I love teaching music! I have been a professional guitar instructor for over 8 years. Through attentive one on one instruction I develop a program to suit the player's goals. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, chord progressions, rhythm training, and ear training. I can guide a complete beginner toward being able to play songs and have fun. For the more serious student I have a plan that will make you a better player and musician guaranteed.

Rene has helped me gain confidence, skill, and curiosity when I approach to singing. He brings humor, personality, and patience to each lesson. Despite being an absolute beginner, he helped me feel proud and valued each lesson. I can not recommend Rene for singing lessons enough!

Rene is a great teacher that teaches not only technique but also music theory and shows you how to practice effectively and with purpose instead of just noodling on the guitar. Overall, I personally have learned a lot since I started my lessons with him.

Hi! I have been playing guitar for over 40 years. I was introduced to guitar by my older brother. He taught me Johnny B. Goode & we would jam for hours. I took some music classes at college but was a business major. Colleges only offered classical guitar & I was not interested in that. I have since studied six years with SF Conservatory graduate & classical guitarist Tim Lawler. Tim helped me learn to read music & develop my teaching skills. Thanks Tim!
I have been teaching for over 25 years, making a living at it for most of that time. I teach group & private lessons. Most of my students are beginners. Many start out as kids & stay until they go to college. I have a lot of teen & adult students also, with many diverse interests from classical, jazz, rock, funk, blues, alt, pop, rap, punk, metal, folk, country, game music, Americana, reggae, bluegrass. I also have those interests. Students are studying with me; we are both learning. I enjoy it as much as they do. I ...

Since 1998, I have taught as many as forty private students per week, many of whom have gone on to pursue the instrument through college, conservatory, and performance.

About Chris

Hi there! Thanks for visiting my profile. I've been playing guitar since 1980, and teaching since 1998. After taking piano lessons as a small child, I fell in love with the classical guitar around 11 years old and haven't put it down since. I'm comfortable teaching children and adults of all skill

"If you like guitar, you'll like James.

I have had about a dozen lessons so far with James, starting out as a complete beginner, with knowledge of only a few chords. In this short time, I have learned a great deal of theory, practice strategy, playing full songs, and even singing along with a few in time. James has been very hospitable and patient, and I recommend him to anyone who loves the guitar, regardless of skill!"

"Missy is great! She has a unique way of understanding how I, as an individual, learn rather than cookie cutter teaching. She explains why we are doing things the way we are and how it will help me be able to play later. I'd recommend her to anyone and I'm looking forward to me next lesson!"

"Dennis was my instructor and is a bit modest about his experience. He taught me on my mom's crappy nylon stringed spanish acoustic guitar back in the 80s. I hope he reads this and remembers the little studios at Fox's Music in Falls Church. He patiently taught me Rick Springfield songs, probably against his taste and better judgment. Anyway, he got me started in my teens and I'm still playing some of the tunes he taught me (plus a few hundred others) on a slightly nicer guitar these days, in my 40s. Keep rockin', Dennis, and thanks for helping spark a hobby I still enjoy decades later!"

"Based upon my experience with Bill teaching my son, I would definitely recommend him for guitar lessons. He was always upbeat, pleasant and ready to share his knowledge, not to mention, he could listen to a song and then jot down the sheet music for it. In that regard, he could teach a person any song they would like to learn. I would say, my most convincing recommendation comes from the fact that my son was always ready and happy to attend a session with Bill, which as a mom, made my heart happy. Give Bill a try!"

Guitar Lessons in Baltimore

By Ben P. - Baltimore Guitar Teacher

Think back to all the things you have learned to do in your life such as riding a bike, tying your shoes or changing a tire. Now think back to the activities you participated in as a child: dance, karate, ice-skating, skiing, and swimming. Think back to the team sports you participated in and the after-school clubs you attended. Chances are you spent a lot of time learning as you were growing up, whether from your parents, instructors, coaches or teachers. Chances are you learned much of what you know in your life because you invested time in something that interested you and were guided by a knowledgeable teacher or coach. From the time we are young and throughout most of our lives, we are learning from others. It’s the rare case that we lear

...

n something completely independently and master it, succeed at it, or make money doing it. Even the simple pleasures of life are more pleasurable when we feel we have control over what we are doing, be it fishing, gardening, practicing yoga or kick-boxing. We enjoy the things that we are good at and that we understand.

Count in your head how many people you know that “play” the guitar - not that actually understand music theory, can read and write music proficiently and have some level of mastery of their instrument, but if you were to bring it up in conversation would say they can “play the guitar a little?” And what does “a little” mean? It means that they don’t actually know how to play. It means that they memorized a few chords and can strum them well enough to churn out a couple of songs. It means that they know how to play the pentatonic scale and can solo over a 12-bar blues progression. Perhaps it’s because the rock and roll image doesn’t promote students of music, but rebellions of study, the anti-student. But the key word in that statement is “image.” Many rock musicians have studied music at some level, whether privately or collegiate.

But what about the rest of us, who simply enjoy learning new things, who love music and want to learn how to make it? Did your 4th grade teacher assume you already knew how to do long division? Did your swim instructor demand you swim the breast stroke in your first lesson? Why then would you expect that you could learn to do something as complicated and beautiful as learning to play an instrument without some guidance? If you want to be more than the person who “can play a little,” then you should consider taking guitar lessons in Baltimore with a certified instructor who can help you achieve this goal. Learn the basics, the theory of music and why it works. You will not only become better at your instrument, but you’ll learn techniques for making music that you’ll treasure as much as the memory of the day you took off your training wheels and rode down the street all on your own.
