I believe that the most important aspect of learning is a positive and comfortable environment that encourages and facilitates growth! My studio ranges from ages 9 to adult and from beginner to advanced.

Through my own studies I have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies, and have developed my own method to help my students progress quickly and efficiently.

Every lesson will begin with a discussion about the students practicing so that we can celebrate growth and work together through challenges.

Students will be asked to study technical and tone exercises as well as repertoire that will help them progress in the necessary areas. I will help my students choose pieces that are appropriate and enjoyable.

If a student would like to study a popular song then I will gladly write my own arrangement for them. We can also learn to play by ear and improvise.

For my online students I will record solos, duets, and piano parts to pieces that we cannot play ...

Jenny is an Ohio based flutist with over 20 years’ experience teaching flute and piccolo. She has 10 years’ experience at the collegiate level. She enjoys teaching at all levels, from beginner through advanced, and has taught a wide range of ages from 8 to 70. From introducing students to the flute and teaching them their first songs as a beginner, to preparing them for auditions, recitals, honor bands, and much more as an advanced player, I love helping students enjoy the process of learning an instrument and being able to see them grow and achieve their goals. I love that each student brings unique strengths to each lesson and I tailor the lesson to the student’s needs and learning styles.

About Jenny

I have over 20 years’ experience teaching flute and piccolo and currently teach at two local colleges. I enjoy teaching at all levels, from beginner through advanced. At the Beginner level, I get to introduce students to the instrument. This is one of my favorite parts because every new piece

I was nervous to have a lesson with private teacher and was petrified the first day when she asked me to play for her, but I was surprised by how supportive and reinforcing she was. She teaches in a very comfortable, positive, and engaging way. Not only does she adapt her teaching to "you," but she puts a lot of effort in her students. She teaches at a university, but puts just as much passion and care into her private students. I personally credit her to preparing me for college and building me into the musician I am today. I highly recommend her to anybody- at all levels! :)

Jenny is a kind and strong teacher. I truly enjoyed my lessons with her as I studied flute. She is an asset to the community for many reasons, but her love for education is superb.

It is with great pleasure for me to recommend Jenny as a flute instructor. I am one of her advanced and more mature students (I didn't want to say old lol! ). I graduated with a BM and have taught elementary music for 37 years. Jenny is creative, intuitive and compassionate. She has a thirst for knowledge and a great passion for teaching! She is always searching for new and innovative ways of teaching musical concepts. I am amazed how she is able to be so expressive in the way that she explains how to play expressively! In the short time that I have been taking lessons from Jenny I have experienced great improvement on all levels of my flute playing. Her “bag of tricks” appear to be endless! In my humble opinion I feel Jenny has all the qualities of a master teacher! I always look forward for my lessons with her!

Flute

Beginning flute students are often part of elementary, middle or high school band programs and seek to broaden their skills and work on band music in private lessons. Sometimes, the group lesson environment offered at school, if at all, does not provide enough one-on-one training for students that need a little extra attention.

Lynda works with students and uses a variety of the band methods, like Yamaha, Essential Elements or Accent on Achievement to coach beginning flute students through the basics. A great deal of time is spent on embouchure, breath support, pitch/intonation and working on developing a clear tone on every note. This learning curve is different for every player and has to be achieved before tackling more advanced flute music. There is a vast repertoire for flute depending on the interest of the student.

After the basic technique and band methods are completed, there are easy to advanced classical music books, often with piano accompaniment, ...

"I do not have enough positive words to say about Kerri. She is AMAZING and WONDERFUL. I was very skeptical of taking lessons from someone I found randomly on the internet but turned out she has been an incredible teacher and awesome mentor. She has taught me to play high notes in just two lessons. I am a beginner student and she has been so patient and given me great tactics to get my embouchure and aperture correct. I look forward to every lesson with her and am excited to practice! She is the most incredible teacher EVER! If you need or want to learn flute then shop no further as she knows so much about flutes, music, and just generally a very warm and incredible teacher."

"I have listened to Jennifer as she gave flute lessons to several young beginning students. I observed that she truly cares about her students and invests herself in their progress. She has a creative teaching style, always coming up with new ways to approach the challenges of each individual student. She spends time to discover the students’ goals and structures their lesson plans accordingly. Jennifer is also a good communicator with the parents of younger students, making sure they are informed and inviting them to observe lessons if they wish. I’m sure you’ll find her a delight to work with."
