I'm currently not taking beginner students on voice/singing, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Melissa though. Please check out her profile:

My Background

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar cla
sses in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.

Philosophy of Learning

Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.

I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Once or twice a year we'll also stage a larger event off site for more individual students and bands classes to perform.
Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.

Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

My studio is equipped with:

*Music Stands

*A P.A. System

*Vocal and instrument microphones

*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc

*Two guitar amps and a bass amp

*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set

*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set

*An electric piano console and Yamaha organ

*A MicroKorg Synthesizer

*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, and Flute

*An extensive physical and virtual music library

*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to

*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

Experienced Sax Teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students progress quickly in the direction they want to go. I specialize in rock, blues and jazz, and I use my own method for teaching which takes 10% of the usual time of most methods. I have a video that demonstrates that.

About Rick
I’ve always loved teaching from a young age; finding new ways to break down complex ideas and techniques and making it fun and easy is something that gives me a lot of satisfaction. If you want to play your favorite songs on saxophone, I can save you years of frustration and slow progress.

At the bottom of this page, I have a YouTube video of 3 of my sax students' incredibly fast progress. None of them had ever played saxophone, You can do that too! It’s easy and fun. No boring scales, exercises and dumb tunes. Just a simple, easy way to becoming a great sounding sax player in 1/10th the time. This method has worked for over 1000 students and works 100% of the time if you commit to practice.

I guarantee if you commit to practicing 30 minutes 5 days a week for 4 months and you don't see the success in the video I will give you ALL
of your money back. I have 3 Grammy nominations but the proof of what i can do for you is in this video. Search this title on Youtube:
"Demo of My Sax Students Improvising Progress- 5th lesson to 16th lesson" or just click the video at the bottom of this page.

This is my primary instrument and the one I am the most excited about. I've been teaching saxophone for a year and my students have gone on to perform in area-all-state competitions and concerts in the NY area. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a few folk songs and as time goes on you'll be able to read treble clef. I specialize in classical, typically use Rubank or Jump Right In books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: metronome, and laptop. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Robin
Hi, there! My name is Robin L. and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2014 and have loved helping my students learn to play their band instrument for solo competitions, or just for fun! I went to Roberts Wesleyan College and earned a degree in music education (K-12) in 2016. I'm an energetic and fun person. I believe that with hard work and dedication, you can accomplish anything; but I also believe that the process should be fun! I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I have played the saxophone for over ten years and have acquired the skills and knowledge that I really want to share with young and eager saxophonists. It is common to think of the saxophone primarily in a jazz setting, however, I like to show the classical side of the instrument. What does that entail for my students? Firstly, they will learn how to emulate different tone colors on the saxophone. What does that mean? At times, students will make the saxophone sound like clarinet, oboe, or flute. Secondly, technique...the nitty gritty tedious part of playing any instrument which I will handle by assigning weekly scale exercises and use method books like Voxman and Rubank. Finally, I will introduce and always encourage my students to listen to classical pieces and write a little bit about what they are hearing. This might start out in a lesson where I am guiding them and then let them do it on their own. I am excited to meet and cannot wait to teach you all!

I focus on making sounds from the instrument and getting the basics of wetting the reed, using just the mouth piece, and demonstrating different capabilities and sounds from my own playing. Once the basics are learned I move on to simple pieces together and get them used to hearing melodies through the saxophone.

About Matthew
I am a graduate student pursuing an MFA in Electronic Music and received my dual degree BM from Berklee College of Music in Composition and Electronic Production and Design.

I am an alto/tenor saxophonist and clarinetist, performing in symphonic wind ensembles, orchestras, and musical theatre pit ensembles. I also sing in concert choirs as a baritone/bass, and have played lead and supportive roles on stage in musical theatre shows.

As a composer I write choral, chamber, musical theatre and electroacoustic music. My other works include sonic installation pieces that encompass recording, sampling, mixing, surround sound, and production. I have also written music and created sound effects for several video games and trailers.

I can teach composition, orchestration, and basics in mixing, production, and sound design. In instrumental
studies I teach classical, contemporary, or musical theatre pit orchestra, and musical theatre training for voice and/or acting.
