I teach and perform styles ranging from classical and Jazz to country, classic rock and even metal. I enjoy teaching all styles and ability levels.

About Jon
I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped. While doing this I attended The College of Mount St. Joseph where I studied Classical and Jazz guitar as well as Music Ed. In addition to my 22 years of private lesson experience, I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching general music in elementary schools. I believe it is my years as a student and instructor that enable me to be an effective teacher, having had learned what worked for me as a student, and what has shown to work as a teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I cater my lesson to the individual. I like for students to have
a structured practice routine and working knowledge of music and their instrument, but it has to be fun. I have students who learn Classical, rock, and Jazz. Each lesson is different. Some people just want to be able to play their favorite songs by a camp fire, and others want to go on to perform at Carnegie Hall. I enjoy teaching both lessons and put forth the same enthusiasm for each one. You get out of the guitar or bass what you put into it in terms of learning and practicing. The level of achievement is up to you, I will help guide you to meet your goals regardless of how large or small they are.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Spare music room: guitars, amps, bass; computer with recording software, ProTools seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all the equipment necessary. I would like the student to have an instrument, but if not I can provide one for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I'm really pretty versatile. Over 18 years of teaching anywhere from 80 to 100 students a week will do that.

I have been teaching guitar for the last 7 years. Originally a classical trained pianist I became the leader of an ensemble which included several guitarists. If order to lead them I had to learn how they think. So I bought a guitar and started learning from them. My method of teaching combines my classical background from the piano with styles used in playing with the ensemble. Most guitarists don't read music but my students learn to read music from the very beginning. Music theory is one of my strengths and I pass that on to my students.

About Margaret
I have taught the piano along with guitar and voice for over 40 years, since I was 16 years old. I started lessons at 9 and continued lessons while I began teaching beginners at a music studio. Since then I have had many different experiences with all kinds of students. I love sharing the gift of music with my students. My goal is to give them a wonderful musical experience and allow them to expand their knowledge of music in a structured manner and can grow to become a casual or professional musician.

*** Lesson Details ***
I adjust my teaching style to the students goals. I like to say I am laid back but do expect progress each week. I can teach the piano for beginner to advanced students. Some students are college bound and need to learn the disciplines of music. Other students just want to learn to play for enjoyment. My main g
oal to to keep them interested and practicing. I use a composite of different methods depending on the students goals. I have found that each publisher of method books focus on different styles of music. Over the years I have picked the best of each one and we will use the best of the best. I also have edited music for students over the years and have a wide collection of supplemental music. As an example I love Disney music and a beginner after 3 months they will be learning "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. I can teach beginning Guitar students. My specialty is teaching to read "real" music as opposed to tab. Beginners need lots of TLC with the guitar because of the length of time it takes to make "good" sounds of the guitar. Learning good technique in a fun way is essential for good student progress.

Also I can teach beginning-intermediate vocal lessons. My main focus is developing proper vocal technique with vocal exercises and breathing techniques and still making it interesting and fun.
With all of this, i also teach music theory. Whether by itself or along with instrumental lessons, music theory is an essential for all musicians. Music theory is the how and why of everything we do in music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a baby grand, a spinet piano, 16 track sequencer, performance digital piano, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, flute, music stands and keyboard stands.

*** Specialties ***
For the piano I use a mixed method of teaching depending on the students goals. I have used Schaum, Faber, Alfred, Thompson and Bastien. I also use Hannon for advanced students and Duvornoy, Alfred and other types of pedagogy for technique and exercises. I have also edited many pieces of music for early beginners to have fun with. Disney is my favorite. I use these supplemental pieces along with the method books to keep their interest in practicing.

One of the most important duties of a competent instructor is teaching students how to practice. This is just as true for the rank beginner as it is for the advanced student, or even professional. Everyone can learn to play music and play it well if given competent instruction. Learning to play well is learning about the mind and body, and how to use it to one's potential. As the awareness of the self is refined, not only is the playing improved, but the potential for greatness is elevated. Lea

system begins by building a musical foundation from learning scales, chords, picking and strumming techniques, use of arpeggios, and basic music theory which is taught by learning actual songs chosen by the student incorporating each of the different techniques described above. By learning actual songs the student gains much greater confidence more quickly than by just learning rote exercises.

Then begins the journey of playing lead guitar and improvising.

About John
I started playing music at the age of 12. By 16 years old I started in my first working band as well as began my love for teaching guitar to others. Most of my musical career has been spent playing in 2 of the local cover bands in the Philadelphia area.

Teaching has always been a great interest to me. I've developed a teaching system over the years which not only decreases the time in which the student actually starts playing songs but also develops the students own creative ideas on the instrument. While it is very enjoyable to learn and play others artist's material, learning to create and write your own original ideas I believe is equally as important.

Let me help you learn the guitar in an easy to comprehend and faster than you could imagine study. You will learn to play a simple strumming and chordal pattern of a song that you choose to learn with in the first 2 lessons. My goal is to customize your lessons to your learning style and musical preferences. I've played guitar for over 30 years in the studio and touring all over the US, Mexico, and Central America. I can teach you how to play with seemingly effortless technique, Understanding strumming and fingerpicking patterns, how to create unforgettable guitar parts, how to improvise solos, how to make your guitar sing, and bring thunderous energy into your playing venues! I look forward to speaking with you soon

About Shon
My Name is Shon M.

I was raised in a family that has a tradition of passing the art of music down from generation to generation. I began playing at age 5 and I play 5 instruments professionally and 15 instruments in all. I studied music at Morehead State University and Musician’s Institute. I've been a touring and studio musician since the age of 16. I have been teaching music for more than 35 years. Many of my alumni have gone on to become professional musicians and teachers themselves. My approach to music education is somewhat unique, although it is gaining popularity in the mainstream of music education. I view music more like a language, as opposed to what some have called more of a data entry approach. Don't get me wrong, reading music is important and I do it everyday, but your music lessons should be teaching you how to play a
n instrument, not spending the majority of your time in learning to read right out of the gate. Yes there basics you must learn, but when you were a child, you didn't learn to read as you spoke your first words. You were learning to speak your language long before your learned your ABC's. There are many musicians with little formal training who play an instrument so well you'd swear you can see smoke coming from their fingers. Let me tell you, they weren't born that way. They learned to speak the language of music. The fact is, it's so much easier to learn to read music, after you have a basic understanding of how to speak the language. So say good bye to the frustrations of banging you head against the wall with the complexities of reading music and wondering how much longer you're going to have to endure this ongoing torture before you learn to play something cool, and say hello to having fun while learning how to play an instrument and the songs and styles you want to play...

You may have studied music before and given up because it was too difficult. Please know that's not uncommon. But I’m here to tell you, there is a better way! So if you've ever wanted to learn to play an instrument or sing, there is no better time than now.

Shon is a gifted multi-instrumentalist. Who has toured with Janet Jackson and Bruce Springsteen and many other artists. That combined with countless hours of studio recordings in L.A. Studios as a bassist, and countless other studios around the country. Shon is the consummate professional. Not only does he bring years of real world experience to everything he does, but he is also personable and great to work with on a project or a live performance. He's studied with Abraham Laborel, John Pattucci, Victor Wooten, and even has a bass given to him by the man who assisted in creating "the pocket" in Toto the late Mike Porcaro. He is a close friend and I am consistently inspired when I get to play music with my brother. You won't be disappointed. An investment worthwhile.

A true "musician's musician," any student at any level will find great benefit from Shon's instruction, be it in guitar/bass (and other plucked instruments), piano/keyboards, drums, theory and composition or arranging. I specifically and intentionally approach teaching students guitar from a body-centric perspective, utilizing "Deep Listening" concepts. More than anything, though, I'm interested in catering to your individual needs as a student and musician. I'll do whatever I can do to support you in reaching your goal(s) with the guitar, and try to make the journey to reaching that goal as accessible and exciting as possible!

About Kelley
I've been formally studying music and playing instruments since my first guitar lesson at four years old, when my hands were still too small to play chords on the instrument. Since then, my passion for music has only grown - I've continued to study the guitar, as well as the upright bass, saxophone, and piano, and now hold a BA in Music and German from Hampshire College, as well as an MA in Music Composition from Mills College. I'm currently in the process of applying to PhD programs in Musicology for 2019.

I've been teaching for quite a few years now, and have found that it's another passion of mine. Helping others to learn their own language of music is one of the most emotionally rewarding experiences I've ever been lucky enough to have.

My lessons always start with a focus on listening, and then move outwardly to sounding and mu
sic-making. I'm happy to cater to each individual student's musical goals and needs - so whether you're interested in learning advanced music theory, just learning a few chords on the guitar so that you can play while you sing with friends, or anything in between, I'm more than happy to support you in doing so!

I aim to create as safe a space as possible for folks of all ages, abilities, genders, and identities to explore their musicality.

My lessons are tailored to the specific goals of the student and each lesson has its differences. However, a typical guitar lesson might entail the following: on your first lesson goals are set, this would include songs you would like to learn and play, as well as any technical and theoretical problems you would like to overcome. Next comes the development of an individualized plan on how to achieve those goals. The student then leaves with a clear understanding of specific tasks and a focused practice plan to prepare for the next lesson. It's important to remember that all lessons are presented with great clarity and simplicity so that the student stays engaged by having fun as they progress.

I tend to favor teaching a well-rounded course of genres while incorporating note-reading and tabs, but as always I will adapt my lessons to help you reach your goals. Whether it's classical, jazz, rock, folk, or whatever, I've got you covered.

Experienced music teacher of 10 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation.

About Abe
I've always had a love for music. I've been teaching music in the classroom and privately for 10 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music Education and am a Level 2 James Hill Ukulele Initiative certified teacher.

I'm a father 4, and have been married for 12 years.

I teach guitar, piano, bass, and singing, but my real passion is the ukulele. I believe it's the best instrument for beginners and can really stand well on it's own, unlike the traditional thought of ukulele being a toy.

When I teach, I put the student first and always make the students goals my own. I push for more, but always gently encourage to build off of successes to achieve mastery.

Learning an instrument can be a difficult task, and it takes time and dedication. It's also tremendously rewarding, and the most important thing that I want my students to gai
n is a fun experience improving and creating music.
