I have been lucky enough to have been trained by some of the world's most renowned flute performers and teachers, and love to pass on their and my own knowledge to new generations of flute players. About Hallie
Hello there! Do you or your loved ones have an interest in music? So do I! That is why I am here to teach and share my own passion for music. I love working with children and have two boys of my own. I love teaching music and instil passion for learning into every one of my students.

Having grown up in a musical family with my mother a professional violinist, I have been exposed to the joys of music since childhood. I learned how to play Suzuki piano at the age of three, and later percussion and string instruments from when I was six years old. In high school I joined the band playing flute. I loved playing flute and piccolo so much that I decided to take this as my career and went to Interlochen Arts Academy where I excelled in my performance. I later went to Prague Conservatory and Czech Budweiss Conservatory and played with the
Prague Film Orchestra. Even more recently I have been a teacher for the Flutes and Strings classes at Unison World School in Dehradun, India.

I have enjoyed having a very successful studio here in Tampa, and hope to enrich your life with music soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes music stands, sheet music, whiteboard, video recording equipment and microphone, and seating for parents/students. No pets. Parking in driveway. Siblings are welcome.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide metronome, and tools for minor instrument repair. Students should provide their own music stands and sheet music.

My son has been taking violin lessons with Hallie for almost one year. He started just after he turned 4. My concern when he started was that he was too young but Hallie has obviously taught kids his age before and knows what she is doing. She is creative in order to keep a four year old interested and engaged. She is also warm and positive. Most importantly, he's really learning how to play and about music in general - it is a wonderful feeling when he makes strides and does something that seemed so out-of-reach before.

Hallie is an extremely good teacher and is very, very kind. Although she misses nothing in terms of mistakes and weak areas, she always focuses on the positive and uses positive reinforcement to get the most out of the student. She makes very efficient use of lesson time and knows how to isolate any issues that come up. My child is a teenager and she connects very well with him. He has some ongoing issues with his form and she is so good about gently reminding him in such a way that he wants to improve and doesn't feel criticized. I'd highly recommend her. She's a very nice person and great teacher. So glad I found her.

This was our first lesson with Hallie. But she was very engaging, encouraging and asked all the questions that I could possibly hope a teacher/tutor would ask to get an idea of where the student is to make an action plan.

To date, the group has commissioned over fifty pieces.

Roberta holds a Bachelor of Music with highest honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Music from SUNY-Purchase College, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the City University of New York Graduate Center. Her teachers include Robert Dick, Tara H
elen O’Connor, Alexa Still, and Jean Rosenblum. Roberta resides in Brooklyn, New York where she teaches privately and is on faculty at Great Neck Music Conservatory.

I've taken three lessons with Roberta so far, and it's been awesome! I've played flute in middle and high school, but after taking a break through college I thought it'd be good to pick it back up as a hobby in the city. I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

About Kareem
A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem K is a performer, composer, and educator, who is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.

Growing up in the northwest with its vibrant music scene allowed Kareem the opportunity to study with, listen to and perform with world class jazz artists residing in the area. Artists such as Tracy Knoop, Jay Thomas, Don Lanphere, Bill Ramsay, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester and many others had a large impact on Kareem early in his musical education. This direction and guidance continues to inspire and lead Kareem as he continues his lifelong passion undertaking a career as a professional musician.

Today, as a performing artist he spends most of his time leading his group for which he composes and arranges most of the music. The band is constantly on the move as a sought af
ter performing group and spends most of its time performing in and around the Pacific Northwest. When not leading his own group Kareem can be seen and heard performing as a sideman with many other top notch musical acts and projects, most notably The Paperboys from Vancouver BC.

As an educator Kareem divides his time teaching jazz improvisation as an artist in residence at The Tacoma School of the Arts, directing the award winning student jazz ensemble at Pierce College, conducting masterclasses and workshops at schools around the Puget Sound area, and maintaining a full load of private students. Along with his teaching duties Kareem is the director or The Tacoma Jazz Association, serves on the Tacoma Arts Commission, and is a D'Addario Woodwinds performing artist.

Kareem holds a Bachelors Degree of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington which he attended after receiving a full scholarship.

Throughout his years of teaching Kareem has worked with students of all ages and abilities, from beginners just getting started, to advanced players who simply want new ideas and direction.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are relaxed and are focused on what you would like to learn.

I usually begin with assessing where students are in their abilities and then come up with a lesson plan based on what they already know and what they would like to accomplish.
They can be geared towards a 5 year old with no musical training whatsoever, or to an advanced musician who wants to further develop their skills.

Topics that I cover in lessons throughout a typical day of teaching include: Instrument technique, sight reading skills ( note and rhythm recognition ), memorization skills, music theory, ear training, improvising, and composing.

After 3 to 6 months of lessons and regular practice a beginning student should have a good command of their instrument and a strong foundation of sight reading. At this point we normally will also have started some music theory as well. For students wanting to focus on jazz we will have already begun improvising as well.

I focus on the basics of learning to read music and basic technique on the instruments that I teach. From there I proceed with theory, ear training, improvising, composition etc. It all depends on what the students want to learn. My daughter absolutely loves Mr. K!! He is very patient and takes his time to always answer ANY questions she has. She loves taking piano due to him being so awesome!! If you are looking for a great teacher for your little one there is no need to look any further!!

Kareem has been teaching me since I was in the fourth grade. I am currently in 8th grade, and man what can I say, he's as good as it gets! After two years I was in my middle school jazz band, which is not easy for a person who has only been playing for two years. You, yourself will be able to see extreme progress within just a few lessons! You must know Kareem teaches at Pierce College, a class at the Tacoma School of the Arts (which I hopefully will be attending and taking his class), teaches numerous private students every week, and lastly he performs with a stellar jazz band of his own! He is extremely dedicated to the musical field. If I were anybody reading this review and wanted to start playing any of the variety of instruments he plays, I would call Kareem K.!

Kareem is a dedicated and diligent musician and teacher. He is able to share his love of music with students of all ages. Not only is he extremely capable of teaching students the technical aspects of music, but his lessons incorporate a wider perspective as well, such as, listening to different genres of music and asking his students to discuss what they hear. He is always positive and encourages students to do their best. He has style and class and it is a privilege that two of my children can study under his tutelage.

My daughter has had only two lessons with Simona but the benefit is easy to see. There is a passion for excellence that is being instilled but keeping the lessons fun. This is hard to accomplish but Simona is doing it. She has been very cooperative and helpful in scheduling lessons. It has been a pleasure so far and I look forward to great reviews in the future. Hello! My name is Steph and I would love to teach beginner students who are just starting out and intermediate flute players who want to get better at fundamentals: tone, technique, vibrato, articulation, etc. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Music, where I focused on flute performance. I had Stephanie as a tutor in music theory all the way through my theory classes in college, and she is a great help. She is very friendly and extremely patient, and helped me come out of my shell and feel comfortable in my theory classes. I cannot stress enough what a wonderful bright person she is, and how great she is at what she does! She is an extremely intelligent and qualified instructor, as well as being a brilliant flutist.

I have been playing different instruments and singing since I was little, and I finally wanted to take a crack at the flute! Steph is a WONDERFUL teacher, she is dedicated and kind. She can found techniques that work for me and my tone improved a lot. I learned a lot from her and I have found a new hobbie. She is also a very good theory teacher and is good at explaining the concepts. I would recommend her to anyone!

The flute is one of the most beautiful instruments in an ensemble and often one of the most misunderstood. In lessons we would develop technique, tone, vibrato, range and musicality. The flute requires completely different technique than other wind instruments. It is important that an instructor understands this.

I am a certified teacher in Kansas. I have passed all background checks to be a public school teacher. I have 2 Bachelor Degrees, tuba performance and music education, from Wichita State University. I also have a Masters Degree from Sam Houston State University in Band Conducting.

I have been a public school band teacher for 5 years. I teach grades 5-12, as well as college level students, and college music education classes. My students have received top awards and positions in league, district, and state ensembles and performances.

I have experience in teaching band, orchestra, and choir. I take pride in having a well rounded education and a deep understanding of music education. I strive to be the best teacher for every one of my students.

I was homeschooled all of my life up to freshman year of high school. I knew how to play the drum set by teaching myself so I played along with songs and just did what felt right. I joined band freshman year under the direction of Jayme. I had never ever read any kind of music or rhythms or anything. By senior i had qualified for two 1's at state solos, a 1 for a state percussion trio, District Symphonic band, and colleges offering me scholarships.

Jayme was my band teacher for four years. I started out not able to play, or correctly sight read audition music for district band. One year later of her teaching and I made it into the SCKMEA District Band. Two years later I made it into the Kansas State 1234A Band two years in a row. I could never have accomplished making it into these bands and more without the help of Jayme. She is a great, caring person who really puts her all into music and you personally. I highly recommend working with her in her studio!

I offer 45-minute and 60-minute private flute lessons from my home in Cross Junction, VA. I've taught private flute lessons for the last 10 years and have worked with students of all ages--8 to 73! My students have gone on to win local and state-wide competitions and have been accepted to collegiate music programs.

Music lessons teach much more than music. In addition to music knowledge, I hope my students walk away from flute lessons with a sense of self-confidence, an inquisitive mind, and a joy for learning. My students and I work together to create fun and attainable goals while learning the importance of responsibility, punctuality, and self-motivation. Music lessons should be a safe and fun space for students to stretch their boundaries and be creative.

When my son Charles approached me asking to take flute lessons I was skeptical. Our family is not musical and I had no idea where to begin the search for a flute teacher! Fortunately, Katelyn was teaching a friend of Charlie at the time and allowed us to come in and observe the lesson before we jumped in to flute lessons. Her rapport with the students and the bond she works to build with them is amazing. Charlie learned so much more than the flute during his time with Katelyn--she encouraged his creativity in all aspects of his life and helped him build self-confidence during hard times. Charlie is no longer playing the flute but the things he learned with Katelyn continue to help him in his daily life.

Katelyn taught flute to my daughter Elizabeth through all of high school. She began in ninth grade and Katelyn helped her excel in her band program, at solo and ensemble festival, in all-state band and orchestra, and eventually in college auditions. Elizabeth is now a sophomore at Ohio State University where she majors in music education and we don't believe she could have done it without the gentle encouragement and support of Katelyn during her high school years!
