I have played clarinet for 17 years now and studied with Dr. Janet Averett at San Jose State. Whether you are just looking for a new way to experience music or are a serious musician looking to improve your technique and I am excited to help develop your performing abilities!
Music teacher looking to keep busy working with bright young students eager to improve or begin their musical endeavors!
I have a Bachelor of Music degree from San Jose State University in Music Education and have taught private lessons for over 10 years. I have also recently completed the teaching credential program in Music and teach Kindergarten through 8th grade Music for the Pioneer Union School District. Currently, I play with the Roseville Community Band. I have played the clarinet for 20 years, played with the San Jose State Wind Ensemble for 4, and studied with Dr. Janet Averett while attending SJSU. What I learned from her about teaching is invaluable, I hope to be the inspiration and encouragement to my students that she was to me. I hope to encourage them to express themselves as well teach them good practice skills. Less
ons with me will focus on not just the technical aspect to playing their instrument but the creative/expressive aspect to playing music on any instrument. After all, playing an instrument is about making MUSIC!
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect my students to provide for themselves their instrument, a music stand, and chair. They should also have the music they are working on at school if they have some.
I've been with Mikaela for the past 2 to 3 years, and she's been a wonderful instructor since. I started learning with her after playing the clarinet for about 3 years already- my skills on the clarinet have definitely improved tremendously, and the lessons have given me an edge in all my musical experiences. In addition to being a skillful clarinetist and teacher, she's also very supportive, caring, flexible schedule-wise, and has helped me grow my love for playing and music in general. She has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try new, scary things (auditions, competitions, etc) that have definitely helped me grow as a musician and a person. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a boost in skill, a great teacher, and a wonderful experience. :)
Studied Clarinet at Gulf Coast College in Panama City, Florida and studied privately with Richard Potter, former Principle clarinetist with the Altoona Symphony and Charles Frahm, former clarinetist with the Indianapolis Symphony.
My love of music and musical talent was discovered when I was just five years old. An uncle gave me a plastic recorder and, without lessons or help from anyone, I was playing melodies within days. Soon after I started taking private lessons on Saxophone and Clarinet. I played my first paying job at age 14. When I was 15, my private instructor, asked me if I would be interested in teaching. He put me on the County list of private instructors and and soon I had my own thriving studio of Sax and Clarinet students. From that time on, I have almost continuously been involved in music education. Though I had listened to the rock "guitar gods" of the 60's I never became interested the guitar until, at the age of 15, I first heard Maestro Andres Segovia through his televised master classes. About the same time, I was amazed by the chord
melody genius of jazz artists like George Van Eps, Joe Pass, and Bucky Pizzarelli. It was then I realized that the guitar could be an "orchestra." In the small town where I grew up, there were no guitar teachers so I studied with outstanding Guitarist Ed McGuire. Later, I studied formally with several renowned professors of guitar, including Bruce Holzman at FSU and Randy Reed, a professor at Duke University in Durham North Carolina. I have also performed in Master Classes for Classical Guitarists Atigoni Goni and Dimitri Diatchenko. Before making North Florida my home, I toured and played throughout the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast in a variety of venues and styles from Rock to Jazz to R&B. Even after settling down I have stayed active in the music business, playing and teaching. I continue to work regularly performing solo, or in ensembles throughout Florida from Tallahassee to Jacksonville.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a laid back teacher who prefers to motivate my students by instilling my love of, and enthusiasm for, music in them rather than using any kind of "scare" tactics. I had a very few "knuckle rapper" style teachers over the years and found them to be very unmotivating. A large percentage of the progress a student makes happens between the lessons. The more they practice, the faster they improve. I also believe in building a solid foundation that my students can build upon. A good teacher teaches a student how to teach themselves. On guitar, I encourage, but don't insist on, my students learning to read music. Some styles of guitar do not require it, but I do mention the gigs I have gotten over the years because I could read. On all instruments, I am a big believer in great technique, musicianship and improvisational skills.
*** Studio Equipment *** Studio is in back of the house as an addition. It has its own separate entrance and is approx 160 sq feet. Well lit and with heat and air.
*** Travel Equipment *** I will provide a music stand if needed. Students must have their own instrument. They will need to get their own books, though I do provide much supplemental material.
I have been Randall's student for a few years. Randall is very knowledgeable about music and an excellent teacher. Additionally, Randall is courteous, professional, and punctual. I highly recommend Randall as your new music instructor.

My students excel in everything they do because of the techniques we learn that incorporate skills to strengthen learning in subjects including: math, science, languages, reading, writing, creativity and many more life long skills. I challenge my students and encourage them to have fun most of all in pursuing their passions for music.

I've been teaching Clarinet for 15 years and my students have gone on to College, and other performing goals.I use a variety of books from the typical book you would use as a student in a band program to a more advanced method for other players. Each student is different so I try to evolve to meet their specific needs and learning styles. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you! I plan and offer yearly student performances to give students a practical application to their instruction.

I am an adult who has no experience with any type of instrument and was very nervous and intimidated at first. Then I met with Michael, and though there was a ton of information we had to go through, he really made me feel at ease. He has the knowledge, patience, and understanding I was really looking for in a teacher and I'm so happy I found him!

With his flexibility and willingness to accommodate us my daughter learned a lot from him. He was a wonderful teacher and a great person to do business with.

Michael is very energetic and passionate about music. My kids have really enjoyed their time with him and we would recommend him to anyone!
For over more than 20 years I have had many successful students, who have enjoyed playing and studying with me. Teaching is a life-giver for me--I enjoy introducing students to the joys of different musical ideas, concepts, and ways that they can advance on their instrument. Things that I have enjoyed learning and playing over the years, that I can pass on to them to explore and enjoy. I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music, and have taught as an adjunct on the college level, high school, and privately. On the college level, I have taught clarinet, saxophone, and flute at three colleges, a Woodwind Methods class for five years, developed jazz ensembles, and developed and procured music for woodwind trios and saxophone quartets.
I have played professionally in these settings; jazz, symphonic, pit orchestra, and general business entertainment freelance as a woodwinds specialist.

Clarinet students will learn about the fundamentals of music including rhythm, note-reading, and basic theory as well as more in-depth clarinet-related topics like tone, breath support, and altissimo registers!
I began teaching in-home lessons to K-12 and adult students in 2010. Since then I have: 1) Taught thousands of fun and engaging lessons to over 150 students 2) Helped high school students attain successful college music auditions 3) Had students on saxophone AND clarinet place successfully in All-State and All-County Honors Bands and Gifted and Talented Ensembles
Whether your student is excelling and wants new musical challenges to stay engaged or you think they could enjoy music but are struggling to keep up, I have experience with that situation. I am a passionate performer myself, and I released my debut jazz album in early 2018. I truly believe that music is one of the greatest sources of joy in the world.
I played the sax through high school and then stopped playing until I retired ~ 4 years ago. I started lessons with Julian when he lived nearby and have continued with "skype" lessons since he moved out of the area. He's a great teacher: motivational, thorough knowledge of both classical and jazz, kind, good sense of humor, and a good communicator. I highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Julian as a saxophone teacher. My son started playing saxophone and taking lessons with Julian three years ago, when my son was 9 years old. Julian is patient with my son and has built a good rapport with him. Julian has always encouraged him to try his best and to not be discouraged when he makes mistakes, and that has made my son comfortable with Julian and confident enough to push himself. Also, Julian is reliable and punctual, and is good at communicating through text and email.
I want to make sure that you learn not only how to play the clarinet, but that you also have a firm grasp on everything else that goes into great musicianship! If you'd like, I can bring a strong emphasis on music theory, so that you can better understand and appreciate the music you are learning. On top of theory, I would love to open up the opportunity for you to compose your own pieces. I also want you to have a good understanding of how your instrument actually is working, physically speaking — my goal is to make you a well rounded musician!
I prefer to have you learn real repertoire versus working from a methods book, because I want you to be excited about the music you are learning. I will let you explore the rep that you want, from medieval to contemporary, as well as non-western. Contemporary classical music is my specialty, and I'd be more than happy to dive into this with you!
Hello! My name's Kevin, and I'm a composer/musician based in Brooklyn. I went to the College of William and Mary where I studied both music and physics. Following that, I received a master's degree focusing in music composition from the University of Chicago.
I would love to help you have a stronger understanding of your instrument and music in general! I started playing clarinet in the 8th grade, and continued playing all through high school, undergrad, and grad school. Clarinet is my primary instrument, but before clarinet I began saxophone, and before saxophone, I began piano. Music has been a central part of my life for such a long time, and I can't imagine life without it!
My primary career pursuit is music composition, so I would love to dive into some music theory with each piece that you learn. I feel that understanding the mu
sic itself builds a stronger appreciation for the act of playing music. I have written a lot of pieces for myself on clarinet, and would be thrilled to help you on your own compositions if that is something your interested in. Contemporary classical music is my passion, but I want to help you explore the repertoire that fascinates you.
Even though these are clarinet lessons you'll be taking, I would be using the clarinet as a tool to bring you into the beautiful world of music. That means that other than technical things such as sound and fingerings, we'd be talking about what makes the music that you're playing great and how to best convey it in your playing. Come study with a professional performing clarinetist with extensive teaching experience in all ages and levels. Whatever music style you're into (classical/jazz/klezmer...), I'd be happy to focus on.
Hi! I'm a Juilliard graduate clarinetist (BM, MM, AD), currently on the Juilliard Pre College Division faculty [chamber music] as well as at Vassar College (teaching clarinet). I perform extensively as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. Although I'm mostly classically trained, I play jazz and klezmer as well.
A real expert who has a heart for teaching and very flexible.

Perhaps the best teacher I’ve ever had—in any discipline, at any age. When I first began two years ago, I couldn’t read a note of music and had never played any instrument. Since then, thanks to Moran’s patience and guidance, I can play with confidence at a level I never imagined. Wonderful, kind, yet demanding teacher who enjoys teaching and takes great pride in the progress of her students

A wonderful clarinetist, musician, and teacher! She explains and demonstrates the physical and musical aspects of clarinet-playing clearly so that you can build a solid foundation and progress rapidly. Very highly recommended!
"I've been taking lessons with Michael for over a year now, and it is definitely a highlight of my week! Michael was curious as to why I wanted to play the
clarinet and has subsequently brought me books with Klezmer, Classical Duets, Jazz and Tango music. I had taken classical lessons for many years, but I can honestly say that I progressed so much more with Michael. He is fun to work with, and always finds the places where I have progressed. He is very skilled at finding new challenges to explore and does so in a most supportive way. Can't recommend him highly enough!"
"she's a really great instructor she will have you practice something more challenging and then she will help you with whatever you need help with."
"I'm on my third lesson and really enjoying them. Victoria and I have a great rapport and the lessons are filled with learning, laughter (mostly because I
can laugh easily at my mistakes, not HER laughing at me!!), and they are so fun! I'm doing super well because she is able to tailor her teaching style to my learning style. I can't say enough how much this helps. Looking forward to the rest of my lessons!"
"My coaching was really great and helpfull. The approach was simple, precise, and there was no stress. Hideaki is a talented clarinet player as well as an
excellent teacher. He gave me many tricks that I can include in my day to day playing. If I could, I won’t hesitate a minute to have another coaching with him."
"I love taking lessons with Bill! I'm returning to clarinet after playing as a child, and Bill has made the entire process really fun and rewarding. He's h
elped me gain a deeper appreciation for the instrument and the music we're learning, and provides the right amount of challenge to keep me engaged and progressing while still enjoying the process. Bill has really deep music knowledge, which makes him a really versatile instructor. He's helped me even enjoy doing scales!"
"Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep musi
c knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.
In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.
Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.
Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation."
"Frankie helped me with my clarinet tone within the first 15 minutes of the first lesson, and gave me many more helpful playing tips throughout the hour.
He was really interested in what my goals were. Looking forward to many more lessons with Frankie."
"Our son enjoyed his lesson with Matt and is looking forward to the next one."
"The best instructor I’ve ever had!! I learned so much from her! I highly recommend this instructor! You will learn a lot and enjoy it!"
