Mackenzie has been a phenomenal teacher! She is very good at adjusting her teaching style to fit your level of ability. She has a patient, deliberate approach, but won't let you get away with mediocrity. Definitely recommend!

Hi! I am so stoked that you have decided to take guitar lessons. The guitar is an endlessly fascinating instrument that can be used to play a wide variety of styles. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of the instrument with you regardless of your skill level.

A little bit about my life with the guitar:

I began learning guitar with my father and brother at home. Then I took electric guitar lessons in the blues and soul genre with a local legend named Carl "Good Rockin" Robinson. I also studied jazz and classical with Leo Cavanagh.

Later, I studied finger-style with Peppino D'Agostino, jazz with Mimi Fox, and flat-picking with Eric Thomson (website error won't let me spell his name correctly with a "p").

In college, I had the privilege to study classically with Scott Tennant and Pepe Romero, amongst others.

Today, I write and perform with a rock band called Idle Joy, with a folk singer called Rainy Eyes, and for private events. Recently, I had the great honor of ...

Daniel has such a rich knowledge of the guitar that he imparted to me with such an ease of explanation and patience. His teaching style encouraged me to believe that I could play anything I wanted on guitar, that there were no limits to what I could do or play. He never treated me like a beginner, he treated me like a pro, and was able to teach me skill sets and songs that I felt were way beyond my level because of his careful instruction and tuning into my optimal learning style right away.
Needless to say, he’s an amazing music teacher and he’s also the most skilled guitarist I’ve ever met.

Daniel Lavezzo is an extremely knowledgeable, open and dynamic guitar tutor. He was always willing and able to teach me everything I wanted or needed to know. I studied classical, finger-style acoustic, blues and a little bit of jazz with him. He always took me to that next level of playing and kept me inspired. On top of all that he is genuinely positive and kind. I highly recommend studying under him.

"Our family's guitar, mandolin and bass teacher

All three of our children have taken guitar lessons from Steve, and I have also taken guitar lessons from Steve. Our daughter has, in addition to guitar, taken mandolin and bass guitar lessons from him. We started with Steve six years ago in Moorhead, MN and now that Steve has moved to Colorado two of our kids take weekly online lessons with him on Skype, which has worked out really well. The ages our kids have been while being Steve's students have ranged from 9 to 16. Our 10 year old son says that "It is fun to be his student, he is easy to learn from, and I always enjoy my lessons". Our 16 year old daughter says that "Steve picks good songs to work on and breaks them down so they are easy to learn. He know so much about theory for guitar and I've learned so much from him and he is very supportive". As a parent and having taught piano lessons myself, I am impressed with Steve's ability to teach the beginners to the advanced, making things understandable and fun, and most of all, that he is always positive and patient. Steve is also very organized and easy to communicate with. We all give Steve our best recommendations."

"I was looking for a teacher that was able to teach (a lot) of the gaps I have in my playing. I learned to play other people songs and had cover bands, but never really thought about what I was doing.

Indigo approach to the guitar is exactly what I was looking for: A harmony / melody first approach that is guiding me through theory in a simple, natural way.

I don't need to memorize scale shapes, chords shapes. In a couple of weeks I've learned to understand them and I we're starting to dive deeper.

Overall Indigo is clearly knowledgeable, extremely patient and is able to communicate complex subjects in a simple way. I feel that I am evolving a lot each week and this is even more than I was looking for.

I highly recommend Indigo if you're looking to learn to play the guitar or understand it like I did!"

The Real Reasons Why You Need To Learn Guitar Scales

Is it really necessary to learn guitar scales? If you'd rather just focus on chords and songs, you're not alone. But here, Austin, TX teacher Samuel B. shares why practicing your scales will ultimately make you a better guitar player down the line... I'm a 25-year veteran of playing the guitar. In seventh grade, I took an introductory class to both the guitar and keyboard, in which I received only a "B" as I pretty much neglected the keyboard altogether. Besides, I'd taken piano lessons …
