About Scott

Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

Very personable and eager to share his love of music. He’s not looking to teach you “his way” but meeting you where you’re at and helping you get to where you want to go, musically.

My grandson said it was a great lesson. And he told his dad he had fun. I now know that I will either buy a keyboard or a piano so that he can continue his lessons and practice. Thanks for invoking this type of enthusiasm into my little guy. I hope this is the beginning of more to come.

Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.

Private Saxophone Teacher

Hi there! I am a classically trained saxophonist with a Masters from Peabody Conservatory and over 16 years of teaching experience. I tailor my lessons based on your interests and skill level, finding pieces you enjoy which challenge you. I can also give you a strong sense of the fundamentals, focusing on intonation, finger technique, vibrato and tone. Looking forward to hearing from you!

About Maureen

Welcome to online saxophone lessons! While studying with me we will focus on practice techniques to develop your speed, vibrato and intonation (one of the most important aspects of a good sound!) For students in grade school, lessons can help your skills in band class and in participation in solo and ensemble. It is a great chance to perform works before doing an important audition! In my private teaching I have also focused on playing group pieces with my own arrangements of pop music, like Usher and Rihanna! I find it really enjoyable and it allows my students to challenge themselves while working in a different format than they are used to.

I learned classical saxophone at Peabody Conservatory in Maryland, where I have a bachelor's and master's degree. I performed in wind ensemble and quartets. Currently I play in the Capital Wind Sy

mphony in D.C., where we perform concert pieces for wind ensemble. I also teach at the Levine School of Music, which is very exciting since I studied there as a teenager! Thanks for your interest and I look forward to working with you!

My son has learned advanced techniques and won few medals at state level with superior rating of 1. I would highly recommend Maureen, she is a fabulous saxophone teacher who is actively involved and renowned personality in music community with playing in many DC metro area concerts. My son enjoys every lesson and will be continuing to be her student in coming year.

I don't just teach. I instill values into my students to ensure that they achieve their goals. Thomas M. Sterner, a renowned philosopher and jazz pianist once wrote, "Everything in life worth achieving requires practice." I instill this philosophy into my students. I believe that it is something they can reflect on and use in any aspect of their life. I help my students learn to enjoy the process of development. I applaud them when they are doing well, showing how excited I am when they achieve a goal. Even the smallest amount of progress is still progress. I help my students understand this and enjoy this progress so that they can continue to work hard at becoming the best musician they can be.

About Avys

I am a saxophonist, composer, and music guide. I studied music and jazz at Clayton State University, as well as Georgia State University. I have been performing and teaching saxophone for several years.
I enjoy watching my students develop as musicians. Students will find that I'm just as excited to see them progress as they are! I encourage and motivate them to achieve the goals they have set, as well as give them the tools necessary to evaluate and exceed those goals. Students can expect to gain an appreciation for their personal growth and will enjoy the process as much as they will enjoy the end product.
My job is to be both a resource and guide throughout the student's process in learning saxophone. I will implement students with skills that will not only develop them as musicians but will develop them as individuals. Students wi

ll also discover that enjoying the process of learning music, including its successes and failures, is a trait that will help them succeed at any task!

My daughter enjoyed learning clarinet with Tyler. As another reviewer has noted, Tyler is a gentle and patient teacher. My daughter could be difficult during lessons and often got distracted, and Tyler was great at steering her back on track and engaging her through new music and exercises.

Tyler was the piano teacher for our two daughters for almost 5 years. They were piano beginners aged 4 and 6 when we started. My daughters are more on the shy side, and Tyler ended up being the perfect teacher for them. He is gentle and patient but at the same time got them excited about learning the instrument and playing music of different genres. My daughters enjoyed the lessons very much and they were sad to see Tyler leave for New York. I can highly recommend Tyler as a teacher especially for shy beginners like my daughters were.

My son's comment was that Tyler was the best music teacher he ever had and he has had a lot. He misses him a lot.

My philosophy on teaching revolves around the idea that on the foundation of instrumental technique and functional ear training, all other facets of music are made easier.
Developing instrumental technique teaches the student how to assess and target their weaknesses. This is necessary to make the process efficient. I work with students to create a plan so that they can develop quickly while practicing a reasonable amount. I know their lives are busy enough.
Functional ear training is a skill that not only makes playing music easier, but it also makes listening to music more enjoyable! This is a skill the student keeps for the rest of their lives, regardless of whether or not they continue to play their instrument as an adult.
For jazz music specifically, if the student wants to go down that road, I find it imperative to make sure the history of the music goes hand in hand with the craft of the music. The study of history gives greater context to the music we listen to, which ...

About Aidan

I'm a professional saxophonist, composer, and arranger. I graduated from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. In my life, I have been fortunate enough to study with jazz legends such as NEA Jazz Master Barry Harris, Gary Smulyan, Victor Lewis, Ralph Bowen, and Bill O'Connell.

My saxophone students should expect to work on mastering the fundamentals of the instrument, as it relates to embouchure and technique. We also will cover ear training every lesson, as the combination of these two elements will build the foundation for anything else the student wishes to learn in music.

My composition students should expect to work on traditional voiceleading and harmony, as well as how to arrange music for all varieties of ensembles. This includes everything from lead sheets to a full orc

hestra. Ear training is also essential for composers to translate what is in one's mind into a piece either in traditional notation, or realized electronically. I also teach composers how to work with the essential software of the industry, namely Sibelius or Finale, Ableton Live (including Max4Live), and Logic Pro.

All of my students will work on these foundations. From there, I work with my students to create a tangible system to organize their practice and goals so that we can work on more specific areas relevant to what they want out of their musical life. This system is extremely flexible and effective. I also encourage and assist my students to use this system in other areas of their lives, such as academics or sports. The skills needed for a high level of achievement are similar no matter the subject. The benefits of music education are praised often, but a direct approach to transferring those skills makes them far more tangible.

I teach students both in my own home or out of theirs, dependent on what works for the individual. I cover all styles of music both for performance and composition.

Lucas is excellent at giving instruction in understandable, and usable bites of information. The lessons are well paced and I can hear my son improve over the course of every lesson. The convenience of the online lesson cannot be overstated- we live in a rural area where finding an teacher and getting to a lesson was challenging to fit into our schedules, so it is amazing to have such great instruction on a schedule that fits in with our life. I would definitely recommend Lucas specifically, and the takelessons format to anyone looking for saxophone lessons."
