I can teach the following members of the saxophone family: alto, tenor, baritone and soprano. While the saxophone is predominately known for its use in jazz & big band it also has it's place in rock n roll as well. I can teach all of these styles. If you're interested in performing or playing professionally, I recommend learning all the saxophone types as it will be a great benefit to your career. Most beginners start out on alto.

I've been teaching Saxophone for 15 years and my students have gone on to College, and other performing goals.I use a variety of books from the typical book you would use as a student in a band program to a more advanced method for other players. Each student is different so I try to evolve to meet their specific needs and learning styles. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you! I plan and offer yearly student performances to give students a practical application to their instruction.
Throughout my professional career I have toured and played with bands such as Soul Fire, 3 Door Down, and others, and have performed for companies such as 4 County Players in Virginia, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and Carolina Players in NC. I play multiple instruments from woodwinds, brass, to guitar, mandolin, violin and have training in singing and vocal training and more!

I have been teaching Saxophone for quite a few years and I love it! My students have seen results from learning to lovey to practice, to competitive success in school events. When you first come you will start to think about music in a simpler way and will gain the confidence and understanding you need to play how you would like. Normally, I use The Rubank Method to develop a lot of technique in younger students. For those playing jazz, we do a lot of play alongs while focusing on specific concepts.

Learning an instrument, like learning a language, should be an interactive experience with a continuous flow of feedback. It should also be fun, with the opportunity to use each new skill in real life and on a daily basis.
Over the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to study the saxophone (as well piano, composition, arranging, film scoring, and songwriting) with some of the most creative and talented teachers from Los Angeles, New York, and Portland, OR. Through my years of studying and teaching beginning and intermediate saxophonists, I believe it is the teacher's job to "teach the student how to teach themselves" by giving them the tools and critical feedback needed to excel not only in learning a new instrument, but in all aspects of music and life.
Since coming to live in Los Angeles, CA in 2013, I have been involved in both the jazz and pop music scenes as a performer and arranger, leading my own groups and music directing for others. HOW TO BE ABLE TO APPLY YOUR SAXOPHONE PLAYING TO THE REAL WORLD! What I mean by this is that I teach a method of playing saxophone that allows the player to jump into any setting or genre of music right on the spot and instantly be able to play without even having to read music. Teaching is a life-giver for me--I enjoy introducing students to the joys of different musical ideas, concepts, and ways that they can advance on their instrument.
