I teach saxophone lessons to students of all abilities, ages, and interests. A recent graduate of the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music, I am offering in-home, studio, and online lessons.

About Ian
Hi, my name is Ian and I have been playing music professionally since 2006 and teaching since 2009. A recent graduate of the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music, I am building up my private studio. I am available to teach lessons at a studio location, your home, or online. I have worked with students who are looking to enjoy learning more about music as well as those who are preparing for important auditions and performances. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and skill levels.

When working with children and adolescents, I create a structured learning environment and provide comprehensive instruction in instrumental technique, musicianship, and music theory. With adults, I teach them the fundamentals of the saxophone and reading music. As these skills develop, we explore the styles of music that inspire you to play.

I have s
tudied under Reggie Workman, Billy Harper, Bobby Sanabria, Kirk Nurock, and many others and developed expertise in saxophone, improvisation, and composition (classical, jazz, rock, and pop). I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I own both an alto and a tenor saxophone and am happy to work with students who play other saxophones. If you do not yet have a saxophone, I can sometimes arrange to have one available for you to use during the lesson, but I need to know in advance. Eventually, you will need your own instrument to practice. I am always happy to help students with saxophone rentals and purchases!

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all about lessons or acquiring an instrument. I'd be happy to work with you!

I have played the clarinet since 1995, and saxophone fingerings are almost the same! I played the saxophone throughout high school in jazz band, and I played it in college as well. For beginning saxophone players, I would use the "Essential Elements" book. There are many other finger exercise and technique books that I would use for more advanced players.

About Elyse
Hi, Everyone! Thank you so much for taking a moment to read my blurb! My name is Elyse, and I can't wait to meet you! I've taught music in small ensembles since July, 2007 by helping out marching bands. It was so much fun! Teaching and music are my biggest passions.

**If you're going to make a mistake, make a loud one!!**

I want my students to know right off the bat it's okay to make mistakes! My philosophy is: You make mistakes. Mistakes don't make you. :) We fix them and learn together.

I have classroom taught since 2010 - General Music and Choir. I have been teaching private lessons since 2014, and I have absolutely LOVED helping my students read music, excel at playing or singing songs that they enjoy, and seeing their happiness and excitement when they realize how much they have achieved.

In 2009, I graduated from Kent S
tate University, located in Kent, OH, and I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I'm definitely a fun-loving, outgoing person, and my teaching style is tailored to my students; a think-outside-the-box style, and hands-on.

Let's get together, reach for those stars, and grab your goals!

I like to give students a good solid theoretical foundation first, then build to confirm with the students specific goals. For example, if the student is into a particular type of music (jazz, soul...) I tailor the lessons to meet those goals.

About Jeff
Starting with my first music lessons at age 7, I've spent the last 40 plus years studying and performing music. I studied classical guitar with well-known Cuban virtuoso, Carlos Molina & Adam Holtzman. I've performed with some of the music world’s greats such as blues legend Bo Diddley, The Platters, The Coasters, Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills & Nash), Bonnie Raitt as well as jazz greats Randy Brecker, Red Rodney, Ira Sullivan, Pam Laws & Marcus Roberts. Since moving to the Portland area in April 2015 I've performed with the Portland Wind Symphony, The Hillsboro Symphony, The Minidoka Swing Band, for Nike at the Olympic trials, on jazz night at WineUp on Williams downtown. & innumerable private performances. As a teacher, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Florida State University and after teaching middle school in F

Mr. Ronnie has been the most caring, patient instructor for my son. Brennen looks forward to every lesson and enjoys his time learning. Being only 10 years old, I was concerned that he would not have the attention span for lessons and end up giving up before he really had the chance to learn. This has not been the case with Mr. Ronnie as he has kept my sons attention during each lesson and helped him learn something new in each lesson where Brennen looks forward to what he is going to learn at his next lesson. If you want someone who is going to take a genuine interest in your child then Mr. Ronnie is the right person for you.

Learning an instrument, like learning a language, should be an interactive experience with a continuous flow of feedback. It should also be fun, with the opportunity to use each new skill in real life and on a daily basis.

Over the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to study the saxophone (as well piano, composition, arranging, film scoring, and songwriting) with some of the most creative and talented teachers from Los Angeles, New York, and Portland, OR. Through my years of studying and teaching beginning and intermediate saxophonists, I believe it is the teacher's job to "teach the student how to teach themselves" by giving them the tools and critical feedback needed to excel not only in learning a new instrument, but in all aspects of music and life.

About Aaron
I am a professional saxophonist, composer, and songwriter with a particular passion in writing music for films and video games. Growing up near Portland, Oregon, I was surrounded by friends who were engrossed by jazz, classical, and rock music, and immediately wanted to be a part of it. Throughout high school, I had the opportunity to perform in New York City, Atlanta, and Monterey with the award-winning American Music Program, as well as record on numerous occasions with Grammy-award-winning artist Esperanza Spalding.

Since coming to live in Los Angeles, CA in 2013, I have been involved in both the jazz and pop music scenes as a performer and arranger, leading my own groups and music directing for others. I have also been involved in the film scene, composing the music for 16 short films, 5 independent video games, and a 3-episode
web series. (You can also see/hear me play a few notes in 2014's "Whiplash")

In my lessons, I am happy to cover everything from beginning techniques on the instrument, being able to improvise in any context or genre, and working in a recording studio setting.

I strongly believe in the values of listening, improvising (both in music and in life), and perceiving every instance and detail as a chance to learn. These are the values on which I base my teaching, as well as my own music.

I am a lover of all kinds of music, movies, video games, hiking, traveling, and Mexican food.

I have been working with Eric for the past 10 years. He has helped my Downey HS Jazz Program tremendously through his method of teaching jazz improvisation. Eric made my job a lot easier, having students understanding the art of creating something out of nothing! As it is very frightening for young musicians to improvise, Eric developed a sense of confidence in our students when it comes to it. I can’t thank him enough for what he does every week
