Private Flute Teacher

Heidi S. is one of the most popular teachers at TakeLessons and has spent her life studying Classical music and teaching and performing on flute and piano. As a veteran TakeLessons teacher, she has accumulated over 65 student reviews. She loves sharing her vast knowledge of Classical music with others. She believes music is fun, educational, and inspirational, and that it can bring joy and peace to your soul. She focuses her lessons on learning to play classical music with heart. She says, "Playing music gives your heart a voice. Let your heart sing through the music. I think of myself as a professional teacher. Even after 30 years, I still enjoy the excitement and challenge new students bring. I love to inspire and my attitude about music is contagious. My students and their parents say I have unlimited patience. I am very flexible in my teaching style and cater to the needs of my students by writing arrangements of songs they want to play."

About Heidi

Heidi spends most of her time in Guatemala teaching music to missionary kids and children orphanages, but she continues to accept new, online flute and piano students. She has students in 10 different states and across the world, including Guatemala and India. Heidi's been teaching flute and piano since 1980. She has taught flute at New Mexico State University, and at the University of North Texas and Baylor University as a graduate student. For six years she was the Advertising Editor for the National Flute Association's "Flutist Quarterly." She founded the Albuquerque Flute Association with her flute teacher, Frank Bowen in 1984. She completed all but her dissertation at the University of North Texas for a Doctorate of Musical Arts in flute performance. She arranges music for her students and for flute choir. She owns five auxil

iary flutes-an Eb flute, a piccolo, a bass flute, two alto flutes, and plays on a handmade Brannen-Cooper flute. She has had articles published in "Flute Talk" and "Emerson Flute Forum." Heidi is delighted to share her vast knowledge of music with her students.

My daughter has been taking flute lessons from Heidi for the past 4months now and I have seen tremendous improvement in her. Heidi has a fantastic knowledge of flute. She super nice, very patient, fun and very encouraging which is key component for kids to continue to learn any instrument they are passionate about. When we started first, my daughter was asked what her goals are and she has been teaching based on that. All her lessons are thorough and everything is documented on skype for future reference. My daughter loves Heidi and she looks forward to her class every single time. I’m lucky to have a teacher like her for my daughter and I would highly recommend her.

Private Flute Teacher

Instruction for fundamentals and techniques of flute as a primary instrument (or doubling instrument) in both classical and jazz styles.

About Stephanie

Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two prof

essions, whereby one feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students' strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of saxophone/flute/clarinet/piano.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play their instrument. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

I'm an older student (old actually) who started piano 2 years ago with Stephanie . She is great for a beginning student. Knows how to teach. Is encouraging, but demanding enough to keep me on my toes. Just wonderful and a thoroughly lovely person.

Stephanie is a patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic educator and collaborator who loves to perform and teach. I had the honor of working with her for nearly four years while we pursued similar degrees at New Mexico State University. She consistently brought a level of maturity and preparedness beyond her age to our rehearsals and practices. If I was limited to only one word to describe her, it would be "professional".

Private Flute Teacher

I have been playing flute professionally for over six years. My first performance was a production of "Chicago," and it opened up opportunities to play multiple woodwinds in all kinds of contexts.
I am excited to share my passion for this beautiful instrument!

About Michael

I am a woodwind specialist with a degree in saxophone performance from the University of Arizona. I have been performing and competing since the fifth grade. Since arriving in Tucson in 2010, I have performed with dozens of groups, perhaps most notably the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. I play a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, musical theater, rock, funk and avant garde. Music has provided me the opportunity to travel all over the world, from London to China and Mexico to Peru.
I opened my private lesson studio in 2012. Since then, I have cultivated a deep passion for creating personalized lessons for motivated students. Lessons revolve around strong fundamentals, but feature fun and engaging activities such as games, transcriptions of pop tunes (or any genre), active listening and discussion, free and guided improvisati

on and anything else that inspires each individual student. I have taught beginners as young as eight years old to advanced players well into their retirement.
I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with you!

When my 11 year old son first began saxophone lessons with Michael Weiss, he was a true beginner but within 5 months, he was playing a song at a recital! Michael is patient and kind but firm in his direction and has instilled confidence in my son that he can play whatever songs he wants to play with focus and practice. Michael is flexible and adept at tailoring his lessons to the individual's needs. I highly recommend him.

I vary students’ lessons with their interests and find the best teaching methods and practices to fit their needs. Because I believe everyone is different and unique. No one can stop you on learning anything but yourself. Therefore, I want students to focus on every lesson and have to practice outside of class which are required and important. Playing music is fun but learning takes time!!

What I really like about him, besides that he is very knowledgable and amazingly talented, is that he always has a positive attitude!
