Clarinet is fun instrument to play, and I will help you get the most out of your learning. As a clarinet student, you will master the range, tone, and technique necessary to become a good clarinet player.

For beginner students, learning will start from opening your case for the first time and progress all the way to playing your first melodies. Beginning students are first taught how to blow across the reed to make a sound on the clarinet before moving on to other basics, including music reading, posture, and breath control.

For intermediate students, lessons will focus on breath control and support, posture, tonal quality, finger dexterity, articulation, hand position, sound production, and music theory as well as musicianship skills.

Jeanmarie is a wonderful clarinet teacher! I took lessons with her at Bay View Music Festival, and I also had her as a chamber coach there. She's very supportive and gave me lots of fresh ideas that have greatly helped my playing. She's also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet - I highly recommend her!

Hi! I have a Bachelors in Music Education and have started many students on their instruments. I have 3 children so I decided to give up regular teaching to be with them.
Hoping to give the love of “playing” an instrument to many others!

About Kim

Hello! I started my love of music at a young age with my family playing and singing at family functions. That turned into a wanting to learn how to play the flute and I went up through high school with that instrument. After high school I branched out more into vocal performance. After that I j

I have over 20 years of teaching and playing experience, and have worked with all ages and abilities. My youngest student is 4 years old, and I have helped folks in their 80's learn new instruments!

About Lisa

Lisa's first formal introduction to music came when her mother, a masters student at the Eastman school of Music in Rochester, enrolled her in violin lessons at age 6. The family moved to Miami, FL, but Lisa chose to move back north to attend college at the University of Rochester, and continue he

As an adult alto sax player, I had Lisa as a director/instructor in several small jazz ensembles. She is supportive and gave me a positive push ("a you can do this") in soloing/improvising. Lisa has been a mentor to me as I continue playing the sax and with her encouragement I was successful in performing in jazz band camp for 2 summers!

I work with the student to develop a curriculum based on their musical interests and my own teaching pedagogy. I strongly feel that for musicians to own their education, they must have a say in what they play. Assigning method books and mindless etudes to practice doesn't have nearly the same effect asking them "Ok, what kind of music do YOU like? What do you want to PLAY? What do you want to LEARN?".

I believe that students learn best when they are invested in a subject, and the best way to get them invested is to individually get to know each one, speak to them on their level, and get them playing music they're interested in.

About Jon

I'm a professional performer, educator, and recording artist. I received my Masters in Music from New Mexico State University, and my BA and BME from the College of Wooster in Ohio. Students can expect to improve their technique and performing repertoire within a matter of weeks. We will collabo

Jon was a great teacher for our teenager, helping him improve his reading while still leaving room open for self-expression and improvising with music that he likes. He is himself a really great musician, and a teacher that knows how to meet students where their interests are and help them learn.

"David Blumberg is the best clarinet teacher I have had. He is knowledgeable in musicality, clarinet technique, and clarinet equipment. He is able to quickly identify causes of problems and offer multiple solutions. I learned many things from him in just my first lesson. I have had lessons at his house and on Skype. In addition to his vast knowledge of the clarinet and pedagogy he is also a positive person. He wants to see his students succeed. I highly recommend anyone to take lessons from him. He was able to foster my love of music while still giving me the skills I needed to win the Idaho State Solo Championship in 2007. I was also exposed to music written long before the clarinet was created and with his encouragement, participated in numerous honor groups and music related community service."

"I've been taking lessons with Michael for over a year now, and it is definitely a highlight of my week! Michael was curious as to why I wanted to play the clarinet and has subsequently brought me books with Klezmer, Classical Duets, Jazz and Tango music. I had taken classical lessons for many years, but I can honestly say that I progressed so much more with Michael. He is fun to work with, and always finds the places where I have progressed. He is very skilled at finding new challenges to explore and does so in a most supportive way. Can't recommend him highly enough!"
