Teaching Guitar Lessons in Atlanta

By Paul E. - Atlanta Guitar Teacher

Atlanta is an outstanding place to teach music. The city has a diverse, cultured population with a fabulous appreciation for the arts. As a TakeLessons instructor, it is an honor to teach guitar lessons in Atlanta, a city with such an expressive urban landscape.

My students have very different musical backgrounds. Some have performed in school or church groups, while others have no experience playing music at all. Their goals and interests in music are just as unique. Many of them are working toward becoming live performers, while others are only seeking a private and personal development of their music ability. Nevertheless, it is not difficult to motivate my students to achieve the goals they set for themselves during their guitar lessons in Atlanta.

To any new students considering guitar lessons in Atlanta, I invite you to give TakeLessons a shot. We offer a great deal of expertise and experience that will help guide you through your journey in learning music. We take musical growth very seriously, and as an instructor I guarantee you won’t regret it. Come make music with us!

I have been playing guitar since I was 14, and have been performing and teaching for over 20 years.
I studied jazz guitar, composition, and theory at the Mannes Conservatory in NYC, NY., and also with several private teachers.
I teach many styles, including rock, pop, blues, folk, and jazz.
(I do NOT play classical or flamenco.)
I tailor my lessons to meet the interests and learning styles of my students. I teach playing by ear, music reading, tablature, and theory. I enjoy teaching students of all ages - children, teens, and adults.
I make lessons fun for young children, by including some musical games and activities. With teens and adults, I have the students choose the songs and styles they wish to work on, and go from there.

About Linda
*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.

I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.

The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs.
Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory, with en emphasis on rock, pop, and folk music. I include arranging, chord theory, and use of the many features of an elec
tronic keyboard, in the lessons.
Bass Guitar: I teach rock, pop, funk, and country music on bass.
Banjo: I teach bluegrass, country, and some blues and rock music. I can also teach a bit of old-timey frailing/clawhammer style.
English and Reading: I am highly qualified, to tutor/teach English (spoken, written, and reading comprehension) to both native English speakers and to those learning it as a second language.
*** I am particularly good at working with children who have a.d.h.d. and other learning disabilities!

Linda is easily the most patient and welcoming person I've ever worked with. She has incredible knowledge over a vast array of topics and she is eager to share with others. This, in my opinion, is the most important quality of all teachers. Her lessons have proved a great way to build a solid base in my field of interest. as well as providing me with a well rounded and wonderful mentor that I'm sure to rely on for many other lessons in the future- banjo or otherwise!

Found Donny in my driveway taking cocaine waiting for my son and I to come back to the house. Absolutely horrifying. Do not work with this person. He was always on his phone as well during my son's lessons and would cut lessons short.

I've played guitar my whole life and have been teaching professionally since 1990. My teaching style is involves showing you ways to make playing easier and to point out what you're right so you'll keep doing it! I also help you design practice routines based on songs you like.

About Casey
While still in high school, three of my songs were featured on National Public Radio and I was able to play at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. I next went to school at App State and then graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music and headlined the graduation concert! My grad school was moving around Atlanta, Savannah, Athens, Nashville, New York and Chicago as a hired guitarist, and teaching in music stores. I played in a wide range of styles and roles (engineer, promoter, musical director, band leader etc) and around 300 gigs!

I took a break last year to finish 2 books I had bouncing around in my head and hard drive and self published them last year! The books compliment lessons so our time is spent showing you how to play and playing together, not you looking at me, while I draw a chord. The books have tab with rhythm, chor
d/scale diagrams and a written description of each topic like an encyclopedia. They also show you how music fits together and give you a solid foundation to build on and music ideas you can use.

As a performer in Savannah, Georgia, my band received the "Best Blues Band" award from Connect Magazine in 2007. I'm currently endorsing Curt Mangan Strings and Gadow Guitars because they're awesome!!!

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is all about building on what you already know and pointing out what you're doing right. I'm a very laid back person and love to hear and learn new music so I try to incorporate the music you want to learn as much as possible. Above all else I try to teach you how to practice so that you get the most out of your guitar when you're not in your lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
recording studio, amps, music stand chairs...has a dog.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Travel amp, acoustic or electric, cables.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching theory, technique, performance and improvisation through song so you don't feel like you're working. I am fluent in and have performed these styles on stage: rock, jazz, blues, pop, metal, show tunes, surf, funk, jam, and R&B. I like it all! I teach you to have a solid foundation and how to get songs performance ready. I also try to encourage you to write your own music and can show you some ways to be more creative and get more mileage out of some of the things you already know.

About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

The students I work with should have the goal of having fun and learning a new way to approach things, as music tests our minds continuously. I've had a blast making this my career as a touring musician and I could not imagine a better way to give back to the music community than to make sure the next generation gains the knowledge that was given to me in so many different scenarios. I hope to work with you and test you along the way to become a better musician as well as a better person. Thanks

About Codey
I was never told music could be a job and my goal with my students is them to grow as individuals, learn how to tackle tasks from an abstract perspective, and have A LOT of fun!!!
I've been going around to elementary schools doing careers days and teaching students locally for years and find this as good a way to give back as any. Music gave my life purpose and direction when I had none. I would LOVE to share a glimpse into my musical brain with you and your loved ones.
For the past three years I've play with the Atlanta "farm raised rock" band 'Codey Bearden's Tiny Kitchen and we've gotten the chance to see the majority of the east coast, wake up at the most beautiful places and play anywhere from the top of the Daytona Beach Pier on Memorial Day weekend to festivals tucked in on the side of mountains in Asheville, I've mad

I am an experienced guitarist and guitar teacher of 7 years! I am happy to take your skills to the next level! We will focus on strengthening scales, ear training, finger mobility, and more! You will be jamming out with your favorite rock, pop, jazz, r&b songs in no time!

About Cierra
I am a pianist, guitarist, ukulelist, and vocalist with a BA in music composition from Clark Atlanta University. I have participated in several jazz bands, including The Raelettes. I have also had the time of my life touring the country with the Clark Atlanta Philharmonic Society. I have now had the pleasure of teaching fresh out of college and have been doing so for three years now! It has become one of my greatest passions!

My students will focus heavily on building a solid foundation, as that is the beginning to anything that is great and that will last, right?! My piano students are usually playing songs within the first 2-3 weeks of lessons! We focus on strengthening sight reading and technique, so we can bring it to EVERY piece of music!

As a guitar teacher, one of my main focuses with my students is muscle memory and SCALES! If
you want to be able to solo along with your favorite lead guitarist, it would help to know what key they are playing, right? I am here to help you identify different positions and scales along the fretboard to get you playing that a lot sooner!

My ukulele students are quite unique, as so the ukulele! If you have taken up guitar at anytime, ukulele will be such a breeze for you! But even if you have not, it is one of the 'easier' stringed instruments to learn. I focus heavily on practicing individual note reading, scales, and of course, different strumming techniques for this instrument. This instrument is all about the strum!

I was first a vocal major in college before switching to music composition. My vocal students will see improvement in their breathing within the first two weeks of lessons. Once we understand the breathe, we will delve deeper into strengthening that breath in the core so that we produce a clear, healthy and melodious tone!

Music is first about passion. Then, it is about the doing, but also keeping the passion. And I think you're ready! Send me a message, and let's get started!

I have been teaching guitar professionally for over 4 years in the Atlanta area. As a recent graduate of Kennesaw State University with a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance, I have developed a deep love for music and the guitar which I thoroughly enjoy sharing with my students. I currently teach and perform, traveling across the United States with various groups performing a multitude of genres, all of which I love teaching and sharing with eager students! I was not a "natural" guitarist, so I have a great method for making guitar/music make sense so that all of my students can be successful. I look forward to working with you!

About Patrick
I am a professional guitarist, composer, and educator living in the Greater Atlanta Area. I started playing guitar while in high school at Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School. I owe a lot of my success to my time spent here as this school is consistently ranked one of the top schools in the nation.
I wasn't a "naturally gifted' musician, so if you are just starting out don't worry! I've been there and I have picked up a lot of tips and tricks along the way to help you out!
After high school, I decided to further pursue my passion for music and was accepted to Kennesaw State University as a Jazz Performance Major. Shortly after arriving in Kennesaw I began performing all over Atlanta as a sideman in various groups and even started a few groups of my own. I have had some great opportunities to tour and travel across the United States playing
music, it is a really great feeling.I was a recipient of the GA Music Hall of Fame Talent Award in 2014 where I performed on national television for the first time. In 2016 I recorded an album with a good friend of mine, Morgan Guerin, entitled "The Saga" which reached #3 on the iTunes Jazz Charts on the first day of its release.

I have recently graduated from KSU with my Jazz Degree and have been teaching and performing extensively. Teaching has been a very rewarding part of my life, it has given me the opportunity to learn and grow as a musician in ways that performing simply cannot compete with. I really look forward to working with you and being a part of your musical journey!
