Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

A woodwind player since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach beginning clarinet lessons.

About Thomas

Piano, woodwinds, trumpet, composition Chords, sight-reading, theory, jazz, classical, and pop No one ever regrets learning an instrument… yet many grow old wishing they had taken music lessons! A talent they’ll be able to develop their entire life, your children will thank you for giving them

The first lesson was successful. My particular background in piano is unique, and my needs are atypical as well. I thought Thomas assessed my abilities, lack of abilities, and goals well and quickly. He started me on a different perspective on looking at music (reading the staff) that seems very helpful. I'm encouraged.

I was very impressed with how Ryan engaged my son during his first lesson. He was able to make it fun and educational for him. I think what made a huge difference was his ability to hone in on what what kinds on music my son was interested in and some how work it in to the initial lesson plan. He showed him how much fun it could be and then was able to incorporate the basics from there. Also, he is extremely patient and laid back making it stress free. Thank you for a great lesson! We look forward to continuing more.

I've been trying to learn piano 19 years now and after just one lesson with kid everything seems soo clear. THANK YOU FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE!

We scheduled Ryan to come to our house at a specific time to teach our 15 YO son. He did not show up and called 2 hours after the scheduled time to say he was misinformed by Take Lessons as to the time (even though we had confirmed the time at the beginning). We planned to resume the following week and again he did not show up. He did not reply to texts, his voicemail was not set up on his phone and he made no efforts to let us know that he had cancelled with us.

What a flake and a disappointment!

Greetings Everyone,

Lauren taught my son saxophone for 5 years, beginning with his very first lesson at age 9, and continuing throughout middle school. She was always very patient, reassuring, and encouraging. Lauren really helped to develop my son's love for music and playing the sax! She prepared him for middle school jazz band auditions, and helped with his jazz band music throughout those years. Lauren challenged him with new selections when his school band music became too easy, but always allowed him to work at a pace he found comfortable. Now in HS, he's very busy with all things band, so lesson time is limited for him, but we wouldn't hesitate to call Lauren again.

Lauren has been giving my son saxophone lessons for over 4 years. She has been an excellent teacher always on time and available. He has progressed under her direction very well. Currently, she's teaching our daughter acoustic guitar and we've been very happy with her progress.

We had a little trouble with our connection but Lauren is great and very patient. Hopefully we can get all the issues with the connection worked out and we are looking forward to the next class! I think it’s going to help my daughter a lot!

Mr Lewis is fantastic. He truly loves teaching kids to love music. My grandson first had him as a 5th grade music teacher and now as a private instructor for his clarinet. He takes each student at their own pace, encouraging them along the way to stretch and challenge.

So far, I have had only one lesson with Dr. M., the only singing lesson I've had in my entire 66 years of a lifetime. My only regret, is that I did not take them sooner. Dr M. is patient, an expert, and motivational. What more could you ask for when working with a teacher. He thinks he can make a singer out of me; I'll have to trust his judgement. It would be awesome, if he achieves our goal.

"David Blumberg is the best clarinet teacher I have had. He is knowledgeable in musicality, clarinet technique, and clarinet equipment. He is able to quickly identify causes of problems and offer multiple solutions. I learned many things from him in just my first lesson. I have had lessons at his house and on Skype. In addition to his vast knowledge of the clarinet and pedagogy he is also a positive person. He wants to see his students succeed. I highly recommend anyone to take lessons from him. No one is too good to learn something from David! -Tom Bassett - principal clarinet Northerntier Symphony - Clarinet teacher Csehy Summer School of Music"

"David is very pleasant to work with and will spot any notes that are missing or that does not balance with the rest. Phrasing and intonation are important.
I was given techniques to better prepare exercises and studies. Davis will suggest tools to improve playing: method books, reading, videos and work sheets.
I always start my lessons with a series of questions I have prepared for him and he has so many comments on all of my questions.
Having a world-class teaching like David Blumberg is gold to me. I am past 68 now and I have never had so much fun working with my clarinet."

"I have been working with Corrine since middle school and she has guided me into the top band of my high school. The fundamentals she has implemented into me have stuck since my first lesson with her in sixth grade. She is able to build a clarinetist from the ground up by starting with a solid foundation then progressing to advanced musicianship. Corrine is excellent at assessing my problems and coming up with unique ways to solve them that kept me engaged in the lesson and inspire me to pursue my passion for the Clarinet. I prefer her over other tutors because she is very problem solving based. Corrine is able to identify and analyze my problems and come up with clever and efficient exercises to help me with my personal needs. Another reason I continue to enjoy practicing with her is that she is very easy to communicate with and she explains her solutions to my problems in a way I can understand easily.

Corrine is an amazing teacher and very friendly. Most of all, she actually cares about me and my problems and she really wants to see me grow my skills to become a better clarinetist by sharing her true passion for the instrument."

"Mikaela helped ramp my daughter from having no clarinet experience to being a fairly proficient player ready for the school band, in less than a school year. Mikaela is friendly, points out little things that help make big improvements in my daughter's playing, and keeps checking on the basics as well (embouchure, finger positioning, etc). Mikaela has been very flexible and has a good teaching manner and attitude which has made my daughter's clarinet learning experience a very positive one. We look forward to continuing to work with Mikaela!"
