It was an honor and a pleasure working with Gwen. Due to personal circumstances, I had to stop working with her, but I highly recommend her as an instructor. She's very knowledgeable, accommodating, and made me feel comfortable. You'll find yourself in good hands with her.

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching Guitars, Basses, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Music Production, Re
cording, and Live Sound for 16 years.

I can teach you note-reading, tabs, ear training, music theory, composition, improvisation in just about any style of music.

Working with people writing songs is something I enjoy thoroughly; I can help you write and record your own songs. A computer and internet access are preferred to take full advantage of the technology for learning and producing music.

Knowledgeable in Instrument repair, set-up, and maintenance, I can help you fix it, and how to spot a good instrument.

Patient and experienced, with a broad knowledge of music in most areas, I can give you hundreds of good references from previous students I've taught over the years

*** Studio Equipment ***

I have been very fortunate to have had some incredible teachers over the years - George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Billy Kilson, Ed Tomassi, Shannon LeClaire, and many others - and I know how much of a difference the right teacher can make.

I love to teach, and have been teaching both privately and in a school setting, as a band director, for many years. I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Whether you want to learn how to read music, improve your technique, work on your sound, practice the fundamentals, develop your soloing, or all of the above, I can help take you to the next level.

I hope to work with you!

About Dan
Originally from San Francisco, I have been playing saxophone for nearly 20 years. I have been fortunate to perform all over the world, including recent tours in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Panama, and Costa Rica, and have shared the stage with many great artists, including Danilo Perez, Kenny Werner, Ralph Thomas (Sun Ra Arkestra, Quincy Jones), Benjamin Koen (David Murray, Cecil Taylor), Uriel Barthelemi, Opor Red, R&B singer Allen Stone, and singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer.

I have spent many years working with private students ranging of all ages and levels. I have also served as the Performing Arts Director at the prestigious American Pacific International School, leading their concert band and music education programs.

I hold degrees from the University of California, Berkeley; Berklee College of Music; and am currently pursuing
my masters at Berklee as part of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI).

Before moving to Boston, I spent many years teaching and playing professionally in Asia.

Dan is a fountain of knowledge; an incredibly talented and eclectic artist. I have been struggling with alto sax for years but with Dan’s approach, I finally feel, I am making some progress. Dan tailors the lessons to fit your needs; making it challenging, comprehensive, engaging and fun. He helps me transcribe small parts of licks I like, which has been an invaluable experience for me. He makes sure that you REALLY get the material you are studying. Don’t just shake your head and say “yes”.
He is always there to answer your questions (no matter how dumb they may seem), encourages and motivates you.

About Soren H.

Tacoma, WA

I am an award-winning saxophonist with experience teaching students from beginning elementary to advanced high school levels. My style of teaching is interdisciplinary, tailored to each student's needs and goals, and focuses on artistry and technique equally. Students should expect to not only see noticeable progress in their first few lessons, but also develop the skills and knowledge to grow into competent and compelling musicians ready to leave their mark on the world!

About Soren
After a decade of studying and performing music around the country, I have recently returned to my roots in the Puget Sound region! I hold an MM from Bowling Green State University and a BM from the University of Oregon, both degrees in music performance but focusing specifically on the saxophone.

Every saxophonist has a unique sound, unique aspirations, and a unique musical identity. I believe that with focused regular practice, a solid grasp of technique/sound concept, and clear personal goals, students can take ownership of this identity and reach their full potential in any style or genre. I happily teach all ages and ability levels; my students have ranged from beginning fourth grader, to high school senior preparing for music in college.

My background is primarily in classical and contemporary music. I regularly take on a wi
de variety of performance projects, from traditional saxophone fare to the avant-garde. Recent performances include:

-radio broadcasts on KING FM, WGTE FM (Toledo, OH), and the nationally distributed program Performance Today;
-guest recitals at Ball State University and Fredonia State University of New York;
-new music festivals across the Midwest;
-a tour of public schools and remote community centers throughout western Washington; and
-Diving Santa at the Seattle Aquarium.

I am also passionate about chamber ensembles. Currently, I perform with a flute/saxophone/French horn trio, which, in less than a year together, has commissioned 6 new works for this new combination of instruments. One of the greatest joys in music is the special bond we make with others -- musicians, composers, and audiences -- through the creation of new music. I live for this joy, and strive to pass it on to each of my students.

Please message me before purchasing lessons! TakeLessons does not allow messages between you purchasing and me accepting new lessons. I am more than happy to answer any questions, and look forward to meeting you and helping you/your child become a better musician!

Soren has been an amazing music teacher to our 10 year old son who just took up beginning band in 4th grade and wanted to learn the saxophone. Our son always enjoys his lessons with Soren even when it’s at the end of a Monday evening; Soren gives our son a good balance of challenge and has an easy going style which has helped our boy enjoy his lessons while learning a lot.

Are you looking to start out on the saxophone? Or are you already a sax player looking to improve as a musician and reach that next level of playing? Wanna crush your jazz solo or audition? I can help you get there.

About Ariel
Hello there! My name is Ariel. I graduated from the University of Jamestown with a Bachelors in Music Education and Flute performance. I am primarily a flute family specialist: piccolo, flute, Alto and Bass flute are all in my wheelhouse. Through my years of schooling I have learned many other instruments and also am very skilled in voice, so I am qualified to teach most categories. I taught in the North Dakota Public School system in very small school districts for several years. My greatest strength while teaching was working one on one with each individual to get my students to a much higher level of playing and musicianship. I truly believe meeting each individual where they currently are and going from there is the best policy for growing as musician.

I also believe that in order to be the best teacher I can be I must continue to
grow as a musician as well. So, I too continue to work to improve my skills, and play with great ensembles to keep my skills sharp and ever growing. At the moment I play in 4 different community ensembles around the state of North Dakota and also participate annually in IMC's Adult Community Music Camp. Typically you will find me playing the flute and piccolo, but occasionally I pick up the Tenor Sax to play in Jazz combo, and when the season is right you will find me lugging around my Euphonium to play all of the Regional Tuba Christmas Events in North Dakota annually and from time to time I play in brass choirs. I truly believe the act of making music with an ensemble is a major key to success and fulfillment on your journey as a musician.

Ms. Oster was the best music instructor my Grandson ever had, he plays the Trumpet and plays it still today. She introduced him to the International Music a camp that is held at The Peace Gardens during the summer. Ms. Oster was the most positive influence on him to date. I often wish she could work with him again. It is a privilege and an honor to give her a review..thank you

I specialize in Balkan & Turkish style saxophone and clarinet. If you've never heard this style before, you're in for a treat. Clarinet and sax are used widely throughout Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans, but the approach to the instrument is much different from that of Western cultures. I will teach you the basics of Balkan reed-playing, and delve into the world Makam (Turkish "music theory").

About Tano
Tano Brock is a 23 year-old singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Tano began studying and performing music at a young age and had an almost super-natural knack for it ever since he began banging on a drum at only a few months old. Throughout his childhood, Tano accompanied his family to various music camps in California where he was exposed to music from all over the world. At 6 years old, he began studying darbuka, a Middle Eastern drum. He then started studying piano at age 7, and at 12 began teaching himself guitar. In his early teens he started playing saxophone/clarinet, as well as exploring the world of digital recording and production. At age 18, he released his self-produced debut solo album “Bandit” (2014) - which garnered significant success and launched his career as a com
poser for synch licensing. In 2019, Tano graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree focused on Music Production & Engineering. During his time at Berklee, he explored his deep affinity with world music traditions and traveled to Turkey and the Balkans to study with master musicians, and to Cuba to record a session at a studio in La Habana Vieja. He currently leads a Balkan brass band called Sarma Brass Band, which has performed venue such as the Grand Prospect Hall in NYC and the House of Blues in Boston.
