About Samantha

"There is much more to songwriting than trying to squeeze a bunch of lyrics into a musical line. Songwriting is the perfect marriage between words, music, and storytelling. I work with students to identify what they're truly feeling and want to communicate through sound and language by helping them to develop their own unique musical voice." -Samantha Preis

American born singer-songwriter, storyteller, and world traveler, Samantha Preis, tells her story through her expressive songwriting and travel accounts. Soulful and introspective, she weaves her spell with captivating melodies and thought-provoking lyrics inspired by her unique travel experiences. Her music touches upon consciousness, morality, and the human condition, and her creative approach to songwriting and storytelling separates her from the average singer-songwriter. Samant

ha's haunting melodies are pulled from a place deep within and have found their way into the hearts of audiences at home and abroad.

Samantha first made waves after the release of her first album "Good News" in 2013, which received much international recognition. She has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East and studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, as well as the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Athens, Greece, from 2006 to 2010, and the University College London (UCL) from 2013 to 2014. Samantha is currently touring the UK and will embark on Devin Townsend's "Empath" tour November '19.

My first lesson with Ben was great. He got straight to what I was interested in learning and even helped me figure out the chords to a song I've been wanting to play. Can't wait to learn more :)

About Annarita

My name is Annarita and I am a violinist from Des Plaines, Illinois. I began playing at the age of seven, and by the time I was in high school I realized I wanted to make playing and teaching violin my career.

In 2013, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in music from Loyola University Chicago. During my college career I had the opportunity to spend a semester in Vienna, Austria to expand my knowledge of the classical music world.

In 2010, I began playing with the Fox Valley Orchestra - an ensemble of which I am still a part and consider my second home. I also perform regularly with the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Stargate Productions, as well as the string orchestra at Northeastern Illinois University. In 2015 I had the opportunity to perform with Rod Stewart...one of my favorite memories!

Besides my passion for perf

orming, I also very much love teaching. I worked with The People's Music School and with the Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra Project in Chicago as a violin teacher and ensemble coach. I also teach a wide range of private students.

*** Lesson Details ***
1. I set goals with my students and give them the tools they need in order to reach them.
-I focus a lot on note reading, music theory, practice
techniques, and bodily awareness to ensure each student
understands every aspect of their instrument and music
2. I explain how the assigned studies will help improve students' overall ability to play the violin
-I'm not a "spoon-feeder" - I teach my students how to
teach themselves and think independently!
3. I keep my lessons at an appropriate difficulty for each student.
4. Most importantly, I teach students how to practice efficiently and with patience. Improvement does not happen overnight; but with a little focus and patience, it will come a lot sooner than you think!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must have an instrument, music stand, assigned music, and a metronome if necessary.

I've been taking lessons from Adam for about 3 years now - He is an amazing teacher! I took lessons before when I was younger but I quickly lost interest. I decided to get back into it later in life (I'm 35 now), but I still struggled to find the right teacher. One was too serious and the other was too relaxed and I felt like I wasn't actually making any progress. With Adam I got the best of both worlds! I was getting better at the guitar, and at the same time I was enjoying myself throughout the whole process. I'm still taking lessons with Adam and I would recommend that you do the same!

I took jazz guitar for two years from Adam. He’s a great teacher and excellent musician. As a former “cowboy chords” guitarist, I jumped from 5 to about 15 chords in a few weeks. Adam is patient and lots of fun. I still catch some of his gigs when I’m back in NYC.

About Alysha

I am a passionate educator, no matter what subject I happen to find myself teaching. There is nothing quite so rewarding as the dawning comprehension of a new skill on a child's face, or their look of triumph after a great accomplishment.

As a teacher, i prefer not to be overly demanding of my students, and instead seek to tailor lessons to their individual interests and tastes. If you enjoy the music, you will want to play, and thus practice more! I prefer to focus on teaching the underlying skills and techniques that will make students successful - practice strategies, sight-reading, and problem solving skills.

About Ai

I started my teaching career when I was a college student. In Japan, I taught both English and Japanese to middle and high school students at a private academy. I have also taught Japanese to adults especially the spouses stationed in Japan and also at community college. I have the Master of Education in TESL; therefore, I’ve taught English more vigorously, but know what it takes to be successful at second language acquisition. I really find it rewarding to teach those who are interested in Japanese language and culture.

I like to get to know your learning styles and what motivates you. I will cater to your needs and make your own lesson plan just for you.

I love teaching and discovering my own culture through the eyes of the students. I love to meet new people and just love the people who want to learn a foreign language. It gives y

ou an opportunity to widen your view of the world!

I’ve also played the piano since I was 3 years old and have the Yamaha certification; therefore, I teach piano too. I also love to play!!

About Jake

Hey there! My name is Jake, and I'm a lifetime musician. I began playing guitar and taking lessons 19 years ago (at age 8), and writing songs at 5!... my grandma recalls asking me to play "number 5" on the piano, and I'd do as I was asked, right from memory. Guitar, songwriting, and singing have long been my deepest passions, and having the opportunity to help others explore their own creative abilities has always made me feel whole. My style as an artist is especially in line with the Jason Mrazs, Colbie Cailats, and Ed Sheerans of the world, while as a writer I lean towards the styles of Scott Harris and Geoff Warburton (Shawn Mendes). Looking forward to working with creatives and musicians of all types!

"Kristina is wonderful. She is warm and I felt very comfortable with her teaching space and gratified at the way she designed a lesson based on where I'm
at and my goals. She really listened to me and for the first time (I've had a number of teachers) I was encouraged that she took the time and made the effort to provide me structure for practice which I very much want and, at the same time, relieved that she is open to modifying based on my ability, interest and feedback She took time with patience and grace to guide me through unfamiliar territory and was very clear in her explanations and demonstrations of everything. I'm delighted."

She offers a very relaxed, soothing atmosphere that gives me the comfort that I need to be able to work on my goals. "I've just picked up flute after (literally) 50 years and been taking lessons with Thomas for several months. Lessons are enjoyable, and Thomas has taken g

He also gives me guidance on how to practice, which was one of my key goals for taking lessons. I was concerned about whether I could find someone who understood how to teach adults - and am very pleased that I succeeded!"

2 Questions Every Songwriter Should Be Able to Answer

By Suzy S.

Not sure where to start when it comes to writing songs? Check out these songwriting tips from Austin, TX teacher Gfire M...   I started writing songs fairly early on at age 11, but I never thought about songwriting technique until later, when I studied with teachers from Berklee College, and in Los Angeles and Nashville. I now have songs that have been played on more than 200 radio and television programs around the world, including UnderCurrents, a syndicated program that airs on more t …
