A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem K is a performer, composer, and educator, who is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.
Growing up in the northwest with its vibrant music scene allowed Kareem the opportunity to study with, listen to and perform with world class jazz artists residing in the area. Artists such as Tracy Knoop, Jay Thomas, Don Lanphere, Bill Ramsay, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester and many others had a large impact on Kareem early in his musical education. This direction and guidance continues to inspire and lead Kareem as he continues his lifelong passion undertaking a career as a professional musician.
Today, as a performing artist he spends most of his time leading his group for which he composes and arranges most of the music. The band is constantly on the move as a sought af
ter performing group and spends most of its time performing in and around the Pacific Northwest. When not leading his own group Kareem can be seen and heard performing as a sideman with many other top notch musical acts and projects, most notably The Paperboys from Vancouver BC.
As an educator Kareem divides his time teaching jazz improvisation as an artist in residence at The Tacoma School of the Arts, directing the award winning student jazz ensemble at Pierce College, conducting masterclasses and workshops at schools around the Puget Sound area, and maintaining a full load of private students. Along with his teaching duties Kareem is the director or The Tacoma Jazz Association, serves on the Tacoma Arts Commission, and is a D'Addario Woodwinds performing artist.
Kareem holds a Bachelors Degree of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington which he attended after receiving a full scholarship.
Throughout his years of teaching Kareem has worked with students of all ages and abilities, from beginners just getting started, to advanced players who simply want new ideas and direction.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons are relaxed and are focused on what you would like to learn.
I usually begin with assessing where students are in their abilities and then come up with a lesson plan based on what they already know and what they would like to accomplish. They can be geared towards a 5 year old with no musical training whatsoever, or to an advanced musician who wants to further develop their skills.
Topics that I cover in lessons throughout a typical day of teaching include: Instrument technique, sight reading skills ( note and rhythm recognition ), memorization skills, music theory, ear training, improvising, and composing.
After 3 to 6 months of lessons and regular practice a beginning student should have a good command of their instrument and a strong foundation of sight reading. At this point we normally will also have started some music theory as well. For students wanting to focus on jazz we will have already begun improvising as well.
*** Studio Equipment *** 5x10 room w/ piano and seating for parents
*** Specialties *** I focus on the basics of learning to read music and basic technique on the instruments that I teach. From there I proceed with theory, ear training, improvising, composition etc. It all depends on what the students want to learn. I am comfortable teaching classical music as well as jazz, rock, composition, and improvisation.
Kareem is superb. Under his tutelage I am certain I will advance quickly from my current skill set. I'm more convinced than ever that I can become a real musician. His assignments require the commitment that I am willing to invest. I hope I will live up to his expectations.

My granddaughter is 6 years old and this is her first professional piano teacher. Kareem is ensuring that she has the basics down before she continues. She enjoys the lessons, and is excited when lesson day comes.

My daughter absolutely loves Mr. K!! He is very patient and takes his time to always answer ANY questions she has. She loves taking piano due to him being so awesome!! If you are looking for a great teacher for your little one there is no need to look any further!!
Taught 41 years as a band director Principal Trumpet with Beloit/Janesville Symphony
I like to teach in a style that is functional and interesting. Students will be doing a variety of activities at each lesson. The focus will be determined by their needs.
As students become more proficient in music their enjoyment of musical activities will increase. The success of completing various levels of musical achievement will carry over to other lifetime skills.
*** Lesson Details *** I will work with each student depending on their individual needs. We will strive to produce steady improvement in player proficiency.
*** Travel Equipment *** Student should have a music stand and instrument
*** Specialties *** I like to teach based on the individual. I have taught group and private lessons. The materials I use are varied, with an emphas
is on scales, theory, and also some duet playing. I also like to incorporate some music history into each lesson. I feel that each student needs to work from known to the new areas. I often use supplementary materials (solos or small ensembles) to reinforce my teaching.
Kay is awesome. My daughter loved her. She is very patience and kept Victoria engaged.

Kay is very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. She is very encouraging and never makes me feel dumb when I hit a sour note. (As a beginning beginner, that happens a lot!) I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time!
My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.
I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.
*** Lesson Details *** My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:
1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.
2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.
3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.
*** Equipment *** Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.
*** Specialties *** Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.
My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.
Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).
My daughter is loving her cello lessons with Ray even more than she expected. She feels she is really improving.
March 28, 2014
My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.
I have been playing various woodwind instruments for almost my entire life. I focus on tone, intonation (staying in tune), and the confidence needed to be a strong melodic player. I teach all of the various saxes including soprano, alto, tenor, and bari.
In addition to being a Berklee College of Music Graduate, I have a Masters in Music Education, and currently completing my Doctorate in Music Education from Boston University, I have been playing for over 30 years.
Lessons are written and tailored to you. I use music, printouts, and instructional material to make sure you progress as you should.
I have spots available every day of the week, so I'm confident that we can find something that works for both of us.
I know that learning to play any style of music whether it be Jazz, Blues, Soul, Motown, Funk, or Rock is a challenge, but with help from an experienced educator, your instrument becomes a rewarding lifelong enjoyment.
Please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to speak with you regarding any questions you may have.
It's so rewarding to meet a teacher on the same page with me. Very personable, knowledgable and sets direction/goals clearly.

I enjoy my song writing coach Frankie. His knowledge and patience was well appreciated.

Frankie tailors each music lesson to my needs and interests, while sharing his extensive knowlege of music, theory, and playing technique. I have enjoyed each lesson over past 8 years, as he has encouraged me to grow and develop my own knowledge and skill. An excellent instructor!
I just recieved my Masters in Music with a concentration in Saxophone Performance in May 2018 and have been playing saxophone for almost 10 years. I can assist to teach you the proper pedagogical techniques or refine them as well. Can also teach how to properly approach and execute pieces!
Hello! My name is Alexia and I have been frequently teaching students at middle, high, and even private schools in the area. Just let me know your goals that you want to reach and I will do everything I can to assist you there!
I specialize in Jazz Saxophone, but also am very fluent and familiar with the classical world as well. One huge plus that my saxophone students have is that I can accompany them on piano. This makes lessons in jazz improvisation much more effective. I focus on fundamental skills such as sight reading, technique, jazz and classical theory, improvisation and composition. I also make recordings for my students on request. I have worked with multiple wind ensembles and jazz bands in the past, and can help polish up ensemble music.

We love joey!!! He's a great teacher because he teaches the way that is right for the student. He comes to our house twice a week to teach our 5-year-old son, who wasn't particularly interested in learning the songs from the book, scales, etc, so Joey changed it up to make it fun for him by focusing on making up songs and improvising (while still sneaking in some of the technical stuff). Our son looks forward to his lessons so much! Joey is obviously a masterful pianist and could teach at any skill level.

Joey is a gifted musician and even more gifted teacher. My 14 year old has been taking piano lessons with Joey for about eighteen months now. We lived in San Diego for a year and my son started in person with him for close to ten months. Joey's teaching style and connection with my son was so effective that we decided to continue lessons via Skype. My son is a highly gifted kid for whom lots of learning comes easily. Not so with music, but he is inspired and motivated by Joey. Joey's ability to meet the learner where they are and push them beyond their normal comfort zone is impressive. I am very, very glad that we found him. Joey's teaching style is engaging and encouraging while holding the learner accountable to practice, development, and growth. I wholeheartedly recommend him for both in person and online lessons.

Joey has been teaching piano to our now 8 and 11 yo boys for more than a year. Although my kids aren't musical per say and don't tend to practice during the week, thanks to Joey their piano skills are impressive! Without ignoring the theory, Joey was able to adapt his teaching style to their personalities and has taught them to play their favorite songs. My younger son was so excited to to learn Fall out Boy's "Centuries" he would run to the piano to practice! Both boys are clearly proud of their accomplishments and love to show them off to their friends. Thank you Joey!

I know it's too early to write a review after the first lesson. However, I was surprised by the wonderful way Sergio handled the time and the introduction for such a hard instrument like the alto sax.
My son Moneer is so excited to continue learning how to play alto sax with Sergio. In short Sergio is a very talented music instructor!

Definitely knows his stuff and does his research! Sergio is a guy who goes over and above to fufill the highest expectations. Highly recommend.
Passionate about music, I hold a Master in Jazz studies in Saxophone from the Music Conservatory of Brussels. I also became a certified teacher (after followed a one year-long pedagogical training) at the same University.
I am an active musician in various bands, and perform regularly in Europe and North America. Follow LaurentBarbierMusic on Facebook! :-)
My lessons are structured yet extremely personalized.
I will adapt to whatever YOU want to learn, while giving weight to basic concepts: the sound, intonation, groove, harmony, … until you’ll reach independence and have the confidence needed to learn by yourself.
In order to give long-distance support and thanks to the recent technological development, I give most of my classes by Skype.
I believe that regularity is a key to success in learning a musical instrument, and I found the extra-flexibility of the online classes very profitable for that purpose. Being able to send the ...

Learning and teaching music is one of the most difficult situations, when it has to do with pedagogy and tuition. Truth is that Laurent Barbier, handles easily performing and teaching. I am extremely satisfied from his teaching, via Skype sessions, and i think his a quintessential teacher for my needs and suits very much to my character and mood. He's so patient to check a student's needs, and he's always willing to pass knowledge with generosity! He's guidance and my practicing of course, made a better player!
"Lonze was great… Very attentive to what I wanted to learn and patient with things I didn’t understand"
"my first language is spanish, I tough that was going to make it more dificult for me to learn. I can now tell you how wrong I was. Matt took me from not k

"I took lessons with Mrs.Bemus from 2008-2010. I also had her as my elementary band teacher. Before she started working with me, I had no experience with t
he saxophone. Working with her really helped me not only musically, but also confidence wise. Kim Bemus is not only super encouraging but will work with you at whatever speed you need to go in order to get better. If it wasn’t for her mentoring and patience, I would’ve never continued playing the saxophone or became the musician I am today. If I had to suggest someone to do tutoring with on saxophone - or any instrument, I should say - I would suggest her in a heartbeat."
"Jason is an excellent teacher. He is very professional and easy to work with."

Many people say that it’s easy to make a sound on the saxophone, but harder to make a good sound (at least, at first).
