Saxophone:
A family of woodwind instruments, saxophones are usually made of brass and played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to that of the clarinet. Like the clarinet, saxophones have holes in the instrument which the player closes using a system of key mechanisms. When the player presses a key, this typically causes a pad to close over a hole. There is soprano, alto, tenor, bass and baritone saxophones. The great thing about learning saxophone is it is almost the same fingers as flute and clarinet! We will start with the basics of learning finger placement, breath control, notes, reading, rhythms, songs, theory and improvising.

This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

I have a broad understanding of music. I am well versed in saxophone, jazz, music theory, composition, and arranging. Aside from my experience in all these fields, I have a curriculum that offers students a skill tree. The skill tree both cleary documents what students has learned and what the next steps are in the student's path. This also gives students choices in their education. I am all about students being able to provide their own input into their education. My job is to set expectations and guide students through their musical path.

About Zach

Hello, I'm Zach Tyler, a professional saxophone player, composer, and arranger. Right now I am offering lessons to anyone with a desire to begin or further their musical path. I am a huge believer in music being a core part of the human experience which is why I have cultivated a curriculum that

I have had many successful students in my nearly 10 years teaching saxophone! I always gear lessons toward the individual student's musical goals and interests and I am constantly reinforcing good technique and practice habits. My favorite genre to teach is jazz, but I can help you with classical and pop music, too!

About Michael

I received my bachelors degree in music education and jazz studies from Western Michigan University, and my master's in jazz studies from Temple University in Philadelphia. I have played saxophone, flute and clarinet professionally in many different settings. My favorite genre to play and tea

I've been with Micheal for over two years now and he has helped me a ton. He's helped my technique, understanding of theory and the music I'm playing. I have recently started flute and he has given me great guidance on how I can improve and it has help tremendously.
Out of all the private lesson teachers I've had, Micheal is by far the best. I highly recommend him.

Michael is a fantastic teacher. He is very knowledgeable, and is great at explaining techniques in ways that are easy to understand. I notice immediate improvements upon beginning to implement his suggestions, which is exciting and motivating. He is patient and fun to work with. I highly recommend lessons with Michael!

I can’t speak highly enough about Mr. Hudson’s lessons. I’m fairly new to the clarinet, and his passion for the instrument and music as a whole has always been so inspiring to me. He really works to make each lesson a unique experience, and makes sure that we have fun while learning and growing! I’d recommend him to anyone.

"Me and my 12-year-old son started saxophone two years ago together. Ian had a great guide to us who had never played the instrument. My growth is slow due to age issues, (of course satisfied) but my son's growth was great. My son now has a great deal of confidence as a jazz player, and he was able to work on other things positively too. We met Ian then became more into music and jazz. He is patient and will tell you until we can do. Ian is mainly jazz, but he is also very familiar with brass band and classical saxophone too. He is a working musician who do live performance, gig, and compose in various places. He loves music from the heart, his solo is so beatuiful. Ian's lessons has changed our life. We really grateful for giving us his time."

"Jeff Johnson is a phenomenal teacher. He's been giving my 13 year old saxophone lessons since the fall, and I've been very impressed with the improvement. He's working with him on both jazz and traditional music and I've seen a lot of growth in the quality of the sound and rhythm of the music. But even more importantly, I've seen a change in my son's attitude. He was thinking of quitting saxophone early in the school year, and now is practicing without being reminded, and wants to stay with it through high school."

Choosing a Neck Strap | How to Play Saxophone Tips

Learning how to play saxophone starts with the right equipment--namely, a quality neck strap! Read on for some helpful advice from Brookings, SD teacher Carl S...    The saxophone is a unique instrument for many reasons.
