All ages, all levels, various styles including: jazz, classical, commercial/contemporary music

About Fernando
Hello there! My name is Fernando, and I bring lots of profession playing and teaching experience to the table. I am an active musician in several local bands of various styles and genres, including jazz bands, Latin jazz bands, sax quartets, church groups, and musicals. I have played across southern California, several other states including Nevada (Reno Jazz Festival), Portugal, and Mexico.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, from CSUF. I also hold a valid California Teaching Credential, which I completed through CSUF. I also hold an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Fullerton College. I am also currently working on my Master's Degree in Music Conducting.

I am the Instrumental and Choral Music Teacher at Buena Park Jr. High School, in the city of Buena Park, where I teach band, orchestra, percussion
, and choir.

I have also taught woodwinds for various high schools across southern California, as well as a marching/visual coach for marching bands.

I front and lead my own Christian Contemporary Band. We've recorded two albums, of which I have composed the original music/lyrics, and produced both albums. We are currently working on our third album.

I can teach everything from jazz, to classical, rock, blues, Latin genres (salsa, merengue, bolero, mambo, etc.), and even contemporary Christian music in both English and Spanish.

I mix all of these experiences and knowledge into a big melting pot, and apply it very efficiently and wisely so that my students can positively benefit from a wonderful and exciting real-world musical journey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I base my lessons around the student's needs for musical growth, and their own likes and dislikes. If there is something specific that the student wants to learn, as far as a style/genre or piece of music, I foster that and I help encourage musical growth and enjoyment around that.
I am constantly encouraging my students to listen to as much music as possible, or better yet, to watch and listen to as much live music as possible. I strongly believe that this nurtures musical growth and serves as a role model.
I am very patient and laid back, but I do expect the student to have fun while staying constant with individual practice. There is no substitution for perseverance, consistency, and hard work, but it doesn't mean that we will not have fun while we make music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
An upright Yamaha acoustic piano is available, along with a Korg and Kurzweil digital keyboards, music stands, computer music software for studying repertoire (music), a large collection/library of books containing scales, exercises, music, etc. I also can make copies or print something for you if necessary. A sound system is available for listening to something is necessary. Flute, saxophone, and clarinet students must provide their own instrument, but I can point you in the right direction in terms of acquiring an instrument either for purchase or rental from a local music retail store.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must provide their own instrument, except piano if student comes to my home for lessons. Student must also provide books (as assigned), and metronome for practicing at home. I can carry with me things such as: saxophone, clarinet, flute, a portable music stand, metronome/tunes, pencil, paper, and any other book(s) or materials as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach classical, jazz/contemporary, funk, latin, blues, contemporary Christian, improvisation and music theory at very advanced levels.

Seth is a good dude. I came across his profile with Take Lessons a month ago, after browsing through other instructors in my area and other schools in my area. He's got the experience and knowledge, so I connected with him for an initial lesson. It was a quick one to get introductions out of the way and a good idea of goals/direction. From there we further honed our plans for my instruction in an hour lesson and are directing our sights on my upcoming auditions. Seth has shown me through simple explanations of theory that his teaching style is very approachable, and additionally, was able to show me good technical skills on working my way around the horn, which is especially useful for someone like me in my twenties who already has a few bad habits (haha). Like I said, he's a good dude, good sense of humor so I feel at ease practicing with him and his knowledge is insane! Not only for saxophone but in so many other areas of music! You'd be doing yourself a favor to take at least an hour lesson from him and see how you go.

Seth and I had a great first lesson. I haven't played in a long time and he gave me helpful pointers on how to improve my embouchure. He gave me positive feedback on my rhythm and constructive feedback on my tone. We worked through some songs together. Next time I will probably ask him to play some more for me so I can hear what I need to improve for a particular song. I highly recommend him.

Scales study, Intonation practice, Chordal mastery, Improvisation

About Joseph
Joseph R. has 5 years of experience teaching students elementary, middle school-aged children and adults on to how to play keyboard, guitar, flute and saxophone while sharing his learning experience with them as a self-taught saxophone and flute player and his more conventional education on piano and guitar.

Joe started developing his musical talent through piano lessons at the age of 7. After only a year of formal study, he began to experiment with other instruments such as the bamboo flute, the guitar and the drums. When he moved to the United States at the age of 13, he was introduced to the school’s band where he chose to hone his skills with the flute. Since then, he has been exposed to classical and symphonic repertoire. During high school, he joined the marching band and at the same time, found interest in jazz and alto saxoph
one. He decided to pursue a career in music by majoring in Jazz Studies and Performance at the University of California in Irvine where he has received his Bachelors degree in Music. He is currently performing at local jazz clubs, formal events and concerts. He would like to continue to inspire his students while nurturing his passion.

I figure out exactly where you are in your technique and knowledge of music and of the instrument. Then, I start teaching from there! For me, the goal of lessons should be the goal of the student, and I do my best to honor that!

I also encourage my advanced Jr. High and High School students to audition for various honor groups throughout California such as SCSBOA, CBDA, etc. With my background in these groups, I can effectively help my students prepare for the best audition they can do.

About Eric
Hi! I'm Eric, a Saxophonist, Composer, Singer, and Teacher that was born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, writing music for as long as I can remember, and singing since I was in elementary school. I play for a variety of groups in Los Angeles, and sometimes perform in L.A. and surrounding areas at venues such as the LightHouse, Saint Rocke, Avalon, and the Baked Potato.

I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. I give students assignments to work on, not only so they don't forget what we talk about, but also so they can also expand upon the concepts given in lessons, (which familiarizes them more with the information). I look forward to helping you unlock your potential!

Saxophone has been my main instrument for over 40 years. I have played professionally all over the USA as well as international travel and solo recordings. I have played for broadway musicals as well as movie soundtracks. From solo street performing to big band and orchestra from Bach to Rock and everything in between, reading is essential as well as improvisation in all these styles to be a truly successful musician. I can teach you the skills necessary to go as far as you want.

About Dave
I have been teaching privately since 1987 and am available to teach at my home studio or your home. I have helped students achieve first chair positions in school band, pass college entrance auditions, become professional musicians, and become successful private instructors.

I received my training at Oral Roberts University from 1980-1985 where I received a degree in Music Composition and worked on my Master's degree in Woodwind Doubling at Azusa Pacific University from 2008-2011.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Della Reese, Johnny Mathis, Vicki Carr, Andre Crouch, as well as played and written for cartoons such as "Ren and Stimpy", "Angry Beavers", "Jimmy Neutron", and various children's projects for Disney and Sesame Street.

I've got decent experience in teaching all ages what made me create my own approach to helping students reach their goals fast. All of my students perform and teach jazz music, the latest one is accepted to Manhattan School of Music this year. Some of my students won international competitions in jazz (15-18 y.o. category). I also have my own method of teaching jazz and improvising at the elementary level and love working with kids.

About Konstantin
I am a highly organised, outcome-driven and motivated professional music teacher with solid experience of 15 years. I am very comfortable with all aspects of teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone colour, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition, and reading and listening skills. I possess solid understanding of these concepts and skills in the context of various musical styles, periods and genres. I am fully qualified with a Master's Degree in music from Moscow State University. I am proficient in a collection of brass woodwind instruments, such as saxophone, flute and clarinet.

Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I strongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of peopl
e, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. You will find me to be a down-to-earth and amiable person, with excellent communication skills and professional presentation. My empathy and my interpersonal skills enable me to freely discuss any matter of concern with both students and parents of diverse social backgrounds. I believe this is a role to which I could bring great value, exercising and broadening my music teaching experience, and helping students develop their talents while nurturing their passion for music.

As a graduate of California State University Northridge with a degree in music performance I have a large pool of knowledge from which to equip my students with all that they need in order to progress in their pursuance of making music. I have worked with Melissa Manchester, Jimmy Borges (Hawaii'n Frank Sinatra), and Barbara Morrison and have studied under Rob Lockart, Katisse Buckingham, Bob Shepperd, and Gary Pratt.

About Garrett
I am a graduate student from California State University Northridge with a degree in Jazz Studies. I have been playing the saxophone for 12 years now and flute for about 5. I have been fortunate to study under Rob Lockart and Katisse Buckingham, both studio giants in their own respects and with luck I will there too one day. As of now I have worked with Jimmy Borges, Barbara Morrison, as well as Melissa Manchester, all great vocalists that I considered myself lucky to work with. I have been teaching now off and on when I had the time and look forward to working with more students in the future as there is not enough music education made available to the masses anymore.
