I would highly recommend Tony Mitri as a voice and music instructor. My son takes lessons with Mr. Mitri and his progress has been astounding! He studies with other teachers previously without much success. My son has said he has learned more from Mr. Mitri than all of his previous instructors. He enjoys the lessons so he works harder at making progress and it shows. He helped him expand his range substantially, and increase his confidence. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in music of any kind. Mr.Mitri is awesome professional, patient and extremely knowledgeable. You won’t be disappointed.

I am a beginning Tenor Sax student and a senior citizen. I have played other instruments years ago, but never a woodwind instrument. Ian has been a marvelous instructor for me. Although I had never picked up a sax until December 2014, he already has taught me how to play several simple tunes and a number of scales. His patience and sensitivity to the appropriate pace is impecable. He also keeps me informed of other activities - concerts, recordings, community events to reinforce my interest. I would recommend Ian as a music teacher to anyone without reservation or hesitation.

The saxophone music instruction will consist of every area covered in college and professional auditions: Song Performance, Music Theory, Sightreading, and Scales. My 20+ years experience as a military musician and music director will help you in any areas of weakness, in all styles of music and performance scenarios, and give you guidance to showcase your current strengths to become a confident and well-rounded musician.

About Matt
With most of my music students, we focus on several key areas to ensure success of overall technique and knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHT-READING, and PREPARED SONGS. I tailor my approach and style to each student. Although I'm very detail-oriented with lessons and followup, I'm constantly in search of finding FUN ways to make sure the student is enjoying the journey. I also prefer to work on a song that the STUDENT wants to learn. It's music, and it should be fun!

Please review the rest of my profile and send me any questions or concerns you may have. If I don't think I can be the best teacher for you, I will gladly refer you to someone else on Takelessons or elsewhere.

I've been a lifelong musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before,
and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My professional experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me an open-minded yet direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW to develop each student's individual skills. I'm able to teach most students to an advanced level.

I have played saxophone for 7 years, and have taught saxophone student's as a P.A.L.S. teacher at the Aspen Music Summer Festival. I enjoy teaching everything from beginning fundamentals to jazz and improvisation.

About Josh
I am an avid clarinetist, energetic performer and enthusiastic teacher. My dream career is to be a soloist like Martin Frost, to play in an orchestra, or compose and perform my music.
My passion for teaching is similar to my passion for performing, and I have experience teaching privately since 2013 and in front of large groups, as a staff member for a high school marching band.
My teaching style is all about fundamentals as I try and break down the things you need to know about playing into easy to understand fundamentals that can be applied to all future playing.

Easy-going demeanor, very positive with his feedback yet still gets his point across when my son is not doing something correctly. He is teaching him not just how to play the music but also how to improve his style and structure of play. We picked a good one!

In our lessons students can expect to learn the ergonomics of playing comfortably and healthily as a foundation while starting out with reading music, basic music theory, and melodies. From there we learn how to embellish those melodies with other notes and start our way into harmony where we learn how and why music is structured the way that it is in real-world terms. This leads us into the history of how songs and pieces were written and we explore all of the possibilities of the instrument as we gradually get into more and more challenging pieces. Students then begin to write their own songs based on the concepts that they've learned. All of this happens at the students' own pace until they're comfortable enough to move on to the next challenge. Your musical journey is your own and will be done on your terms with a little friendly guidance.

About Jon
University-trained composer, performer, and educator, Mr. Gruver has been playing music in Philadelphia since 2009 and was the music department chair at the Philadelphia Community Arts Network from 2012-2016. Drawing on his professional education and real-world experiences, his personalized approach to teaching is rooted in classical pedagogy that is modified to meet the needs of our ever-changing world. Operating under philosophy that no one is born with the ability to play an instrument, but becomes great through hard work and the proper guidance, he teaches people of all ages and skill levels to help students achieve their full potential.

My goal in making music is to strive for originality, while using the vast amount of theoretical and technical knowledge that I have acquired over the years to create an understanding of what is actually happening. I know what it takes to be successful in the music industry, and can lead the student into whatever field they may have interest in. I have been extensively trained in both the jazz and classical idioms, and my style of instruction shows the student how to start teaching him/ herself to improve in the long run.

My focus in teaching music is to make students aware of how their instrument should be used as well as supplement them with what is needed in order to become a proficient musician overall. I have the ability to play many different instruments and encourage my students to understand the piano in order to illustrate points. I have the ability to transcribe and notate music on hearing it and can teach a student to play any tune desired.

About Anthony
I was born in Port Jefferson, New York in April of 1988 and received my first toy guitar when I was two years old. After subsequent years of piqued interest in anything that made sound, I moved to my uncle's house in Florida where I took informal piano lessons from a cousin at age 8. I found my musical voice when taking up the alto saxophone in middle school band at age 12, teaching myself to play and write along the way. In high school I began taking saxophone lessons with a local college student, and proceeded to participate in several County- and State-wide ensembles. My academic background now includes study with Dr. George Weremchuk, Robert Thornton, Richard Drexler & Jeff Rupert at UCF and then with Neal Bonsanti & Mike Brignola at FAU, graduating on scholarship with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music in 2011. I received my graduate degre
e in Music Composition in 2016, providing graduate teaching assistantship at USF under direction of Chuck Owen and Jack Wilkins.

I have performed locally alongside such amazing artists as Lou Donaldson, Rufus Reid, Steve Houghton, Maria Schneider, Diane Schuur, Kevin Mahogany, Ricardo Pons, Donny McCaslin, Charlie Young, Dolores King Williams, Bob Marley's Original Wailers, Ingrid Jensen, Donny McCaslin and Wayne Bergeron, and frequent as a sideman in local bands and jam sessions. I have been featured with numerous Big Bands across Florida, including the UCF, FAU & USF Big Bands, the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra, the "Jazz Ratz", the Bobby Rodriguez Orchestra, the Jazz Legacy Big Band, Jerry Fischer Big Band, Jack Martino group & the Wally Schneider Big Band. Over the last 10 years I have toured the east coast of the United States with various groups of contrasting styles. My 15 year teaching experience includes a wide range of music styles, settings, age groups, and levels of musicianship, focusing on the elements of Music that are universal to all instruments, cultures and genres.

I now reside in Richmond, Virginia pursuing a Master of Music Education at VCU, and continue to expand my creative abilities through such related fields as production, arranging, poetry, songwriting, education and the important impact of a healthy lifestyle.
