Playing and Teaching Guitar Lessons in Phoenix, AZ

By Henri B. - Phoenix Guitar Teacher

Do you want to learn how to play the guitar in Phoenix? If yes, then you’ve come to the right place. Private guitar lessons and classes with a TakeLessons Certified™ teacher near you - whether in-home, studio, or online classes - accelerates progress, increases enjoyment, and improves every beginner's chances of becoming an expert player.

I started learning to play the guitar in high school simply because I wanted “to be cool.” Everyone I knew thought people who played the guitar were “cool,” so I taught myself how to play the song “Happy Birthday.” I was so excited about it that I continued learning simple songs. It was from that point forward that I fell in love and developed a passion for the instrument.

I love to play and teach guitar lessons in the greater Phoenix, AZ area. Phoenix has amazing bands with so many awesome musicians. I am part of a wonderful cluster of musicians that create a professional and supportive community. I am consistently being inspired and challenged to practice daily in order to keep my chops tight and my musical abilities strong.

There was a point when I felt stuck and frustrated, and that no progress was being made. So I found a great instructor who challenged and taught me to play new things that I could not play on my own before. It was at that time that I started making some major breakthroughs in my playing and feeling like “Wow! It happened again” every day.

The guitar is one of the “coolest” instruments for anyone to learn. And I believe that anyone can learn, at the very least, to play some fun and simple songs. With time, practice, and focus, perhaps you can become one of the best of your generation. Take guitar lessons in Phoenix and see for yourself!

Our guitar instructors work with students of all ages: kids, teenagers, adults, and even seniors. We guarantee a customized experience that will exceed your expectations. In fact, we are so committed to your happiness that we offer all new customers a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on your first lesson.

About Charles
I am an international recording artist and seasoned performer. I have been playing music since the early age of 8 yrs old. I have always been inspired by music and love to inspire others with music. Some of my accomplishments include putting an album out with Universal Records as a Nashville recording artist, having over 7 albums out internationally, and recording and playing with some of the biggest names in the music industry. I am a classically trained musician as well as an innovative and experienced teacher. I have been teaching for over 15 years and have seen many of my students go on to become top-notch performers themselves while pursuing successful careers in music. In addition to being a private music teacher, I have also taught at many schools in the valley including the Center for Educational Excellence School, Grand Canyon Pr
eparatory private charter school and the Arizona Music Academy. I teach all levels of guitar, bass, and drums and tailor every lesson to the individual student’s needs and personality. My annual recitals are live-performance concerts featuring bands and other performing groups formed from among my students along with solo performances. My students also perform regularly throughout the community and are successful in their musical endeavors at all ages. I teach a wide range of genres and styles from classical music, blues, jazz and rock to heavy metal with an emphasis on becoming A-Level lead guitar soloists and song writers. I teach songwriting skills, music theory, and have even helped many of my guitar students be able to sing better while learning their main instrument.

*** Lesson Details ***
I make my lessons fun and informative and have had many students stay with me for up to 7 years. I show you everything you will ever need to know about music theory but in a very useful applicable way. No matter if you want to become a pro lead guitar player or just play to have fun I can show you how to sing and play the guitar or piano at the same time or singing songs from church as well as your favorite rock or pop songs with confidence.

Guitar students start with five subjects.

1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.

2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.

3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.

4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?

5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"

A beginning student will practice all

About Phillip
I teach music. The guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele just happen to be the particular instruments I choose. Music as a language, discipline, and art, is the goal. I've been teaching, performing, studying, composing, for some thirty years. I've studied and gigged in the classical, jazz, rock, blues, R & B, and country idioms. I've taught composition and improvisation to instruments other than guitar, (vocalists, fiddle, sax, piano, trumpet) I've taught all ages and levels. I currently pursue a doctorate of music in guitar at university. Students learn many things when studying with me. They learn physically how to play a particular instrument while learning music as its own language. Students learn how to learn, learn self-discipline, and access their musical expression, all potential life changing experiences. I am happy and
excited to announce I am available for on-line lessons, and will now be able to work with students from all over the world, regardless of distance or location!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am laid back, but at the same time very goal directed. I like to do technique and/or vocabulary, note reading, and songs every lesson. After six months students are able to to 'jam', (improvise over chord changes such as the blues). They are well on their way to becoming literate, probably a third way through the first book. They probably can play a half dozen songs well, and are starting to strum (comp) chord progressions in a musically rhythmic way. They may even have played in a couple concerts by then.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Office studio w/ guitar, bass, amps, and seating for parents, computer with skype capability.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my guitar and writing tools, extra picks, extra paper etc. Students provide their own instrument, method book, staff paper, notebook paper. Hopefully they have a music stand and their own guitar picks and other items relevant for the study of their instrument.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, theory/composition, improvisation

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. In my opinion, having been an educator in the Isaac School District for many years, Mr. Quintana exhibits excellent teaching techniques and strategies to enable the learner to be successful. He is professional, prepared, courteous, and prompt. For the past 6 years, Mr.Quintana has been my cello instructor. The environment that he creates as an educator provides an excellent foundation for continued learning. Mr. Quintana's knowledge of string instruments and piano are superb.

Victor is a great instructor and a great person. He is wonderful with my young son, who was an absolute beginner when he started lesson with Victor at age 8. My son has a learning disability that makes it harder for him to read music and process instructions. Victor worked with all of that with patience and respect. Now my son can play beautiful songs and perform in front of others. I believe that learning music has also helped my son become better at reading, math, and thinking! Most of all, he feels successful about his guitar skills, which adds to his confidence. I cannot thank Victor enough!

Hi there and thanks for visiting! I have been playing guitar, singing, writing and producing music for the greater part of my life. My endeavor is to guide you to an understanding of one or many of these facets and give you the tools you need to become your own teacher as you continue down this path.

Below is a brief synopsis about the lessons I teach:

Guitar/Songwriting:
There will be very little music theory. I never needed much of it to write my own music, other than a few basic theories to get around successfully, so it’s not something we’ll spend a whole lot of time on. I have organized and constructed a course book to keep things lively and moving along efficiently. I call it NOTEbOOK. It’s also great refresher material to revisit in the future.

I teach basic guitar with accented professional appeal and rhythmic structure. My intention is to guide you to create your own original music using straightforward techniques. My goal, once we part ways, is for you to leave ...

About Lorin
I’ve been a writer and musician since I was a teenager, and have been teaching music lessons for over a decade. I began journaling at 15, mostly free-writing and poetry. This was my segway into guitar and songwriting. Over the years, piece by piece, I’ve gathered many angles to my myriad profession.

I’ll never forget my first singer/songwriter experience when I was 17. I watched my neighbor play guitar and sing on his porch. That moment changed my life and set me on the road I’m on today. Music and poetry can be transcendent when there is truth and love behind it.

At 18, I formed a transitory first band, The Screaming Poets. Shortly after, while attending Columbia College Chicago for creative writing, I organized another project called Satori. This group featured an accoutrement of musicians and styles over the course of its existen
ce. From indie-folk to punkish hard-rock to downtempo electronica, it was its own versatile caravan.

Post-Satori and a plethora of songs later, I fell into the world of electronic music production and engineering, getting hands-on with computer software and a keyboard controller. Furthering my advancement in the technological arts, I attended SAE Institute of Technology located in the heart of New York City. I graduated from the program with high standings.

The introduction to electronic music was a seed planted many years ago working with a friend producer and DJ. Over the years that seed developed into a unique cohesion of computer production with organic guitar songwriting. The electronica artist Loryn was born from this elemental form of designing music. Jointly, signed as Loryn with GoDIY Records, I began offering a licensing/production service for other artists, pitching my original remixes of their songs to opportunities in television.

Under Loryn, in 2011, I began releasing monthly newsletters to my fans and subscribers. In addition to artist updates, my passion for writing naturally crept in and became part of the newsletters. I have recently compiled these newsletters, as well as other works, into an anthology of poetry, prose, and flash fiction published in 2015.

Music… Writing… Teaching… Production… Whatever reason you’re here today, I’d love to learn more and possibly join you on your journey.

Lorin helped me hone my songwriting skills immensely, by not only teaching but collaborating with me when necessary. It was refreshing to find someone who put his teachings into practical learning, where I could see the outcomes become apparent. He’s a nice dude, and is experienced equally across his fields. He guided me to making intelligent choices for equipment purchases, both instruments and pro audio gear. We first met while he was living in New York, and boy has he traveled since. I think living in so many different states, and being that well journeyed has given him good cultural depth to his work. Check out some of his own collabs with singers and musicians from all over the world...that really says it all.
