I am an avowed uke aficionado, and believe this little instrument has way more potential than most people give it credit for. It works wonderfully for providing basic chords to accompany songs. For the more ambitious and/or adventurous uke players out there, it can also yield amazing results as a solo instrument, presenting the melody and accompaniment together. Jazz, classical, world music and pop are all great on the uke. I'd love to help you learn to do whatever you are looking to do with your uke.

I especially enjoy introducing beginners of all ages to the ukulele, which was my first musical passion as a young child! These days, my passion is working with my students in ways that prepare them to pursue their musical interests armed with correct posture and hand position, foundational technique, music-reading capabilities, and what I call the "building blocks" of music: knowledge of functional music theory and how to use it.

"Functional music theory" can sound daunting, but in fact it is fascinating, at least the way I teach it, using analogies appropriate to the age of the student, from chords like different types of sandwiches (yum!) to chord progressions like the materials and equipment used to build a house.

I also encourage my students from the start to EXPRESS themselves musically, emotionally, playfully, in ways that keep their imaginations engaged in their musical studies, rather than private lessons becoming stressful or tedious.

I have been helping students reach their goals for over 20 years! I am a working musician and professional performer who has been involved in music my entire life. My teaching methods help students achieve success because I adjust to each student's needs and abilities, individually, to create a great experience. I couple traditional teaching with performances and offer professional student shows and concerts throughout the year to help enrich the experience! I'm a professional musician and instructor, teaching various instruments for over ten years. My main instruments are guitar and drums/percussion, but I've also played and taught piano, mandolin, ukulele, and harmonica.

I would love to work with novice ukulele players of any age, to get you through the basics - chords, melodies, rhythms, strumming, finger-picking, and so much more! We can learn popular songs for the ukulele and/or talk about reading and writing music on the ukulele. I'll structure lessons according to the age, skill level, and interest of the student.

Music is an exploration. Human beings are musical by nature. We walk to a beat, we dance to a beat, we communicate to a beat, and our hearts beat to a beat. My goal as a music teacher is provide knowledge in how we can use music to express ourselves. Through our musical exploration it is important to learn from everyone, follow no one, watch for patterns and most importantly to work every hard!

Through my studies as a music therapist, I have learned and practiced various way to provide the best instruction and musical experience to students of all ages and learning styles.

Due to covid-19 it is important to continue to grow and learn new skills. I have invested in high quality video cameras and audio equipment to provide the best quality lessons.

Experienced music instructor for students of all ages! My ukulele lessons establishes all of the basics of tuning, sight reading, theory, playing chords, fretboard navigation, and musical performance for the beginning student. Intermediate players will focus more on technique and repertoire.
