Flute:
A musical instrument in the woodwind group. Unlike woodwind instruments with reeds, a flute is an aerophone or reedless wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air across an opening. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

I see it as a great honor and serious responsibility to be able to teach music. I have a master's in music education, a bachelor's in flute, and have done additional training in the Suzuki method. I recognize that each student is unique and I am comfortable working with multiple levels and ages. I believe all students should feel supported and encouraged to be expressive players and thoughtful musicians.

Karena's teaching style lies between analytical problem solving and imaginative music making. She is always eager to pass on the information she has learned from the teachers she has worked with and applies them in creative ways with her students. Phrasing is always first and she helps students problem solve the technical side to enable the music to come alive. While having a deep knowledge of the physicality of playing, she is sensitive in gauging what kind of approach each student needs and what will help them grow most effectively.
About Karena
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students to help them discover the beauty of music making and achieve their individual goals. I graduated from Jacobs School of Music with a degree in classical flute performance. Under the private tutelage of Kathryn Lukas, soloist an

I had been taking lessons from another flute teacher since 2011 and knew it was time to change. Stephanie has always been able to help me. She is very knowledgeable about all questions and problems I was having on playing the flute or reading music. When questioning a technique she is able to demonstrate it or explain it in a different way so I could understand it. I’ve always had trouble with the high notes and alternate fingering and she definitely has helped me on those. Stephanie personally is a lot more enjoyable than my last teacher. She always seems happy to see me.
I also play Low Flutes and just bought my first Bass Flute. She also plays low flutes."

She understands and works out each measure in the piece you are willing to take out for and is dedicated to make you sound the best you can for your audition~"

as an adult learner i had some trepidation about taking flute lessons again. however, it is so good to be taught by amy, she breaks down music and offers a manageable script. i was a better flutist after my first lesson and continue to improve.
i love the setting in her home. it is a warm inviting space that puts me at ease.
in her instructions she is always clear and patient. she is professional in her home even with her family near.
it has been a joy getting to know her family, as well.she is able to function masterfully in her own home.as ateacher."
