Flamenco Singing and Clapping All Levels

Why Study Cante and Palmas with a Guitarist? Right now in the NYC flamenco scene you could opt to study with a couple of cantaores who are from Spain, or you could study with 1-2 female dancers who are currently working more often as flamenco singers. Why can I, El Guapo del Milwaukee, help you understand the most mysterious form of el arte flamenco? 1) I have been involved with flamenco accompaniment 44 years. 2) I understand how to accompany all the dance and cante forms, and as a musician, I know how everything fits together. 3) I sing most of the cante forms, and can learn new requests quickly. 4) I am bilingual. Puedo defenderme bien en Español Sometimes, as foreigners living outside Spain, it takes a long time to immerse yourself in flamenco and understand how the 4 elements, dance, cante, guitar and palmas are important for every flamenco performer to understand and to be good at. I can help inexperienced dancers and guitarists digest this knowledge with clear explanation, and my ability to present in an organized manner, with valuable analytical insights. While I did not grow up in Spain, I have acquired authenticity by experience, and I can help you get there. Get involved now and participate in the upcoming Recital scheduled for Sun May 19 in Woodside Queens at The Secret Theatre! PLEASE NOTE: Teacher's Home means Pre-Reserved Studio in Jackson Hts near my home.

    About Basilio G.

I am a flamenco guitarist with 45 years experience in accompaniment of both dance and cante. I lived and worked in Spain several times during the 1980s. When I first came to NY it was as a jazz guitarist. I later switched instruments to bass for about 7 years and played with many jazz and salsa bands. Therefore, I bring a broad musician's perspective to flamenco, especially the modern styles. There is also an area of flamenco known as La Ida y Vuelta ("Round Trip"), influenced by Afro Caribbean Hispanic dance and music. With my background, I OWN the understanding of that format! I am bilingual. Puedo defenderme bien en Español. I also sing, and have produced many Cante workshops with high level artists, and have studied with other cantaores. I know how all 4 forms of flamenco (guitar, dance, cante, palmas) fit together. I am very good at explaining structure clearly, and have strong analytical abilities. For inexperienced guitarists who have only thought about playing solo, I can strengthen your rhythm and get you accompanying cante and dance. For both guitar and dance students, I can explain how important it is to understand the different cantes and the structures so that you become more complete performers of flamenco. Our company Flamenco Latino can also provide performance opportunities in Recitals, or for very talented, committed students, opportunities to elevate and work with us.
