Learn to play one of the most recognizable instruments in the orchestra. The flute plays beautiful melodies and embellishments to add to the mood of many pieces. I can teach you how to have a good tone, how to keep your embuchure strong, and how to keep your hands from cramping up. I will use scales, breathing drills, and support training to allow you to reach your goals. I can take you as far as playing in a mid grade orchestra, and intermediate solo pieces. Contact me to talk about your goals and set up lessons.

I am a Broadway musician with over 20 years of teaching experience. I know that each student learns differently so I use many different teaching methods and musical genres in lessons. I can help you get started on an instrument, improve your current abilities, work on school band and orchestra music, prepare for festival and solo auditions, prepare for college auditions, or just find great enjoyment in playing.
I pack a lot into each lesson making sure we address things such as: posture, theory, accuracy of rhythm, note reading, warm-ups, scales, etudes, solos, musicality, composition, interpretation and technique.
I also specialize in teaching students how to practice so that they can make the most of their practice time and progress as quickly as possible.

When I hit a stumbling block, she always helps me find a way around it. If I'm having trouble internalizing a new concept, she always finds another way to look at it.
Julie has helped me to take the modest musical aptitude that I've squandered for most of my life, and finally begin to focus it.
I'm still early in the learning process, but Julie has me well on the road to achieving the personal goals I set for myself.
Thanks Julie. Keep up the good work.

In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 7 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for ones creativity.
About Roberta
Flutist, Roberta M., is equally at home playing classical and new music. I Care If You Listen has extolled her “lush, full tones… even among the best professionals, not many flute players sound so compelling in a lower register.” Praising her “extreme adventurousness,” New York Concert Review said

My 13 year old daughter has been taking flute lessons with Roberta for the past two and a half years. She has made remarkable progress during this time. Roberta is a wonderful flutist and an extraordinary, dedicated teacher. She inspires and motivates her students, and knows how to communicate with them on the appropriate level. She has a warm personality and a good sense of humor. My daughter always looks forward to her lessons with Roberta. I highly recommend Roberta both as a flutist and as a flute teacher for any level of student."
