Phil is so wonderful. After I retired I wanted to learn to play the flute, so I signed up for 30 minutes. I signed for 30 because you never know if you and the instructor are going to get along. I discovered that while I was in session I did fairly well. But once home alone, I would end up in tears. I decided to go from learning the flute to learning the clarinet. I was afraid I would have to find another teacher, but no. Phil pulled out his clarinet and I have been happy ever since! He has a calm demeanor, never talks down to you, multi-talented and encourages you. I finally had to go from 30 minutes to an hour. I found I would have about 15 minutes of questions on symbols, word meanings, etc.; which only left me 15 minutes of actual music. So this may also be something to think about.

I have Alto and Tenor Saxophones, and can teach you to play and read, improvise, and how to make it sing

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching Guitars, Basses, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Music Production, Re
cording, and Live Sound for 16 years.

I can teach you note-reading, tabs, ear training, music theory, composition, improvisation in just about any style of music.

Working with people writing songs is something I enjoy thoroughly; I can help you write and record your own songs. A computer and internet access are preferred to take full advantage of the technology for learning and producing music.

Knowledgeable in Instrument repair, set-up, and maintenance, I can help you fix it, and how to spot a good instrument.

Patient and experienced, with a broad knowledge of music in most areas, I can give you hundreds of good references from previous students I've taught over the years

*** Studio Equipment ***

Guitars, basses, percussion and drum sets, a piano, saxophones, hand drums, a 20-track digital recording studio with monitors that are equalized to the room's acoustics for accurate listening and mixing, plus an assortment of microphones, amps, mic stands, cables, and connectors.

About Rachel
Hello everybody! I have a BA in Music and have been a freelance performer for many years. My teachers have held the highest degrees in their field and some are professional performers. I've played in many different types of groups including: marching bands, concert bands, orchestras, chamber groups, and pit orchestras for theatrical performances. While my primary instrument is clarinet, I can double on any woodwind that doesn't have a double reed on it. My teaching specialty is single reeds (clarinets and saxes), but I'll gladly take on flute players and double reed players. Not only is doubling fun and helps you get more work, it can help you pinpoint strengths and weaknesses with your primary instrument. It can also tell you whether or not your primary instrument will stay the same or will change over time (there's nothing wrong with ei
ther option!).

Please bring your own instrument to your lesson (surprisingly, I've found that this isn't self-explanatory). I don't have any to loan out at this time. If you need help picking out an instrument (and perhaps a mouthpiece), please contact me and I'd more than happy to help. Also, please bring reeds, any music that you have, a tuner, and a metronome. If you can't bring a tuner or metronome to your lessons, I will have mine, but please purchase them as soon as possible (or download an app as many are available), so you can practice with them. Solid rhythm and intonation are key, especially for the beginning student; they help to build a great foundation in which to expand your playing.

I'm not traveling at this time as I don't have access to a reliable vehicle, but I'm hoping that this changes fairly soon.

I hope that I can be your guide into this wonderful world! :)

I'm a senior citizen without a shred of innate musical talent. LOL The idea of being able to improvise the blues on a saxophone was a wild and unattainable fantasy….until I met Rick. I had already checked out lots of other jazz saxophone teachers online so I knew within the first few lessons that Rick was unique. He was able to simplify my problems and help me make great progress right away. With enthusiasm, this celebrated musician took me through all the baby steps - first to get a respectable sound, and then through his ingenious system of improvisation. I'm moving at what I would say is warp speed in learning to improvise, already reaching levels of soloing that were only in my dreams. But the real bonus on top of Rick's fantastic teaching method and system is Rick the man, and the relationship this star musician forms with a student. His humility amazes me at every lesson. Knowing how valuable his time must be, the fact that he encourages me to send recordings between lessons, and sends feedback on each one, is testament to how much he truly cares about a student's progress. It's a gift he generously gives. He is also a genius at how much criticism and how much encouragement a particular student needs. Could there possibly be a better teacher than Rick Rossi? I don't think so.

We will go through a method book to go through the fundamentals of playing sax and will supplement it with ear training and music theory. We will learn any song that you want to! From a TV show, video game, movie, or anything else as it is very important to have fun with what you are playing. We will play duets and have a great time while becoming a better musician!

About Matt
I attended West Chester University from 2011-2015 and graduated with my bachleor's in music education. I performed in the marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, jazz ensembles, various trumpet ensembles, and a brass quintet. I backed up various world famous trumpet artists during the International Trumpet Guild Conference at Valley Forge in 2014 such as Bobby Shew, Randy Brecker, Tine Thing Helseth, Canadian Brass, and many others. I took lessons from Robert Skoniczin and Jean Christophe Dobrzelewski during my time at WCU.

I can teach any style that you are interested in and can take students of all ages. I believe it is important to have a good musical foundation so we will go over music theory as well in lessons. I have extensive experie

Learning an instrument, like learning a language, should be an interactive experience with a continuous flow of feedback. It should also be fun, with the opportunity to use each new skill in real life and on a daily basis.

Over the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to study the saxophone (as well piano, composition, arranging, film scoring, and songwriting) with some of the most creative and talented teachers from Los Angeles, New York, and Portland, OR. Through my years of studying and teaching beginning and intermediate saxophonists, I believe it is the teacher's job to "teach the student how to teach themselves" by giving them the tools and critical feedback needed to excel not only in learning a new instrument, but in all aspects of music and life.

About Aaron
I am a professional saxophonist, composer, and songwriter with a particular passion in writing music for films and video games. Growing up near Portland, Oregon, I was surrounded by friends who were engrossed by jazz, classical, and rock music, and immediately wanted to be a part of it. Throughout high school, I had the opportunity to perform in New York City, Atlanta, and Monterey with the award-winning American Music Program, as well as record on numerous occasions with Grammy-award-winning artist Esperanza Spalding.

Since coming to live in Los Angeles, CA in 2013, I have been involved in both the jazz and pop music scenes as a performer and arranger, leading my own groups and music directing for others. I have also been involved in the film scene, composing the music for 16 short films, 5 independent video games, and a 3-episode
web series. (You can also see/hear me play a few notes in 2014's "Whiplash")

In my lessons, I am happy to cover everything from beginning techniques on the instrument, being able to improvise in any context or genre, and working in a recording studio setting.

I strongly believe in the values of listening, improvising (both in music and in life), and perceiving every instance and detail as a chance to learn. These are the values on which I base my teaching, as well as my own music.

I am a lover of all kinds of music, movies, video games, hiking, traveling, and Mexican food.

I provide high-quality, tailor-made saxophone instruction. I've been playing sax for more than 20 years, with a ton of professional experience in both live and studio performance. Some of my training/education and experience include:

B.A.: Music Performance

M.A.: Jazz Studies from California State University, Long Beach (Bob Cole Conservatory).

Studied with Eric Marienthal (Chic Corea, Rippingtons, and Peak Records Recording Artist).

My latest single, "Begin Again," was a radio success and made Billboard's Most Added List for the Smooth Jazz Chart

I've performed/recorded with Kirk Whalum (saxophonist on Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You"), Malcolm Jamal-Warner, DW3, among many others, as well as at Paisley Park (the late Prince's estate).

About Isaac
TEACHING STYLE: I provide positive, patient, professional instruction, customized to each individual student's levels and goals.

LEVELS: I teach all levels of students; beginner through advanced are all welcome. I teach all ages-- children (age 5+), teens and adults.

LOCATIONS: I teach in 3 locations: (1) my home in San Diego (92129), (2) in your home if you prefer (if your home is located within my travel radius), or (3) anywhere in the world via online saxophone lessons!

FOCUS: Lessons are customized based on the student's levels, musical preferences and goals. Beginning students will learn basic saxophone technique and fundamentals, sight reading (learning to read music), ear training and theory.

For students who have mastered the basics and are more advanced, lessons are focused on three main areas:

(1) Tone
development: A beautiful sound will set you apart.
(2) Technical facility: in order to be a great improviser, you need the technical facility to play what you hear in your head and I can help you get there.
(3) The jazz language, through rigorous transcription and a practical application of those concepts by soloing over chord progressions (blues, rhythm changes, etc.). Students will be able to immediately apply the concepts learned through transcription to real live performances and other contexts.

I also coach students as they prepare for auditions, such as high school or college bands, or for work as a professional musician.

MUSICAL STYLE: I am fluent in a variety of musical styles and customize musical repertoire based on my students' tastes and goals. Genres I specialize in include: straight ahead/traditional jazz, smooth jazz, classical, pop, funk, hip-hop, R & B, Gospel, contemporary Christian music, soul and much more.

Lessons are generally once per week and scheduled at a regular time. If you have different scheduling needs, please let me know and I will do my best to work with your schedule.

LESSON LENGTH: Beginning students typically start with 30 minute lessons; intermediate and advanced students usually opt for 60 minute lessons.

RESCHEDULING/CANCELLATIONS POLICY: please give me at least 24 hours notice if you would like to reschedule a lesson. Missed lessons with less than 24 hours notice will not be rescheduled. Exceptions: sudden illness (e.g., waking up that same morning with a fever) or sudden true emergency (e.g., severe accident or injury, etc.).

Some of my training/education and experience include:
