, anything from lyrics to poems to short stories to screenplays. My poetry was published many times in a US wide book featuring the art of children between 6 and 12 years of age. My father, an artist (mainly painter), encouraged me to pursue my artistic passions and by the age of 12 I was writing some of my first songs on guitar. I took voice lessons over the years as well as guitar lessons and even played clarinet in my high school band. I spent a year in Puerto Rico in my ...

Awesome

Finding Olivia was no coincidence. My 11 year old daughter is so psyched when she has her lessons!
It is in Liv's home, just a 10 minute ride from where we live,it's warm, safe, and filled with talent.
The passion of music is everywhere you look,Daphne and Olivia are
Ike old souls that just jive together perfectly.
Daphne has gained confidence,a mentor, and a ton of fun,
I thought Daphne was on a short lived path,as kids often jump from one idea to the next, but I believe singing is something she will definitely peruse.
I am so pleased with Take Lessons and especially Olivia.

Wonderful!

She is very patient, organized, and makes things fun. She cares very much about what I personally want out of the lessons, and makes steady progress at a very natural pace.

I won a few guitar lessons with Albert at a Gift Auction at my son's Elementary School many years ago. Albert was a wonderful teacher who seemed to know how to play any song I suggested and got me motivated to play the guitar again! I then signed both of my kids up with him. They took lessons on and off for many years and today they both sing and play guitar every chance they get. Thank you Albert for introducing them to the guitar and motivating them to play! It is a huge part of their lives!

Albert is able to relate to students of all ages, very well and give them a solid foundation. I was eight years old when I began taking lessons from him and he gave me a foundation in Rock, Blues, and Acoustic guitar that has lasted a life time. Albert is a very patient teacher and very talented musician.

Albert is an excellent teacher of many styles - I learned classical, rock, bluegrass and folk guitar while working with him. As an older player trying to pick up an instrument again, he made me feel comfortable and much less intimidated at the task. It is true that he is very patient and dedicated to helping you realize your musical goals. I give him my highest recommendation.

Charlie has been giving lessons to my son and is the absolute best! He is passionate about music and brings such energy to each lesson. My son is learning how to play jazz from Charlie after being classically trained. It has opened up a whole new world for him.

It great listening to the lessons because Charlie and my son enjoy music so much.

Charlie is the best piano teacher I have worked with. In just two months of taking lessons with him, I have learned myriads of info about music, theory, jazz, blues, and the classics. Being under his tutelage is truly an honor and he is patient with me even when I don't practice (Although I must say he's a real stickler for that). I would recommend anyone to him with a desire for music whether you are 5 or 55.

Charles Clarke is hands down the best, Piano teacher I have ever taken lessons from. His is concise and effective in his communication and I am excelling at a steady rate. Now I am even able to figure out chord progressions by listening to recordings all because he has taught me how chords are constructed. I would highly recommend him to anybody seeking a reliable, talented and professional instructor.

Justin showed my 10 year old son how to play the trumpet and did a great job. He was patient, made my son feel comfortable and was able to help him get a better sound by the end of the very first lesson. Jalen does not give high praise easily so we were impressed that he enjoyed learning from him. My mother listened in on some of the lessons and she also said Justin did a great job - friendly personality and great tips on how to play. We highly recommend him.

"I took my kids to Miss Sherri because I kept hearing
how wonderful it was. I believe in early exposure to
music because they get so much out of it when they're
really little. And Sherri has a magical quality that
sparks their interest. Jack, 9, Andrew, 7 and my
daughter, Bailey, 6, are now clients of Shirley Grant,
a talent manager for Keisha Knight Pullian, who played
Rudy on 'The Cosby Show,' and Kathleen Herles, the
voice of 'Dora the Explorer.' Jack recently played the
lead in Running Rabbit Theater's production of 'The
Velveteen Rabbit' at the Two River Theater. We love
Miss Sherri!"

5 Excellent Sight Reading Exercises for Singers
Unless you're a career-chorister, the concept of sight reading music is probably going to at best make you slightly nervous, and at worst paralyze you with fright. However, at some point, probably when you join a choir or perhaps go to an audition, you're going to have to face that hurdle. Sight reading comes easier to some singers than others, but it's not some mythical task akin to retrieving a golden fleece; sight-reading, even for the more able, is a learned skill, and there are several sig
Songwriting Tips | The Wisdom of a One-Of-Kind Song Title
What's in a name? If you're looking for songwriting tips as you pen your next tune, check out this advice from Perth Amboy, NJ teacher Jeff S...   There is not one "right" or preferred way to write a song. It's a very individual choice. Some songwriters start out with a patch of melody or a line or two of lyric as their creative catalyst. Others will initiate the songwriting muse with a unique and instantly-captivating song title or writing from their emotions. And in this ever-cr
6 Beautiful Songs for Piano and Voice
Sometimes, it's good to take your singing practice back to the basics, and just sing with a small ensemble. Most satisfying of all is working only with a good pianist - the level of detail just you and one other musician can achieve when working on material for piano and voice is very valuable to your development as a singer, no matter what stage you're at. If you're stuck for ideas of what to work on, the following six songs - one religious, two modern pop classics, one German-language lied, o
