Private Clarinet Teacher

I teach clarinet primarily through the tried and true Rubank method. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed selection, and repertoire. I also employ custom exercises specifically for clarinet to help my students progress the fastest.

About Kyle

Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Teaching private music lessons is my primary job, so I have much experience and wisdom compared to teachers who teach "on the side." Students of all ages stay wi

Kyle is a great piano teacher! He is very patient with my 12-year old son. Just yesterday he referred to him as “fun Kyle” because he teaches him small songs on the side that he can show friends and family or are for upcoming holidays. He’s always punctual and respectful of our family and home. I’m grateful to have found him!

I just received my Doctorate in clarinet performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. During my doctoral program, I was the teaching assistant in clarinet for three years. Previously, in May 2016, I graduated from California State University with a Master in Music in clarinet performance under the teaching of Hakan Rosengren, international soloist. Finally, prior to my doctorate studies, I studied with Boris Allakhverdyan, principal clarinetist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. I am a Buffet Crampon USA sponsored artist.

I have the experience of teaching private lessons in France and America and I am seeking clarinet students of every level and age.

I will focus my teaching on your needs and can help you improve technique, musicianship and sound production. I also can help you get ready for auditions and recitals.

I spend much time working on tone and technique with my students as this leads to much success when it comes to specializing in both classical and jazz playing. I give students much freedom as to what they want to work on as this allows students to be excited about taking lessons. After all, music is supposed to be fun!

Eric Ferrer teaching style is very clear/simple/ and intuitive. He really shows you there’s simplicity in learning anything. I thought the piano was a stride i always wanted to take on. Yet with Eric the process in learning how to use both hands was so simple that I was very surprised.

"My son had never played the clarinet before. I signed him up with Damien to get an intro to the instrument, play with the correct embouchure, and learn a few simple songs. My son definitely got a head start before virtual learning starts in the fall and enjoyed learning about the clarinet. Damien was patient, direct and very knowledgeable. I only intended to do summer lesson to get him started, but I will definitely consider lessons again after he gets settled with his new school schedule."

"Mr. Rappaport was my clarinet professor and mentor in college and has continued to be an inspiration to me both as a teacher and as one of the finest clarinetist I know, both in the classical realm and in the jazz and swing styles.

Anyone who has ever heard me play has always complimented me on my clarinet tone. I can honestly say that my clarinet tone is the direct result of Mr. Rappaport's methods and his gentle but very stringent guidelines. If you are looking for someone to take you or your child to the highest standard of musicianship, look no further. I highly recommend lessons with Mr. Rappaport. Kim C."

"David is a fantastic musician and truly gifted teacher. When I moved to the Philadelphia area, I tried 2 other teachers who had been very highly recommended, but I was sadly disappointed -- not because they were not very good musicians, but because they were not able to pass along to me what I needed I order to progress. I had almost given up on the idea of getting a wonderful teacher who would listen to my needs and be able to help me. But since being with David, my playing has improved tremendously in a fairly short period of time (less that 1 year). He has helped me improve my technique and sound dramatically. And... he's a lovely person. I cannot recommend him highly enough."

"My daughter has truly enjoyed having Letha as a clarinet teacher. She has been able to strengthen and improve my daughter's tone, scales, posture, transitions between low to higher notes, and overall technique. This has led to her improvement and enjoyment of the school band. Letha's teaching style has fit well including providing positive feedback on the spot. 'Having Letha come to our house is also a great benefit to our schedule."

"David has a wealth of knowledge and experience that makes him an ideal teacher. However, what I most enjoyed having him as a teacher is his ability to find music that motivates each student. He never plugs students into a pre-set regimen, but rather finds their individual interests and talents and tailors his lessons accordingly. In this way he is able to draw out of a student what other teachers cannot."

"I love taking lessons with Bill! I'm returning to clarinet after playing as a child, and Bill has made the entire process really fun and rewarding. He's helped me gain a deeper appreciation for the instrument and the music we're learning, and provides the right amount of challenge to keep me engaged and progressing while still enjoying the process. Bill has really deep music knowledge, which makes him a really versatile instructor. He's helped me even enjoy doing scales!"
