*** Lesson Details *** I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :) I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Darrell helped me a lot to get a handle on my Ableton rig. I needed to set up midi tracks, locate presets to create cool sounds from plugins. Then I needed to export the audio of a couple of those tracks to import into a separate Pro Tools project. Lot of progress, thanks Darrell! -- Frank S

Learning and teaching music is one of the most difficult situations, when it has to do with pedagogy and tuition. Truth is that Laurent Barbier, handles easily performing and teaching. I am extremely satisfied from his teaching, via Skype sessions, and i think his a quintessential teacher for my needs and suits very much to my character and mood. He's so patient to check a student's needs, and he's always willing to pass knowledge with generosity! He's guidance and my practicing of course, made a better player!
Hi there! I am a classically trained saxophonist with a Masters from Peabody Conservatory and over 16 years of teaching experience. I tailor my lessons based on your interests and skill level, finding pieces you enjoy which challenge you. I can also give you a strong sense of the fundamentals, focusing on intonation, finger technique, vibrato and tone. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Welcome to online saxophone lessons! While studying with me we will focus on practice techniques to develop your speed, vibrato and intonation (one of the most important aspects of a good sound!) For students in grade school, lessons can help your skills in band class and in participation in solo and ensemble. It is a great chance to perform works before doing an important audition! In my private teaching I have also focused on playing group pieces with my own arrangements of pop music, like Usher and Rihanna! I find it really enjoyable and it allows my students to challenge themselves while working in a different format than they are used to.
I learned classical saxophone at Peabody Conservatory in Maryland, where I have a bachelor's and master's degree. I performed in wind ensemble and quartets. Currently I play in the Capital Wind Sy
mphony in D.C., where we perform concert pieces for wind ensemble. I also teach at the Levine School of Music, which is very exciting since I studied there as a teenager! Thanks for your interest and I look forward to working with you!
Knowledgeable, professional and caring instructor.

My son who plays in high school honors band is taking alto sax lessons with Maureen for past few months. Maureen is an amazing teacher, very detail oriented focused. My son has learned advanced techniques and won few medals at state level with superior rating of 1. I would highly recommend Maureen, she is a fabulous saxophone teacher who is actively involved and renowned personality in music community with playing in many DC metro area concerts. My son enjoys every lesson and will be continuing to be her student in coming year.

We are on our third lesson. Great so far!!
Maureen is a fantastic teacher.
Sound is the key. Developing and nurturing a solid sound opens up all other aspects of music. Once we have a solid sound we can depend on everything we play is more effective. I teach basic musicianship along with advanced sound production techniques. Spontaneous creation and composition. I can help you freely improvise in any situation and become a functionary player as well as a soloist.
I have been playing the saxophone fro 45 years. I think its all about the sound, the tone. I played with the Microscopic Septet and William Parker's Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra.
Dave is a great teacher and I would recommend him to anyone who asks :)
He's flexible (in both scheduling and teaching) and adapts to whatever the student needs or wants.

Dave was my first saxophone teacher and I am still seeing his insights and working on his lessons almost 40 years later! He has a deep knowledge of Jazz and Blues and years of experience in a wide range of musical settings. Most importantly he personifies the joy of music making. A great teacher for students on all levels.

I'm a beginning saxophone player and have been working with Dave for a couple of months. Very patient and inspiring, I've been very happy with him.
I have studied with some of the greatest teachers of saxophone technique, including Joe Allard and Lee Konitz. I can teach the secrets of producing a great sound on the saxophone and flutes. I am able to also teach techniques for improving reading music, improvisation, and memorization of songs and materials. I have studied Jazz, pop, rock and classical styles and can teach my students the type of music that interests them.
I have spent my life making music for television commercials, movie scores and CDs by many of the great musicians of our time. I can prepare my students for recording studios, playing with a group, touring tips, and enjoying the benefits that playing music will bring to your life. Some of these benefits include teaching disipline, improved attention span, brain development which is unique to music performance and enjoying the experience of playing the flute or saxophone well. I like to teach my students the songs that they want to learn in addition to introducing them to many new types and styles of musical compositions.
Whether your goal is to prepare for college auditions, to improve your performance in band class, or to simply learn the ropes of this amazing instrument, I can help you get where you want to go using a combination of my personal performance experience, the Rubank method, and supplementary materials designed by Dr. Joseph d'Auguste.

"My son is currently taking online lessons with Lucas and we're both quite happy with the experience so far. My son has been playing tenor for 4 years (c
urrently 10th grade- in concert, jazz and marching bands at school) and had only ever taken live lessons before, but we're finding that online works out well. No extra travel time/hassle, which is great since he doesn't drive yet- just log online from our basement. Lucas had good availability and has been open to reschedule as necessary. Lucas has helped him with pieces for honor band auditions so far with specific feedback and even I can hear the difference in my son's playing."
"Excellent experience. Learned a great deal on the first day. Hoping to get fluent in playing this instrument."
"Online lessons are not the best method for me but I am grateful to be able to be taught by Lucas. I am learning a lot and as soon as I am able to put it a
ll into practise I will be happy. Bridging the gap between understanding and ability is hard. Looking forward to having more lessons."
"Ben is such a great teacher for Saxophone. Professional, be patient and nice. He will notice and correct details of kid's breath, mouth, shape of body and
even the finger type. My son is so happy to learn with him. And get repaid improvement even he is zero experience to start. Now my son is loving saxophone. And I am so happy we can have Ben as his teacher."
"Andrew has made taking saxophone lessons so much fun for my son. He is very dedicated to working with students at their level of ability and makes it fun
by including their own personal interests. For example he has worked with my son on several Star Wars themes and other songs that got my son interested in playing saxophone in the first place. We highly recommend Andrew. For reference my son is 14 and at a beginner level."
"my daughter loves her lessons with Ms Tammye!"
"I was very impressed with how Ryan engaged my son during his first lesson. He was able to make it fun and educational for him. I think what made a huge di
fference was his ability to hone in on what what kinds on music my son was interested in and some how work it in to the initial lesson plan. He showed him how much fun it could be and then was able to incorporate the basics from there. Also, he is extremely patient and laid back making it stress free. Thank you for a great lesson! We look forward to continuing more."
"Great first lesson!"
"Very knowledgeable and works well with what you know. Understands what the student needs and wants and will work towards achieving those goals."
“Is saxophone hard to learn?” Not exactly. The saxophone, like many instruments, is not difficult to begin playing. It can however, be challenging to master
Many people say that it’s easy to make a sound on the saxophone, but harder to make a good sound (at least, at first). But if you’re considering getting started with saxophone lessons - don’t be discouraged! Any self-disciplined student can progress in their saxophone skills by taking the right steps as a beginner.
