Clarinet is my primary instrument. I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.
Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

I am currently a principal clarinetist in Livingston NJ symphony orchestra. All my 40 years of band, symphony and opera orchestra experience and 30 years of teaching are available to my students. I've been teaching clarinet for 20 years and my students have gone on to the State level Band Auditions and won multiple times. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to make a decent sound, play scales, arpeggios and simple tunes, and as time goes on you'll be able to play popular tunes solo and with accompaniment of piano or band. I specialize in classical, jazz and klezmer style, typically use best published books, and have the renovated, quiet and spacious studio, music stands, audio equipment. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Students will learn proper techniques, posture, breathing, phrasing, articulation, tone, rhythm, sight reading, solfeggio, music theory, and music history. They will also learn to play solos (with and without accompaniment), as well as duets (along with the instructor).
Private lessons are customized to meet each student's goals, such as preparation for regional and state band auditions, concerts, and other music competitions.
Meet the Business Owner
Business Owner Dimitry Chernavsky is the Principal Clarinetist of the Livingston Symphony Orchestra, the Co-Principal of the Hanover Wind Symphony, and a member of the 'A La Mode' clarinet quartet.
Dimitry is a graduate of Kiev Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Performance and Education.
Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.
In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.
Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.
Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.

My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.
As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level.

adiness and ability. I teach weekly flute lessons as well as other woodwind instruments to students of all ages and ability levels (especially beginning and intermediate levels) I'm flexible with my schedule academic school year and summer months. I also teach all ranges of styles and repertoire
Tyreese is super patient and thoughtful in his instruction and fine-tuning. Couldn’t have asked for a better instructor after a 30 year hiatus from an instrument that is fast becoming so dear to me once more!

Very good, very clear, very patient. I can actually make a sound out of the clarinet.

The teacher was wonderful. But the platforms connection was poor. Really enjoyed the lesson.
Extremely helpful! We broke down a piece of music I had for class that I was having some trouble with and by the end of the hour I was much more comfortable playing it! What I really liked is that she pointed out things I would have not noticed that made the rhythms easier to understand. Great advice on HOW to practice and how to best approach a difficult part in your music.
I have taught beginning and intermediate clarinet lessons for the last twelve years. Whether you are just starting out or looking for a place in your high school wind ensemble, I can help you reach your goals and have a great time doing it!
After more than a decade of performing and teaching in Los Angeles, Eric now calls Seattle home. Since graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in Music, Eric has pursued professional jazz and music education with equal passion.
In addition to a robust private studio, in Los Angeles Eric was a jazz coach for the Downbeat Magazine award-winning band at Downey High School. Eric also taught for nine years with the elementary school band program, Children's Music Workshop.
My tailored approach to the individual needs of each student, problem solving of the most difficult issues involved with the clarinet and music combined with years of professional experience abroad are my hallmarks. If you are having problems with your embouchure, articulation, legato, breath control, air leak, reeds and phrasing then I am a teacher who will help you master these areas in a motivating environment. Bilingual with classes conducted in English or Spanish.
I am a musician, clarinet soloist, orchestral and chamber music performer and teacher, co-founding professor of clarinet and chamber music for El Sistema in Caracas, Venezuela. I was the principal & solo clarinet of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela for 35 years with decades of experience in teaching young adults, adolescents and children. I have developed techniques for achieving wonderful results and many of my former students have gone on to work as professionals abroad. Returning to NYC after so many years is exciting and I look forward to passing the torch of knowledge and musicianship on to the next generation of students. A number of my recordings can be easily found on the internet.
I had a fabulous studying experience with Mark. He knew everything about clarinet and explained everything in a clear and understandable way. What impressed me the most is his exquisite approach to the music in different genres and epochs. He will help you to develop your skills and improve your understanding of the music.

Excellent teacher and the lessons are a lot of fun.

Excellent teacher and person. I was his student throughout my university career, a very clear pedagogy with which he takes you to get your maximum abilities to play the clarinet. he knows perfectly the orchestral repertoire and how to interpret the great solos of clarinet, great connoisseur of the solistico repertoire and it takes you to its correct execution according to the time and the style of the works. very focused on their students with the main aspects of execution, sound, articulation and interpretation. 100% recommended.
I am a private music instructor specializing in woodwind instruments looking to take on clarinet, flute and saxophone students!
My lessons consist of a well balanced coverage of exercises (scales, note patterns, etudes, duets, major repertoire, etc) geared towards building a solid foundation in playing technique. This allows each student to be accurate and expressive with a sense of ease in their playing! Students of the studio are also thrown into the world of music! They are strongly encouraged to attend concerts, listen to music regularly, and attend masterclasses. The goal is not just to learn an instrument, but to also develop a life-long love and appreciation for music!
I am very proud to say that my students soar through their band and orchestra programs in school and obtain a sound quality/sense of musicality way beyond their grade level! The majority of my students excel past their school music programs! They join youth/honor bands and orchestras, chamber ...
I believe that everyone has the ability to enjoy and be expressive on an instrument. It is miss instruction and a lack of passion in music education that allows students to become frustrated and bored, ultimately pushing them to quit their instruments.
My goal as a music educator is not only to teach the mechanics of an instrument, but to also inspire a life-long passion for music. Therefore I make a point to encourage students to explore all the music there is to be had in their surrounding environment! This includes attending concerts, listening to great recordings and savoring all the music that our modern-day media has to offer! I am proud to say that the majority of my students develop a great interest in music, fueling them to push past their difficulties and achieve a high standard of musical performance!
With a mission in co
nstant musical exploration I teach a thorough curriculum of scales, exercises, duets and standard solo repertoire pieces. Surrounding all this is a foundation in music theory. This pedagogical study will enable a fun and easy experience when students pick up their instruments to perform music! In addition to this private study I strongly encourage my students to reach out for extra-curricular musical activities outside their school music programs. This includes pursuing honor bands/orchestras, chamber music, music competitions and effective musical examinations such as Certificate of Merit. I believe a constant setting and achieving of goals is the foundation of growth in anything we do and music is no exception.
I took one lesson from another teacher who was unreliable and fumbled around explaining things. After my first lesson with Carter I realized he knows his stuff and knows how teach. He’s a real teacher. I am excited now to learn . Thank you
I have over 10 years of teaching experience in the US and abroad. All ages and levels are welcome. I adapt lessons to each student's ability. You will learn how to produce good sound and interpretate music pieces, also will build a strong foundation of notes reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. Let's get started!
I have extensive experience playing as part of orchestras and ensembles and also pursued music pedagogy, and during my many years of teaching instrumental music, I was able to further develop my own skill as a performance musician. Furthermore, I had the privilege to lead two different orchestras as a conductor, I composed music for a theatrical production, and also recorded several albums including klezmer music, smooth jazz, musical poetry, and music for healing and meditation.
"Thank you for last two months clarinet lesson for Dorothy! He was very patient with my niece and focuses on the part that she is not familiar or good at.
It was good experience for her to learn new songs with Matt and got some confidence through the lesson!"
"Our son enjoyed his lesson with Matt and is looking forward to the next one."
"A wonderful clarinetist, musician, and teacher! She explains and demonstrates the physical and musical aspects of clarinet-playing clearly so that you can
build a solid foundation and progress rapidly. Very highly recommended!"
"He is very good."
"We love Tyra. She teaches in a selective high school for the arts, so is used to getting the best out of kids. And I love that she comes to our home!"
"I have really enjoyed the lessons I got from Mary and learned a ton! I hadn't played clarinet for years but enjoyed starting to learn again and she helped
make it a lot easier than just relearning on my own. I really recommend her as a teacher for any age student!"
"there are many clarinet players. Some are good, few can teach, and a minuscule amount are both. You have just found one of those few. This man has judged
at international competitions, and has incredible patience and memory. He has studied under an understudy of the founder of the american school of thought for clarinetists, and always knows what you need to know, even if you are only in 8th grade.
This is the one.
Benjamin Dutschmann, 14"
Kelly - Houston Symphonic Band
"Excellent clarinet instructor! One of David's main strengths is his ability to listen, and also to teach in a way that is meaningful, constructive, and e
asily understood. His lessons are engaging and productive. Highly recommended as a teacher!"
"Matt is great, he is teaching 3 of my kids! Clarinet, alto sax, and flute. Very patient with my daughters as they work through their new instruments. They
have progressed so much faster than the rest of their classmates, and discouragement has turned into excitement. They look forward to their weekly lessons."
