I returned to saxophone after not playing for years, and at the recommendation of a local player took lessons with Mike. Mike's a great player, but more importantly, he's a great teacher. He's made a study of teaching wind instruments and can really help identify technical issues. Working with Mike on improvising and jazz phrasing and articulation has been really fun and productive for me, and has improved my musicianship in other areas (I'm mostly and upright bassist). I haven't had a sax lesson for a little while, but I recently got a clarinet and I'm back with Mike. The lessons are, as always, rewarding and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Ava is enjoying her clarinet instruction!

What an AMAZING teacher! Michael always has a positive attitude and connects well with people. He is definitely the highlight of my son’s week (age 10). Michael is talented, knowledgeable and kind. He can connect with all age groups. His studio is also an energetic and delightful place to be. He is a true gem and talented musician. My son says, “He is such a fun guy and great teacher!” He inspires my son.

I have been teaching saxophone for nearly thirty years, and offer a different approach to the instrument. While building strong technique and tone in your band and solo music, we will explore how the saxophone is used in music from around the world, including traditions that pre-date the saxophone itself by many centuries! While learning the basics of music theory, I also encourage playing by ear, and unleashing curiosity and creativity.

Oregon native Aage (pronounced like Owen without N) has been teaching woodwinds to students of all ages for thirty years. He has performed throughout the US and Denmark, as well as Iceland (International Viola Congress) and Holland (World Bass Clarinet Conference). He taught for many years at The C

A great first lesson. Aage was able to identify my level and chart a course for lessons quickly, drawing on lots of resources and knowledge. I’m just starting clarinet with plenty of saxophone experience, and I think Aage is the right person to guide me.

Very personable, yet business like. An extremely encouraging teacher which would be important for younger students.

My objective as a teacher is to ensure I am positioned to motivate students to develop their careers in music and also in critical thinking — to ensure students establish a connection with their audiences through live performances and meet the requirements of professional musicians in the current musical climate.

My approach to private lessons builds from two principles: creative thinking and application. To that end, I explicitly incorporate questions for the students in my lesson plan. I encourage students to ask questions and help them to solve the problems themselves.

About kenny

I believe in private lessons and I’ve been teaching since 2004 and this is what I learned from my previous students. To learn effectively and efficiently, you have to practice and find your way to get better every practice session. I will teach you how to become an artist, saxophonist, musician, an
