The saxophone family is full of potential for a wide array of colors and textures and can be played in a variety of styles: classical, jazz, funk, Afrobeat, rock, and more. I've played saxophone for 15 years, and I teach my students through exercises catered to their musical passions. In addition to the basic technical elements of playing, I focus on listening across the musical spectrum. I encourage the use of long tones and air support to improve tone, flexibility, and all repertoire.

From beginners to advanced students looking to ace their college auditions, I can prepare you to be the best saxophonist you can be. I have a number of all state saxophonists under my belt and have consistently coached students to earn superiors at state music festivals.

About Stephen
I am a classically trained saxophonist, bass vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. I have experience arranging music of all styles for bands, orchestra, percussion ensembles, and a cappella groups. I was the saxophonist for The High Lifes, a ska-punk band out of Orlando, FL; played tenor and baritone saxophone in my university's wind ensemble, saxophone quartet, jazz band, and orchestra; have founded and led four a cappella groups at the collegiate and semi-professional levels; and am a bass section leader in the New York City Bar Choir. I have taught public school band, chorus, orchestra, piano, and music technology classes and was an elementary school music teacher in Orlando, FL before moving to New York in 2012.

My private saxophone students have gone on to study at the college level, have been members of the Florida All-State band, a
nd earned Superior ratings at state music festivals. I have also taught private flute, clarinet, and bassoon lessons.

In addition to music performance classes, I have experiencing teaching music theory and arranging. If you would like to learn about the magic behind music, I'm your guy!

If you're interested in ensemble lessons, we can negotiate group package discounts. I've found that music is best when shared and learning to perform quality musical literature with other, like-minded musicians is one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

Beginners: The basics of embouchure, technical skills, proper breathing techniques, ability to read music.
Intermediate: Playing intermediate level solo pieces, refining technique, extending range, learning how to play music by ear and performing in various styles, from classical to jazz.

About Jorge
I have over 10 years of experience on the Clarinet and other reed instruments. I am a senior undergraduate BA Music Education major at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and have studied classical clarinet as well as saxophone under various professors at the college.

I also have experience in teaching NYSSMA solos, intermediate/advanced techniques on the saxophone and clarinet, and have run and directed my own orchestra and jazz band during my time in college.

With training at high-level schools and over a decade of diverse professional experience, I'm well-suited to teach saxophone in any style. Whether you need help with school ensemble music, want to learn your favorite melodies, or even want to write your own music, I can offer experienced and relaxed guidance towards your goals!

About Tyler
I'm a multi-instrumentalist, teacher, composer, arranger, freshly transplanted to Brooklyn after seven great years in Boston, Massachusetts. My professional experience on saxophone, keyboards, clarinet, flute, and bass in many different musical styles has offered me a wide-ranging palate to teach from. For the past five years, I've worked for multiple organizations and agencies as a private lessons instructor, averaging 15-20 students at any given time and maxing out at over 30! My approach to lessons is laid back, yet goal-oriented. My main goals are to equip my students musical and instrumental fundamentals, help them discover their particular passions within music and work towards related goals, and to foster an environment rooted in fun and mutual respect.

Tyler was the piano teacher for our two daughters for almost 5 years. They were piano beginners aged 4 and 6 when we started. My daughters are more on the shy side, and Tyler ended up being the perfect teacher for them. He is gentle and patient but at the same time got them excited about learning the instrument and playing music of different genres. My daughters enjoyed the lessons very much and they were sad to see Tyler leave for New York. I can highly recommend Tyler as a teacher especially for shy beginners like my daughters were.

I start with assessing the students' capabilities, after which I begin to develop the following areas: Development of their sound; Instrument Technique; Jazz Improvisation and Jazz Language; Theory and Jazz Harmony; Study and Development of Students' Own Repertoire. Depending on the level of the students and their needs, I push certain areas more or less. The key to becoming a successful student is to practice, to develop a good technique, but also to listen to a lot of music to develop the talent for music. Therefore I encourage my students to listen to a lot of records to understand the right sound.

About My Lesson Style ...I encourage the students to listen to the music, and above all, I encourage them to enjoy it, while teaching the discipline. The study will not be a burden if the student has fun while playing. One of my goals is that, at the end of the lesson, the students go home with the desire to play again and again. I also think that learning, and preparing oneself to play

About Francesco
I Discovered at the age of 16, discovered my passion for the saxophone, and I started my training at a small music school in Bologna.
Subsequently, I studied with Piero Odorici and attended jazz seminars at "Siena Jazz" and "Jazz Urbino". The seminars are a great opportunity to play in a big band scenario, with musicians such as Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Marco Tamburini, Roberto Rossi, Eddie Henderson, and George Garzone.

I then continue my studies at the Verona Conservatory with Barry Harris, at the American School of Modern Music in Paris with Johnny Griffin and Charles Lloyd, at the "GB Martini" Music Conservatory in Bologna with Barend Middelhoff and Tomaso Lama, as well as with Tom Kirkpatrick and Bob Franceschini.

Later I moved to The Hague, in the Netherlands, where I attended the Royal Conservatory (Koninklijk Conservatori
um Den Haag) learning from musicians like Toon Roos, Eric Gieben, Erik Ineke, Rolf Delfos, Gwilym Simcock, Dave Glasser, Dave Libman, and Joshua Redman.
Professionally, I collaborated with actor Edoardo Siravo in some theater projects for prose, and with Lucio Caliendo in the soundtrack of the film "Dreaming by Number", produced for the Dutch television and nominated for the International Documentary Filmfestival in Amsterdam (IDFA) ). In the last 10 years, he has collaborated as lead and sideman with several Italian musicians like Andrea Burani, Alessandro Altarocca, Lucio Caliendo, Flavio Davanzo, Enrico Lazzarini, Francesca Tandoi, Glauco Zuppiroli, Bruno Cesselli, Jacopo Zanette, Katja Hyunjung, Nico Menci, and Giani Lincan.

I have 14+ years of experience playing the Saxophone. I have played in all types of groups with people from different parts of the world. During the lessons my emphasis is all the fundamentals such as tone, technique, intonation, feel, etc. But, what I believe is unique about my lessons is my emphasis on improvisation, ear training, and writing. My strong background in Jazz has helped me to be able to play all different types of music from Afro Cuban to Rock, R&B, classical, Funk, African and many more styles. Listening is a huge part of what I emphasize to my students, especially listening to all styles of music. I also have a huge background in writing for different styles/ensembles in music. I have my students write music they are studying in order to understand the role of the saxophone in relation to other instruments in the band.

About Andrew
I am a saxophonist but also play the clarinet, flute, piano, EWI, and compose/arrange all different types of music. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Jazz Composition/Performance.

As of recently I have recorded my debut album "The Life of an Aquarius" at the renown recording studio The Carriage House in Stamford CT with 14 other professional musicians. I am also playing around NYC with my own group at venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

I have also background teaching at a music program called Project Music to kids who could not afford private lessons, and were given the opportunity to play music and learn from professional musicians.

I am open to the students needs, and want my students to feel that they can express themselves in front of me on what they are looking to achieve by studying with me. Consistent practice an
d performing is what has lead me to my current musical success.

At Berklee I studied with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world such as Bill Pierce, George Garzone, Ed Tomassi, Darren Barrett, Greg Hopkins, and many more. They all taught me about the importance of constant practice and learning and growing at your craft.

Overall, I have had a lot of musical experiences and want to pass them on to my students so they can experience the joy of performing in any musical setting.

Students who study the saxophone with me will learn more than just technique. I have been teaching for over 5 years, and my adaptable lesson plans are suitable for people of any age who want to become great saxophonists. My saxophone lessons revolve around both learning how to play the instrument, and learning the instrument itself. Fundamentals are important of course, but what I offer is a journey into the full potential of the saxophone. As an accomplished player in the oeuvres of not only jazz and funk, but also symphonic and experimental music, I strive to teach my students how the saxophone can be best utilized as a tool for expression. If you want to learn to play the saxophone well, and to play it with your soul, then look no further.

About Henry
I am a saxophonist and music producer currently residing in Queens, New York. I have over 15 years of experience playing the saxophone, and I have played with many groups and musicians in that time.

My saxophone students can expect an introductory lesson where I get a sense of where they are at with the instrument, followed by a comprehensive lesson plan for weekly or bi-weekly lessons. I evaluate progress every two months and specialize in lesson plans that fast track students to learning technique, before diving in to the intricacies of saxophone playing and expression.

Whether you want to learn to play jazz, classical, or anything else, my comprehensive lesson plans tailored to students will help you get a grasp on the fundamentals and potentials of the saxophone. I have a very large library of etude books, all of which I have thor
oughly worked through. This helps me select the perfect books to work through with my students.

I myself have worked with great saxophonists such as Bobby Selvaggio, Michael Cox, and Jeff Coffin, as well as many other great jazz and funk players. The saxophone is something I take very seriously, and I take great strides to tailor my lessons to the goals and interests of my students.
