My son is in 10th grade and has been studying Saxophone with Ian for almost 4 years. Ian is great on teaching, nice to student, always responsive to questions. Highly recommended.

Me and my 12-year-old son started saxophone two years ago together. Ian had a great guide to us who had never played the instrument. My growth is slow due to age issues, (of course satisfied) but my son's growth was great. My son now has a great deal of confidence as a jazz player, and he was able to work on other things positively too. We met Ian then became more into music and jazz. He is patient and will tell you until we can do. Ian is mainly jazz, but he is also very familiar with brass band and classical saxophone too. He is a working musician who do live performance, gig, and compose in various places. He loves music from the heart, his solo is so beatuiful. Ian's lessons has changed our life. We really grateful for giving us his time.

Saxophone:
A family of woodwind instruments, saxophones are usually made of brass and played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to that of the clarinet. Like the clarinet, saxophones have holes in the instrument which the player closes using a system of key mechanisms. When the player presses a key, this typically causes a pad to close over a hole. There is soprano, alto, tenor, bass and baritone saxophones. The great thing about learning saxophone is it is almost the same fingers as flute and clarinet! We will start with the basics of learning finger placement, breath control, notes, reading, rhythms, songs, theory and improvising.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Why do you want to play saxophone? Are you a beginner and want to learn it for school? Looking for a new hobby? Want to get into the state band? Or maybe you're looking for something more serious? Whatever your goal may be, I am here to help :)

I have a very detailed curriculum that my students go through. I pick studies that will help push you to being a better player. These include both jazz and classical saxophone. I also like having my students pick a piece they want to work on at the same time!

I am a beginner saxophone player and Stephen's lesson has been really good for me. He is able to pace his lessons based on my needs and I really like how he assigns practice material to work on before our next lesson. We always start off each lesson with reviewing the practice material and he always gives me detailed feedback and is really patient even if I was not able to master the practice material. He also lets me bring songs I want to learn and guides me through it. I look forward to our lessons every week. I would recommend Stephen to anyone who is looking to get better at playing saxophone.

This was my first piano lesson in 50 years. It was everything I hoped it would be... intellectual, fun, relaxed... and it filled me with hope that I could finally make something out of a musical instrument I left in the dust so many years ago. Jimi is wonderful to talk with and work with. This was beyond my expectations.

My son has been studying with Mr Thomas for 5 years! He is a very talented musician/teacher and I’ve seen such progress in my sons playing over the years. He has helped him write his own pieces and prepped him for his orchestra performances. “Mr. Thomas is really fun to play music with and you learn a lot. He even helped me with transcribing a video game soundtrack that I loved into my recital piece”! We highly recommend Mr. Thomas!
Eunice
My son took clarinet lessons in-person and then transitioned to online when COVID happened. He tried piano and violin before but clarinet is the first instrument that Micah was super excited about. He learned and improved so much with the one on one instruction with Thomas. He says clarinet is his passion now and looks forward to every lesson. I recommend Thomas to teach your child. He is patient, kind and can find ways to motivate kids to play at their best.

As a group Clarinet and Flute teacher with Youth Orchestra of St. Luke's, Thomas Giles created an engaging and inspiring music learning curriculum for his students. At each recital all of his students were able to introduce themselves, the piece they have learned, and a bit of history or commentary to go along. Throughout online learning Dr. Giles continued a supportive and creative environment, even through zoom, where each of his students composed and performed their own piece. If you are looking for your student to come away from lessons with a high level of ability and confidence on their instrument look no further than Dr. Giles, they will have the added bonus of learning important skills such as public speaking and presenting. They may even take away some composition and arranging skills!

"Another fantastic lesson with Josh. He noted that my son tends to play his notes in a more "jazz" style which is great because I was hoping he would join jazz band in middle school! He is always positive and provides very constructive feedback to my 11 year old son to help him improve his playing. We are very pleased! (and my son is very comfortable with his teaching style... Love his tips and suggestions and his help with improving on songs he is playing for school.)"
