The students will find an environment that will be geared towards their individual goals and desires as much as possible.
Self-discovery and discovery of what one might want to achieve is part of this journey.
Encouragement, guidance and constructive help, not criticism, are the tools of learning
For the beginning student, out of necessity, there is a focus on the physical aspects of mastering the instrument, with as much inclusion of musical creativity as possible at any given stage of the development.
Further on, music for flute will be explored as well as technical development (tone-production, finger technique, posture, body-feel, etc).
Students music-style preferences will be incorporated as much as is possible at any given stage of development

*** Studio Equipment ***
music stand(s) in a clean and sound-proof professional teaching cubicle

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any equipment

*** Specialties ***
Any style of music the student is interested in will be incorporated into the lessons, including classical, jazz and popular music.
Strong emphasis is placed on the physical aspects of playing the instrument, especially for the beginner: handling of the instrument, body posture and body feeling, tone production, rhythm and finger technique.
Much of the technical study is based on works by Marcel Moyse, Louis Moyse and Joachim Andersen, in short: the French school of flute-playing

It was an honor and a pleasure working with Gwen. Due to personal circumstances, I had to stop working with her, but I highly recommend her as an instructor. She's very knowledgeable, accommodating, and made me feel comfortable. You'll find yourself in good hands with her.

I teach all ranges and ages of students, to develop technique, sound, proper hand position, articulation, and musicality. It is my goal to help every student to ultimately find their own voice with their instrument.

For my Middle School and High School students, I find preparing them to audition for Southern California Honors Band (and potentially All-State Band) to be very rewarding and a great goal. Even if they choose not to audition or don't get in, great strides are made in their playing.

About Benjamin
I am a saxophonist and clarinetist and have been teaching for over 12 years. I am currently the saxophone professor at California State University, Northridge, I also maintain a studio of private saxophone and clarinet students throughout Los Angeles County, and am the saxophone and clarinet instructor at HYPERIUMconservatory in Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes.

I specialize in everything from beginners in elementary or middle school through high school students, college audition preparation, and also teach undergraduate and graduate students.

I previously held teaching positions at the University of Southern California, Sinai Akiba Academy, and Young Musicians Foundation.

Lessons combine work on sound production, technical work, along with fun music (such as movie music) as well as repertoire and exercises to develop students musical skills. As a teacher I have worked with both 6 year-old and adult beginners, college music majors and graduate students, always tailoring how I teach for each student.

It is my goal that each student is able to play at least one simple tune by the end of the first lesson. Often, they can do much more!

We'll start at your level and expand from there! Styles I've performed in

I am a beginning Tenor Sax student and a senior citizen. I have played other instruments years ago, but never a woodwind instrument. Ian has been a marvelous instructor for me. Although I had never picked up a sax until December 2014, he already has taught me how to play several simple tunes and a number of scales. His patience and sensitivity to the appropriate pace is impecable. He also keeps me informed of other activities - concerts, recordings, community events to reinforce my interest. I would recommend Ian as a music teacher to anyone without reservation or hesitation.

I’m an adult beginner student and have been taking lessons for approximately one year. Ian’s approach and method have really motivated me. I’m playing music that I enjoy, while improving my basic skills. He is very patient and is an excellent instructor and outstanding musician. I would definitely recommend anyone who is serious about learning to play woodwind instruments. I’m looking forward to my next year working with Ian.

I've been playing woodwinds for over 10 years. Embouchure, breathing, fingering, sight-reading, and tone quality are some of the topics I cover.

About Tia
Tia graduated from Dordt College in 2014 with a BA in Music Performance and Pedagogy. An avid vocalist and single-reed woodwind player, she has been studying music for over 15 years with a variety of teachers, and has experience in the Jazz, Musical Theatre, Praise, and Classical styles. I figure out exactly where you are in your technique and knowledge of music and of the instrument. Then, I start teaching from there! For me, the goal of lessons should be the goal of the student, and I do my best to honor that!

I also encourage my advanced Jr. High and High School students to audition for various honor groups throughout California such as SCSBOA, CBDA, etc. With my background in these groups, I can effectively help my students prepare for the best audition they can do.

About Eric
Hi! I'm Eric, a Saxophonist, Composer, Singer, and Teacher that was born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, writing music for as long as I can remember, and singing since I was in elementary school. I play for a variety of groups in Los Angeles, and sometimes perform in L.A. and surrounding areas at venues such as the LightHouse, Saint Rocke, Avalon, and the Baked Potato.

I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. I give students assignments to work on, not only so they don't forget what we talk about, but also so they can also expand upon the concepts given in lessons, (which familiarizes them more with the information). I look forward to helping you unlock your potential!

I'm passionate about helping students, both professional and recreational, overcome their musical hurdles.

I particularly enjoy working with musicians who have studied scales and chords but are frustrated in their efforts to use them to make great music.

Other areas of focus:
• Improvising over chord changes
• Internalizing advanced harmony
• Fluency in the many idioms of jazz, funk & blues
• Phrasing
• Saxophone technique
• Efficient practicing for a busy lifestyle

The most important part of lessons is to have fun! I gear my lessons towards the interests of my students, so they can learn to play the saxophone by learning songs they want to work on. If a student of mine is unsure about what direction to go in, no problem! I have lots of ideas for directions we can go in- jazz, funk, pop, r&b, reading music, learning how to improvise, learning to play by ear, etc.

About Rachel
I'm a trained multi-instrumentalist and received my bachelor's degree in music at University of Michigan's music school. All the instruments I play make me a better player and teacher- saxophone, guitar, singing, and clarinet. I've been playing music for 15 years and teaching for 8 years. Music is such a great creative outlet, so it's important for lessons to be not only focused on the craft and routine, but fun, engaging, and interesting! I like to gear lessons towards my student's interests, so we can learn songs that are fun for the student. If they're not sure what direction they're interested in, no problem! There's many cool musical directions we can go in- jazz, classical, pop, r&b, musical theater, etc. We'll work together to make our lessons the best learning environment for you!

Learn how to play saxophone and read music; also, develop your musical "inner ear" and understanding of music theory.

About Daniel
Hello! I am a saxophonist, jazz musician, woodwind player, and music educator. I have a degree in Jazz Performance from William Paterson University, where I studied with Mulgrew Miller, Harold Mabern, Vincent Herring, Rich Perry, Bill Mobley, and many more of New York/New Jersey's finest musicians. I have experience playing professionally in jazz ensembles (as both a sideman and leader), pit orchestras, and wedding/cover bands.

My teaching career began informally while I was in high school, showing friends the basics of what I knew at the time on different instruments. I would also give some lessons to family friends, usually the younger siblings who were just starting out in 5th or 6th grade band. After I graduated from college in 2016, I began teaching professionally at various music studios throughout the North Jersey area, and thr
ough online services like this one. I also have experience in teaching after-school music programs in a classroom setting with elementary schoolers (K- 3rd grade).
