Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

A woodwind player since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach beginning clarinet lessons.

About Thomas
Piano, woodwinds, trumpet, composition
Chords, sight-reading, theory, jazz, classical, and pop

No one ever regrets learning an instrument… yet many grow old wishing they had taken music lessons! A talent they’ll be able to develop their entire life, your children will thank you for giving them the chance to learn music. And bonus points for you: after just a couple years, you’ll have free entertainment every Christmas!

Or maybe YOU’RE the one that wishes to learn! It is never too late to begin learning an instrument. Everybody has the ability, and if you’re determined and interested, there’s nothing stopping us from achieving this very special goal. (Interested in learning to compose? Scroll to the bottom to learn more.)

Everybody learns differently, and everybody likes different things. Whether it’s improvising or singing alon
gside a song you love or reading through a classical concerto, I’ll help prepare you or your child to tackle a wide variety of styles, without missing out on any of the basics that turn good players into phenomenal musicians. We all know it’s not about being the best. It’s about having fun, and playing music well is definitely fun. Music lessons include:

1. Building a really strong foundation so it's easy to interpret or understand any part, and to play it with the right amount of practice.

2. Learning to sight-read music, so you can play it well as soon as possible.

3. Learning how to improvise (make-up) music, learn music by ear, and to understand and create chords, which lets you play music in different ways.

4. Play different styles from classical to jazz to popular music.

5. Learning how to practice efficiently so you can learn music as fast as possible.

6. Composing our own original music.

Practice makes perfect! Learning an instrument helps build self-confidence and discipline. If your child’s bored, distracted, or just needs a constructive hobby, music is a great place to get them interested in something that will help them feel better about themselves, and the effects will be felt across everything else they do, through better studying habits to a more patient, diligent work ethic.

It’s also relaxing! Stressed about work? Need an escape? Everybody has the power to learn an instrument. Seriously, there’s no such thing as “talent.” Just start lessons and get practicing! It really is that simple, and I’ll guide you through every step of the way.

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all. My experience as a working musician in films, musical theater, and pop music, as well as classical concert music, allows me to appreciate and teach styles that many other instructors overlook, and I know full well that learning an instrument is not about becoming a professional; it’s about being able to connect to others or oneself through music… and also to just have fun! There’s no need to learn music we don’t like! It’s not about stuffing Beethoven into your kids’ ears… we just want to make music, be that Beethoven or Billy Joel.

Learning an instrument is one of those few skills that will genuinely last you your whole life. I don’t want to sugarcoat it: it takes time to learn an instrument. It takes practice, and sometimes it’s frustrating. But the results are well worth it.

Now get out there and make some music! But start by signing up for lessons. I can’t wait to get started!

---

“What’s that chord?” “Why does all my music sound the same?” “How do I fix this voicing?” “I just can’t get it out of my head!” …sound familiar? You’ve probably hit a rut. Or maybe you’re just starting out. Either way, you want your music to sound new, exciting, and to come out exactly how you hear it in your head. Yes… you CAN learn to compose music, you CAN learn to be more creative, and you CAN learn to share your sound with the world.

Film music, classical, jazz… whatever your interest, all music comes from the same place, and by learning a handful of basic concepts, you can apply these to whatever style you’re trying to write. Learning to emulate another musician involves knowing what they’re doing. Learning to create a groundbreaking sound requires that you know what’s already been done, and how to achieve it. Step by step, we’ll work our way there.

We’ll learn how to write cool, interesting chord progressions, how to write beautiful melodies, and how to voice chords. We’ll learn how to control the mood of our music, from making it sound relaxed to adding tension wherever we want. Maybe you’re trying to write for an orchestra, or just a small band. By learning the basics, you can then easily break away from what’s been done and come up with something truly new… the goal of any aspiring composer!

Experienced Clarinet teacher of 7 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! Clarinet was the Primary instrument I studied while attending Ithaca College to receive my music education degree. I studied under Michael Galván whom is well recognized in the clarinet community. I have had two successful beginner students receive top chair placement in their respective high school and middle school bands.I believe that excellence is grown through practice and dedication.

About Michael
Michael A Tate graduated from the prestigious Music Education Program and Psychology Program at Ithaca College in 2012. Ithaca gave him the incredible opportunity to hone in on his musicianship and compositional skills. He was also able to discover a new medium of composition, film composition. Tate immediately fell in love with the art of writing music for film and was able to make his first musical debut on a film directed by Mike Blaney. In his time at Ithaca College, he composed scores for multiple films and continues to maintain an active composition career. Tate is currently finishing as a music teacher Brooklyn Scholars Charter School (BSCS) and Music Content Leader for National Heritage Academies (NHA) New York Branch. In the fall Tate will be returning to school to study the psychological benefits of music education for children
and adolescents, while teaching private lessons.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Clarinet Performance from FIU. I teach clarinet following the same principles I use in my piano method: Brain-Based Piano Method.

About Leidys
Hi, at the Miami Piano Studio we love to teach children as young as 3 years old and adults using our own method. The Brain-Based Piano Method is a Mindful and Comprehensive System to learn music and piano that incorporates the principles and practices used by the great masters of western music and the latest scientific findings on how we learn. Our method incorporates the now rediscovered art of Partimenti, a way to see and understand music that allows students to make music in real time (compose, improvise). We, my husband and I, started creating our method in 2012 when we could not find a comprehensive method conceived with today's parents and children needs in mind. We are proud to say that our method has proved to be fun, engaging, effective and practical. our students learn from early on the basics of music: ear training, music theor
y, piano technique, reading and writing notes, improvization, composition, and more. For us creativity is first. We constantly encourage our students to be creative from the very beginning. Our method is a complete system for learning the piano that includes books, rewards, teaching materials, musical story books, recordings and video tutorials accessible online. When you Join us, you will become part of a creative and dynamic studio! You will learn how to see the connections present in music and to transfer all that knowledge to other aspects of your lives. I hope to meet you soon to start a very exciting musical learning journey!

My daughter loves going to piano class, and asks when she is going back. I am amazed by the things that she has learned so quickly, and in such a short period of time. Each class introduces her to something new, or allows her to strengthen her skills in a new way. This method of teaching piano is so innovative because my daughter has learned how to play the right and left hand of a musical score with clapping and body movements. She has also learned to conduct, play with 5 fingers, and sing songs. All of this, and she has only had 4 classes. The connection to math and reading are amazing, and are evident during each moment. Highly recommended.

I am working on basics/fundamentals that is the first thing the student has to be awar of when learning the instrument.Help to go through orchestra repertoire, solo performances, chamber music.
I have very individual approache with each student that helps student to become a quick learner, indurceing student's selfestime, since "one size fits all" is not my believes.

About Evgeny
Hello everyone,
My name is Evgeny Taimanov and I am a clarinet teacher at Carnegie Mellon University, as well, as associate member with Columbus Symphony Orchestra(OH).
I maintain my private studio at home and help my students to achieve their goals, going through auditioning process and getting the highly expected results as a reward of hard working combined with my instructions.
To be successful you need a strategy and I am the one who will help you to build the one and guide you through it.
My teaching philosophy is simple- the teacher is your friend who tells you the things as they are, and provides solutions that simplify the tusks making them part of fun to resolve.

Want to develop a beautiful clarinet sound while avoiding awkward squawks and squeaks? As both a saxophone and clarinet player, I can help with many of the technical challenges that may affect a beginning or intermediate player. My curriculum focuses heavily on the Cyril Rose studies for clarinet, as well as the Rubank Advanced Method.

About Andrew
I have been an active professional musician in the Utah Valley for the past 4 years. I came to Utah from Portland, Oregon in 2011 to study at Brigham Young University under Ray Smith, where I earned a BM in Saxophone Performance in 2018. While there, I performed as a member of the BYU Synthesis Big Band as a performer and featured soloist, sharing the stage with the likes of Gladys Knight, Peter Hollens, Konrad Herwig, Ed Calle, Corey Christianson and others. In 2016 I went with Synthesis on a tour of Eastern Europe, where the band and I performed at the Salkrastu Jazz Festival. I can be heard as a featured soloist on the tracks “Laura” and “Downtime” from the BYU Synthesis Album “Downtime” (2018). On the classical side, I was selected as a finalist three years in a row for the BYU Concerto Competition, played tenor saxophone from 2015 to
2017 in the BYU Wind Symphony, and played principal clarinet in the BYU Symphony orchestra in 2018.

In addition to my performances at BYU, I have performed and collaborated with numerous groups and artists on the Provo and Salt Lake music scenes as both a commercial and studio artist, such as my collaboration with Utah-based vocalist Emily Merrell in her performance at the 2018 Jazz Education Network Conference in Dallas, Texas. I also returned to the northwest in 2015 to take part in the Port Townsend Jazz Festival, where I studied with jazz greats such as Terrell Stafford, Steve Wilson, Bob Mintzer and others.

I am a passionate teacher and am happy to take students of all levels, over Skype or in person.

I've been teaching private music lessons for nearly 30 years. I taught public school music (beginning band) and then spent 10 years at a university training future music teachers. I run an active studio, direct music at a church and perform regularly. I have a PhD in education with an emphasis in music.

About Phil
I've been a professional musician and music teacher for nearly 30 years. I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in music and PhD in education, with an emphasis in music. I've taught students from the ages of 5 to 72.

I've had a successful performing career and have played twice at Carnegie Hall and in the National Conservatory of Music in Ecuador, just to name a few venues. I have recorded music, won song-writing competitions, and have had music published. While I still actively direct music at a thriving church, my passion is in teaching others the love of music.

I believe in teaching and focussing on the fundamentals of music, as it is often overlooked by many teachers. Once the basic skills are learned, musicians can apply the same skill sets to other literature.

I look forward to helping you develop your talent.
