So nice and kind! My boyfriend was nervous about learning a new instrument, but after his first lesson, he was really excited about piano. Incredibly motivational! The perfect teacher!

My 9 year old granddaughter joined her school band to play flute with no prior experience in either endeavor. The band instructor has little time to help the children individually and so my granddaughter struggled on her own. We found Lily and after only 3 lessons my granddaughter's abiity to read music and play the flute has increased dramatically. Lily's teaching style is very matter of fact, patient and encouraging. My granddaughter looks forward to her lessons and to spending time with Lily. We feels Lily is a wonderful teacher and a real inspiration to our blossoming flutist.

I can't say enough great things about Sue! Under her guidance, it's been a pleasure getting back into playing my flute after a hiatus of over 25 years. Her knowledge of the instrument and expert instruction (as well as her infinite patience!) continue to provide me with the motivation I've needed to overcome some of the challenges I've faced after being away from my instrument for so long. Her teaching style is relaxed and flexible but firm; she knows just when I need to be challenged and just when to back away a bit. She's been a great fit for me, and I encourage other flute players of all levels to giver her a try!

Dr. Sue Sheya is truly an exceptional instructor. As a student who studied a little bit of music in Europe, it was difficult for me to adjust to the American solfege system (C, D, E scale) as I was used to the European solfege (Do, Re, Mi). However, Dr. Sheya was very flexible and adjusted all her lesson materials so that I could truly succeed in learning. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for a supportive, friendly, and enthusiastic teacher that can truly guide them in learning how to play the flute!

Hello! My name is Rachel, and I have been playing flute for 12 years. I am almost finished with my music education degree at the University of New Hampshire, where I was principal chair for the 2019-2020 season in their prestigious Wind Symphony. I believe that there is no one way to teach a student. I do not set expectations about what a student should or should not be able to do at any given moment; I instead meet every student where they are, figure out how best to help that student achieve what they want to achieve, and help them to grow as a player with guidance and positivity. I feel as if my strengths lie in teaching multiple concrete ways to improve technique, tone, and musicality, and each method is catered to each individual student. I teach with the methods of Marcel Moyse in mind, as he taught my previous teacher, Peggy Vagts.

I have been taking flute lessons with Rachel for about two years now, both up at the University of New Hampshire and on line now since March. Rachel is a patient, very knowledgeable, kind person who has been an incredible teacher! Her knowledge about the flute and music has opened up a whole new musical world for me. I would highly recommend her to new students, people returning to the flute after decades away (like me), and established players. She is the best.

"Jeremy is an extremely hard worker. I met him at SDSU and watched him improve immensely in a short amount of time. He made the top 3 of each chair placement audition at school placing him in the top ensembles . He's constantly learning and sharing his practice tips that have helped him get to his high level of performance. He knows how to help other students, explains concepts in simple ways to understand, and knows which books to use. He puts attention to detail and focuses on technique. He listens attentively and helps you train your ear. His expression is beautiful and his passion shows through his performance. I would recommend for a private lesson."
