I place a strong emphasis on fundamentals like technique, theory and musicality. By taking a measured and detail oriented approach I can help you make quick progress through whatever musical style you'd like.

About Andrew
I'm a focused but easygoing tutor and musician with over a decade of experience playing and 8 years teaching experience in individual and group settings. In 2016 I completed my Bachelor's degree in classical guitar performance at Humboldt State University, where I received numerous academic and musical honors.

I'm currently living in San Francisco, about to finish my Master's degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and looking to build a teaching studio. In addition to my musical skills, I'm also an experienced writing tutor and spent several years working for a nonprofit after school enrichment program. As a result, i have experience working with children of various ages and backgrounds.

Andrew is such a great teacher! I'm a beginner guitar player who wanted to learn some of the basics and work on my technique, and Andrew was so patient and really took the time to work with me. Very easy-going and helpful, even though I know I'm not the best player. He clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to anything guitar-related and I cannot wait to set up another lesson. I already feel more confident in my abilities! Thanks Andrew!

My easy going and patient personality allows me to teach my students to become their best, whether they are just starting out or are more advanced in guitar. I believe the positive relationship between teacher and student is a crucial part of a student's success in learning while having fun playing. My focus is for my students to leave each lesson feeling confident and empowered to want to play and learn more each day. I know what it's like to go from knowing nothing about the guitar to becoming a seasoned musician, so I use extreme patience, encouragement, and guidance with simple guitar techniques. My focus for the beginner is to teach the fundamentals and basic chords for them to play their favorite songs as quickly as possible using a variety of books and personal instruction. About Marty
I've been playing guitar for 28 years and teaching for 10 years, music is my passion. Born and raised in New York, I grew up in a musical household as my mother was a professional piano player in New York and I was exposed to the industry at an early age. After leaving college in New York, I moved to San Jose, California and stumbled across a music book, studied it and taught myself guitar. I went on to play with professional musicians at The Musical Institute in Hollywood, California. From there I've played with a number of local bands and am fluent in the genres of Christian music, all types of Rock, Folk, Pop, Country, Blues, and Reggae. I am able to learn songs by ear and transpose them, as well as teaching from music books in a simple, easy manner for my students to play successfully their favorite songs. My passion for music is d
isplayed in my easy going and patient style of teaching making music fun to play. Acoustic and electric guitars (6 and 12 string) are my preferred instruments.

Excellent teacher

Marty is a fantastic teacher. He’s been great teaching my 14 year old daughter. He’s very patient and makes playing the guitar so simple for her. The first lesson he really was interested in what SHE wanted to eventually be able to play, then taught her some basics and a few simple cords. By the end of the lesson, she was playing a simple song and was so excited. Also very respectful to me as her parent and has a gentle, non-aggressive personality making us both very comfortable. My daughter now even is writing her own songs and playing guitar to them. I would highly recommend Marty as a guitar teacher, he really knows what he’s doing.

I have been teaching guitar for the past 10 years. I really enjoy teaching guitar and seeing my students learning and enjoying it too! I use a book that I really like but of course I add other materials when I think it is suitable for my student. Each student learns differently so I adapt to his learning style and to his needs.

About sadi soraya
About me, I have been playing the guitar for more than 20 years. I studied at the conservatory of Music in Paris. In San Francisco, I studied and played with many great jazz musicians and teachers. I have also studied Theory/ composition, electronic music and voice.
I hold a degree in English literature and currently teaches also at the French American School in San Francisco.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I expect the best of you but I also know that we all learn differently and at a different pace. As a beginner, you will learn to read and play at the same time by learning simple melodies and simple chords right away. As an intermediate/ advance, we will take it from where you stopped and will continue to move forward according to your needs and goals. I can also teach the lesson in French.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Living Room/Practice Room, keyboard, amps, guitars, bass, microphone, recording and music notation software

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide music sheets, recordings, if needed, I expect them to have their instrument, recorder to record the lesson if they want to, pencil and eraser. I will sometimes ask them to buy a book if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
My lessons focus first on understanding the instrument by playing simple melodies. Then I applied the theory learnt by learning songs. For more advanced players, I can teach to play solo guitar how to harmonize the melodic note with chords. For students who are interested in singing and playing, I can coach them.

Student will learn basic technique to strengthen fingers including scales and other agility exercises. Rep will depend on the student's goals and needs.

About Mandy
I have been singing for as long as I can remember and started studying voice at age 15. I sang in my first band when I was in high school, then 2 others while in college. Professionally, I was a back-up vocalist and percussionist with the Sam Morrison Band from 2006-2012, where I traveled all over the country. This premiere Bob Seger tribute band is signed by Titan Tribute Media and has recorded 3 albums that can be found on iTunes.

I left home to study music at Cal State, Long Beach. There, I was challenged with more difficult genres, like opera and Lieder. My appetite continued to grow as I immersed myself in performances, competitions, and traveling the world with college choirs.

I have worked in opera companies based in southern California, including Lyric Opera of Los Angeles, Long Beach Opera, and Celestial Opera. I have
also been hired as a soloist at various local churches.

I was a faculty member at Orange County School of the Arts, for almost a decade, where I taught Music Theory, Music History, and Musicianship.

As a member of Belle Musique, a hand bell trio, I played and sung for weddings, funerals, and private parties.

I got to wail as the lead singer of Pine Street Band singing classic covers from CCR to Blondie to Tom Petty.

In addition, I sing and play in a band, Wheel House, where we create a unique blend of rock, blues, and funk.

It is my belief that it is never too late to follow your passion, but you have to find what really makes you happy and fulfilled!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students according to their own goals and interests. However, I must include elements that are vital in the musical world whether the student is a hobbyist or leaning toward a professional career. My instrumentalists will learn all aspects of theory including rhythm, basic theory, and musicianship. My singers will learn about breath, anatomy, alignment, and performance. This is in addition to learning fundamental repertoire.

I have very high expectations for my students and do my best to motivate and challenge them, bringing out the natural musician. I am goofy but demanding and always develop a strong and trusting relationship with each and every student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In home music studio with upright piano, electric piano, recording equipment, drum set, amps, guitars, bass, and seating for parents.

*** Specialties ***
Specialize vocally in opera, rock, funk, musical theater.

About Aidan
I have been playing guitar since I was 10 and loving music my whole life. I have been in numerous rock bands, the high-school jazz band, classical guitar duos, trios, chamber ensembles, and even played mandolin in a bluegrass band. I received my Bachelor of Music at Guilford College as a student of Kami Rowan. During my third year of study there, I was nominated for the Guilford College Art Award as the outstanding student and performer in the music department. In February of 2010, I had the honor of being a member of the guitar orchestra during a performance of Shingo Fuji’s Concierto de los Angeles, alongside soloist, Grammy winner, William Kanengiser. I recently completed my Master of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I studied with Jason Vieaux. There I was awarded the Rosalia Ablan Memorial Prize for my accomplis
hments on the guitar. In addition to guitar performance, I have studied music theory, jazz theory, and pedagogy. I am a native of San Francisco and have been teaching privately since 2007. No matter what a student's interests are, I can give them a rock solid foundation in technique, performance, reading, and theory.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons I make it a priority to create an easy-going, non-intimidating environment, so that you, the student, can focus on your goals and learning, approach music at your own pace, and really look forward to coming in to lessons. Whether you are interested in electric, steel-string, or classical, Metallica, Mozart, or anything in between, I can teach you technique, musicianship skills, and songs that fit your personal interests.
For beginning students I like to teach a mixture of basic theory, music-reading, and chords/scales. Soon after, the student can begin to bring in songs that s/he is interested in, and I can start to build lessons around specific styles/pieces. I teach all levels and all ages, and I would love to share my passion and knowledge with you, and gain you skill and confidence on the guitar, as well as a deep understanding of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical guitar, and am very familiar with the teachings of Aaron Shearer. His methods and practices provide the basis for how I teach technique and how i approach learning pieces. I also supplement his ideas with those of Pepe Romero, William Kanengiser, and Scott Tenant (particularly their views on technique).
I am also more than comfortable teaching pop/rock guitar on steel-string or electric, and TAB-ing/teaching songs the student brings in. Whether the student prefers classical or popular s/he will get a good foundation in music theory and music reading.

I can teach students from anywhere between a beginning level or an advanced level attempting to advance technique.

About Cristopher
As a musician that has played for about a decade, I have studied and worked to become a teacher. I've played in numerous bands, have worked in studios, and have been teaching for about four years now and am always finding new ways to understand and help accomplish my students' goals. I've studied music theory and composition from Mike Keller (Letters From the fire) and David Meckler (Canada College music department). I'm currently working on an independent album that has begun recording.

*** Lesson Details ***
I find it's easiest to asses the level at which a student is at and work from there, moving towards the goal set by the student using music the student already enjoys, not kiddy books with songs they'll never actually play. My styles focus on technique and work back to theory. I play anything and everything from country to Santa
na, to Metallica, and to everything in between. I teach from covers to original works.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The equipment I have for the studio are a couple of my electric guitars: Midnight Blue Schecter Omen 6, Ibanez S470DXQM, KSE ASG, Ibanez F0509338, Fender Stratocaster. My BOSS ME-33 special effects pedal, my Raven RG20 amplifier, and my Fender Frontman 15G amplifier. I also have multiple iMacs for Garageband and a recording studio. (services of which cost additional value for use)

*** Travel Equipment ***
The equipment I have for travel are a couple of my electric guitars: matte black LTD Deluxe EC-1000, gray/black Schecter Omen 6, KSE ASG, Ibanez F05, and a Fender Stratocaster. My BOSS ME-33 special effects pedal, my Raven RG20 amplifier, my Fender Frontman 15G amplifier, and my Fender Mustang 200.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in technique, so I can help even the newest of players find their style and learn how to work on memorizing the fretboard without even having to look at it or your finger placement. I can also help more advanced players smooth out their way of playing.

Practicing very slowly, learning to use a metronome, shorter but more frequent practice sessions, and plenty time f
or free play, are some of the concepts at the core of my teaching style. My strong communication skills are used to dispel any mystery in the instrument, how it works, and making music with it. No matter the skill level of the student, there is always something new to learn or a new way to approach the instrument. I have extensive experience with music production technology including equipment, DAW software, and recording techniques, incorporating these into your lessons if you're interested. I am also versed in synthesizers and sound design.

My lessons are always customized towards the individual, but stress the ability to make music even with very little technique. Building on simple riffs, easy chord changes, and practicing slowly to instill confidence and keep students interested. I often incorporate popular Beatles or Taylor Swift songs to teach chord changes and song form. Working on reading music for piano students and tablature for guitar as well as lead sheets for both. I can also show you how to interpret "cheat sheets," those lyrics with the chords above them that you get from the internet, that are always a little bit wrong.

Having finally reached a place where technique is no longer a hurdle to making music is a reward equal to the amount of time and effort that was required to reach this level of proficiency. I find great joy in showing people of all ages that music can be life-enriching, expanding one’s appreciation of the arts, providing opportunities for new friendships, and creating a sense of accomplishment with every new song learned or skill acquired on a musical instrument.
