- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I have been taking private flute lessons for over 12 years and have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies. I recently began teaching my own private lessons a little over a year ago, and since then I have learned a lot about helping students progress quickly and efficiently.
Each lesson will begin with a duet so that I can evaluate the student's progress since their last lesson. We will then discuss their practicing and what the student believes is working for them and what they are struggling with. I can then address any issues or concerns that they have throughout the lesson.
Students will be asked to study technical and tonal exercises as well as repertoire. I will help the student choose pieces that are at a good level for them and that they will enjoy working on.
If the student is studying flute in their school, they can choose to continue working on the same material and use their lesson as extra help for lesson books or NYSSMA solos, or to work on other repertoire.

Leanna is available for in-studio and online lessons and loves to teach students of all ages. She has been playing the flute for 14 years and is eager to share her knowledge and expertise of the instrument! Leanna grew up in a learning environment, as both her parents are teachers. Her mother teaches music in her hometown, so Leanna had the fortune of observing and listening to her mother give countless private lessons in their home. If you do not see an available time on her schedule that works for you, please feel free to contact her with the time that you prefer!
Leanna is currently in her first year of her master's degree in flute performance at Northwestern University. She has participated in many masterclasses with artists such as Denis Bouriakov, Emmanuel Pahud, and Gary Schocker. She currently performs with the Eugene Ballet Company and with her quintet. Leanna is excited to meet new students and help them create a plan for their success!
I teach the non-major flutists at Northwestern University. This includes anyone who would like to study the flute and is enrolled in another program.
I am a BOCES certified substitute for the capital region in New York State. As a certified substitute, I can sub for teachers in grades K-12. This has given me a lot of experience working with students of all ages and in all subjects!
