About Loretta
I have always been fascinated with how music is created and who works behind the scenes of performances and recordings. I started playing the flute in elementary school, piano in junior high school, and singing in high school. Once I got to UMASS, Dartmouth I chose the Music option for my major. I then moved on to NYU. I have been teaching for over ten years now. Working with students both in person and online has been amazing. With online lessons I am able to work with students who love the convenience of being at home and in person I can show students what it is like to really grow! I love my students of all ages, and can only hope to show others how amazing music can be. I have worked with a handful of students with special needs and am comfortable teaching in a non-traditional style. I am currently preparing to complete my certificat
ion in music therapy. Those who can do teach, and those who can teach totally do!

*** Lesson Details ***
You will set the pace for your lesson. I want you to enjoy your time in music, so your lessons will be completely customized. We will develop a goal plan for you so that our time together is interesting, fun, and we make progress! In 3-6 months, you will have a stable technical program and have started a portfolio of music for performances, no matter what level you are. We can share sheet music in person or online (I can even email you great links to amazing performances). Just let me know where you want to be in music, and we'll work together to make it happen. I can't wait to meet you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My home studio is in a private music room. Parents can relax in our family space with coffee or tea and enjoy their children's learning at their leisure. My studio includes a 88-key keyboard, technology setup with an iMac, microphone and stand, a mirror for posture and musical instruments. I carry books for the lessons themselves (not for practice at home), and we can download or print out music as desired. If you take lessons online, I can email you links and sheet music as needed. Feel free to bring any additional equipment music you would like to share. I have some great recommendations for music books designed for both children and adult learners.

Loretta has been a very patient and open-minded voice teacher. She uses a holistic approach, listening to student needs and fears while continually, gently encouraging growth. I've never felt uncomfortable with her style of feedback and her approach has really helped me to find and unlock my voice.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

I earned a MM at San Diego State University, and a BM at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), studying with Pamela V. Martchev, Catherine Ransom and Leopoldo González.

I have work as flute teacher at Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego; REDES 2025, Tijuana and maintains a private studio in San Diego. A founding member and current teacher at ‘Música para la Paz’, AC; a non-profit organization in Ensenada, Mexico; where non-privileged and orphanage kids receive weekly and free music lessons.

I have participated in master classes with Lorna McGuee, Leslies Newman, Pattrick Gallois and Ransom Wilsom at The Banff Centre (2015–16), Jean Ferrandis at San Diego Flute Guild Spring Festival (2015)

My goal as a flute teacher is to give each student a very well rounded and thorough understanding of the instrument. Sheila's interest in music began at the age of seven when she began private instruction in classical piano, and by the age of ten, she began playing the flute. Sheila received her Bachelor of Music with a degree in Music Education from the University of Redlands, where she studied flute with Sara Andon. There, she performed in the university's Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Orchestra. During her third year at university, she studied abroad at the Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary.

Sheila has performed in many different venues around the world such as Tivoli Gardens in Denmark, the Edinburgh Trade Center in Scotland, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge, CA.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal as a music educator is to foster excellence in the art of music through private instruction. I have worked with students of all ages ranging from 5 to older adults.

In my studio, students will learn to read music and have a well rounded music education. This means that we will work on a variety of things such as music theory, music history, and a wide range of repertoire (from Beethoven to the Beatles!) While I have high expectations for my students, I do my best to keep the lessons relaxed and lighthearted. My hope is that the student is always engaged and interested during lessons.

My three expectations:

1. Come prepared both mentally and physically (this is especially important for flutists-- make sure to warm up prior to the lesson!)

2. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. This is non-threatening territory, I'm here to guide you and help you. Remember that mistakes happen, we're human. Just make sure that you learn from those mistakes so as not to make the same ones and grow from each experience.

3. For parents-- BE INVOLVED! I can't tell you how often I've seen younger students excel when their parents were proactive in the experience. This means encouraging them to practice, coming up with a rewards system, and sometimes sitting in on the lesson to take notes so that you can work on what we did during the lesson at home together. It's difficult for music teachers to compete with iPads, Playstations and television, so let's get creative together!

*** Required Materials ***
Flute students must own a well maintained flute, as an instrument that is out of adjustment causes frustration and can initiate bad habits. In addition, the student must also have a metronome and tuner, a music stand, flute repertoire, and an assignment book for me to write down each week's assignments.

Piano students must have a working acoustic piano or digital piano in their home for piano lessons. The student must also have a metronome, piano repertoire, and an assignment book for each week's assignments.

I love teaching people of all ages, both child and adult students and also believe in making lessons fun and engaging. We will work on technique, scales, long tones, basics of how to play and read music but I also like working on songs that interest students. I am a musician with an equal passion for performing and teaching. I have taught ages 8-67 at all levels from beginner to advanced. I believe in the importance of teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but I also want to find what makes music special for each individual student. I believe lessons should be fun and engaging, I try to disguise the learning as much as possible.

Lessons are individually tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of each student but here are a few things you can most likely expect to work on: basic music fundamentals like note and rhythm reading, learning/review of musical symbols and terms, good tone production, learning all the notes on the instrument, scales, technique work, and as soon as we have enough notes... FUN songs.

Many of my students lead their school bands and audition successful
ly into regional and honor bands. For students in band at school, the school music and tests will be our first priority but if we get all caught up or extra challenges are needed I will be happy to supply them. I also have recitals for my students 2-3 times a year to give them the opportunity to perform for friends and family and share what they have been learning.

If you are going to purchase an instrument or supplies before the lesson do feel free to ask for help in selecting your materials, there is nothing worse than an instrument that doesn't function properly or needs constant and expensive repairs! If you have any books feel free to bring them to the first lesson, if not then I would be more than happy to make recommendations after the first or second lesson when I've had a chance to assess the student.

I offer 45-minute and 60-minute private flute lessons from my home in Cross Junction, VA. I've taught private flute lessons for the last 10 years and have worked with students of all ages--8 to 73! My students have gone on to win local and state-wide competitions and have been accepted to collegiate music programs.

Music lessons teach much more than music. In addition to music knowledge, I hope my students walk away from flute lessons with a sense of self-confidence, an inquisitive mind, and a joy for learning. My students and I work together to create fun and attainable goals while learning the importance of responsibility, punctuality, and self-motivation. Music lessons should be a safe and fun space for students to stretch their boundaries and be creative.

Music lessons aren't just for kids! Some of my most memorable students were adults. Don't be afraid to try something new!

Hello! I am thrilled to welcome you to Kaiser Flute Studios. Private music lessons are a lot of fun and I can't wait for us to get to know each other!

There are a few things you can expect of me as your music teacher. You can always expect me to respect you and your time. Respect is very important to me. I ask that you also respect me, my time, and my home.

You can expect me to come prepared for your lessons and to be attentive during your lessons. Your lesson time is our time to work together and I will never give you less than 100% of my focus. When we are in the studio, my attention is yours.

You can expect me to be non-judgmental and open-minded and to always listen to your questions and concerns. I want my studio to be a safe place for your to express. You can talk to me about anything, even if it doesn't relate to the flute. Y
our thoughts, feelings, and concerns are important to me..

From you, I only expect that you will come to your lessons prepared every week and ready to learn. I ask that you communicate with me freely. I want to know what is going on in your life outside of music lessons. Please never be afraid to ask a question or make mistakes. My studio is a non-judgmental place!

When my son Charles approached me asking to take flute lessons I was skeptical. Our family is not musical and I had no idea where to begin the search for a flute teacher! Fortunately, Katelyn was teaching a friend of Charlie at the time and allowed us to come in and observe the lesson before we jumped in to flute lessons. Her rapport with the students and the bond she works to build with them is amazing. Charlie learned so much more than the flute during his time with Katelyn--she encouraged his creativity in all aspects of his life and helped him build self-confidence during hard times. Charlie is no longer playing the flute but the things he learned with Katelyn continue to help him in his daily life.

Katelyn taught flute to my daughter Elizabeth through all of high school. She began in ninth grade and Katelyn helped her excel in her band program, at solo and ensemble festival, in all-state band and orchestra, and eventually in college auditions. Elizabeth is now a sophomore at Ohio State University where she majors in music education and we don't believe she could have done it without the gentle encouragement and support of Katelyn during her high school years! Music lessons are a great investment in your child's future and we would recommend them to anyone!

Everyone has creative and musical abilities within, and it is the responsibility of the private instructor to bring those out in each student. For some people, learning an instrument comes very easily, and for others it is more of a challenge. Everyone learns differently, which is why private musical instruction is so crucial, no matter what the age of the student. A private instructor can customize learning opportunities so that the student can learn at his or her own pace, allowing the instructor to focus on each student's individual interests and passions. A private instructor can also provide customizedl feedback so that the student can improve upon weaker areas of playing and build upon strengths.

No one is too old to learn to play an instrument! Adults learn quickly, and can have great progress in a relatively short amount of time.
