Hello! My name is Rachel, and I have been playing flute for 12 years. I am almost finished with my music education degree at the University of New Hampshire, where I was principal chair for the 2019-2020 season in their prestigious Wind Symphony. I believe that there is no one way to teach a student. I do not set expectations about what a student should or should not be able to do at any given moment; I instead meet every student where they are, figure out how best to help that student achieve what they want to achieve, and help them to grow as a player with guidance and positivity. I feel as if my strengths lie in teaching multiple concrete ways to improve technique, tone, and musicality, and each method is catered to each individual student. I teach with the methods of Marcel Moyse in mind, as he taught my previous teacher, Peggy Vagts.

I love music and want others to feel the same passion I have for music. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, acting as a universal language that provides a unique way of empathy and connection in our lives.
As a teacher, I like creating a personally tailored repertoire that challenges and explores that specific student's potential and strengths. I value progress and skill-building, but over all, I want my students to be happy and excited about whatever music we're working on!

I am a retired professor of music and my students have won various competitions at all levels. We will focus on developing proper technique, building good practice habits, and long term improvement.

He will teach you how to make your practice time more productive, alternate fingerings to play more in tune, techniques to make note transitions easier, how to prepare new reeds for playing.... and on and on.
I had not played for a very long time. Dr Wen got me from there to where I was playing in a University Wind Ensemble, a quartet, and a community band. He also knew exactly where my saxophone needed to be adjusted to make it play better.
Dr Wen was my instructor for approximately 7 years. I learned a tremendous amount from him. You can’t do any better than Dr Andy Wen. He’s outstanding!

I've played flute for 13 years and throughout that time have performed multiple times for various events, been involved in band, and have taken lessons.
I do not teach flute to children under 10 because of the way the instrument strains the neck and wrists on younger children. I do suggest a trial session to see if the child is big enough, but if not I would love to do recorder or piano lessons. These instruments will both prepare the child greatly for playing flute in the future..

Diane was great! I have played other musical instruments in the past, but never the flute. I told her I wanted to learn to play the flute in just 3 lessons. She didn't laugh and tell me that was impossible, but instead worked with me to achieve my goal! She was patient, thoughtful, great at pointing out little things that instantly improved my playing. She even went above and beyond by emailing me a link to a video tutorial. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn to play the flute."
