Saxophone was the first instrument, aside from Piano, that I started to play. I started in 4th grade with this instrument until my middle school teacher in 6th grade asked me to switch to French horn. I continued to perform on Saxophone in our school's Jazz ensemble in Middle School and High School. I no longer play the Saxophone but can still teach students how to play the instrument!

About Beckie
Hi!
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the Trumpet, French horn, Saxophone, Mandolin, Guitar, Clarinet, Voice, and Piano.

I graduated from Chapman University in 2010 with 2 degrees in music, Music Education and Music Performance on French horn. I am currently in my second year at UCLA for my masters in Music Performance on French horn.

When I first began teaching, I taught at an elementary school for 3 years as a brass coach for a Montessori Academy. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 13 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.

I have worked for many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and California Philharmonic.

I currently am a freelance musician.
I perform regularly with the UCLA Philharmonia and UCLA Wind Ensemble-the top two performing groups at the music school. I also am in horn ensemble called the Thursday Horn Club. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!

I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to go at the pace of the student. I am very patient but I expect the student to practice during the week. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.

For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.

I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)

I also have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterwards so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

I had next to no experience on the horn, and I had learned and improved greatly from the first lesson. From my experience, should you need to jump into horn from the bottom, Beckie is the ideal teacher because of her attention to detail and positive attitude that makes progress exponential.

She canceled and rescheduled so many lessons due to personal reasons, such as playing somewhere, house construction, etc. When my wife sent her text because my son couldn't make a lesson, she didn't check and charged anyway for no-show. The she cancelled all the remaining lessons. I don't think she is very professional.

Sorry Beckie, but you need to set your priority before taking students. My son is not something you can give lesson whenever you feels like.

About Natsuki
Hello Students/Parents:

I have been playing saxophone for 18 years and currently I am playing professionally in the Los Angeles area. I have been teaching music for more than 8 years and have been able to find fun and creative methods for helping my students succeed.

I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and surrounded by a musical family. I started playing piano at age 4 and started playing saxophone at age 10. I continued my woodwind training in high school by learning to play flute and clarinet. After beginning saxophone, I found I had a passion for big band jazz music. I joined a big band for young musicians and played lead alto with the band for almost 6 years.

After graduating from high school, I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston on scholarship where I studied performance and jazz composition. While I was in Bost
on, I was fortunate to play lots of gigs around town and was also a featured soloist on a number of recitals, recordings, and film scores.

In May 2010, I graduated from Berklee College of Music and moved to Los Angeles. Always maintaining a busy schedule, I have been performing with a number of talented musicians at several venues in the LA area. In addition to playing live shows, I have been recording for film/TV music.

I love all kinds of music: Classical, Pop, Jazz, Rock etc…
Some of my favorite artists/influences include:
Cannonball Adderley, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and many more

Thank you so much for stopping by my page and hope to work with you soon!

Best,
Natsuki

Natsuki is extremely patient with my 9 yr old daughter who is a beginning clarinet player.
I would recommend Natsuki to anyone from beginner to professional.
After a few lessons my daughter had the courage to play a solo piece at her school holiday concert.

All ages, all levels, various styles including: jazz, classical, commercial/contemporary music

About Fernando
Hello there! My name is Fernando, and I bring lots of profession playing and teaching experience to the table. I am an active musician in several local bands of various styles and genres, including jazz bands, Latin jazz bands, sax quartets, church groups, and musicals. I have played across southern California, several other states including Nevada (Reno Jazz Festival), Portugal, and Mexico.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, from CSUF. I also hold a valid California Teaching Credential, which I completed through CSUF. I also hold an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Fullerton College. I am also currently working on my Master's Degree in Music Conducting.

I am the Instrumental and Choral Music Teacher at Buena Park Jr. High School, in the city of Buena Park, where I teach band, orchestra, percussion
, and choir.

I have also taught woodwinds for various high schools across southern California, as well as a marching/visual coach for marching bands.

I front and lead my own Christian Contemporary Band. We've recorded two albums, of which I have composed the original music/lyrics, and produced both albums. We are currently working on our third album.

I can teach everything from jazz, to classical, rock, blues, Latin genres (salsa, merengue, bolero, mambo, etc.), and even contemporary Christian music in both English and Spanish.

I mix all of these experiences and knowledge into a big melting pot, and apply it very efficiently and wisely so that my students can positively benefit from a wonderful and exciting real-world musical journey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I base my lessons around the student's needs for musical growth, and their own likes and dislikes. If there is something specific that the student wants to learn, as far as a style/genre or piece of music, I foster that and I help encourage musical growth and enjoyment around that.
I am constantly encouraging my students to listen to as much music as possible, or better yet, to watch and listen to as much live music as possible. I strongly believe that this nurtures musical growth and serves as a role model.
I am very patient and laid back, but I do expect the student to have fun while staying constant with individual practice. There is no substitution for perseverance, consistency, and hard work, but it doesn't mean that we will not have fun while we make music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
An upright Yamaha acoustic piano is available, along with a Korg and Kurzweil digital keyboards, music stands, computer music software for studying repertoire (music), a large collection/library of books containing scales, exercises, music, etc. I also can make copies or print something for you if necessary. A sound system is available for listening to something is necessary. Flute, saxophone, and clarinet students must provide their own instrument, but I can point you in the right direction in terms of acquiring an instrument either for purchase or rental from a local music retail store.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must provide their own instrument, except piano if student comes to my home for lessons. Student must also provide books (as assigned), and metronome for practicing at home. I can carry with me things such as: saxophone, clarinet, flute, a portable music stand, metronome/tunes, pencil, paper, and any other book(s) or materials as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach classical, jazz/contemporary, funk, latin, blues, contemporary Christian, improvisation and music theory at very advanced levels.

My lessons are very student driven and revolve around developing students innate music abilities to help them connect and experience success as well as enriching their lives with music. In my lessons students will develop music appreciation skills by listening to music, understanding basic music theory concepts, growing a knowledge of historical awareness in music all alongside learning the instrument of their chosen preference. About Joseph
Joseph R. has 5 years of experience teaching students elementary, middle school-aged children and adults on to how to play keyboard, guitar, flute and saxophone while sharing his learning experience with them as a self-taught saxophone and flute player and his more conventional education on piano and guitar.

Joe started developing his musical talent through piano lessons at the age of 7. After only a year of formal study, he began to experiment with other instruments such as the bamboo flute, the guitar and the drums. When he moved to the United States at the age of 13, he was introduced to the school’s band where he chose to hone his skills with the flute. Since then, he has been exposed to classical and symphonic repertoire. During high school, he joined the marching band and at the same time, found interest in jazz and alto saxoph

I teach all ranges and ages of students, to develop technique, sound, proper hand position, articulation, and musicality. It is my goal to help every student to ultimately find their own voice with their instrument.

For my Middle School and High School students, I find preparing them to audition for Southern California Honors Band (and potentially All-State Band) to be very rewarding and a great goal. Even if they choose not to audition or don't get in, great strides are made in their playing.

About Benjamin

I am currently the saxophone professor at California State University, Northridge, I also maintain a studio of private saxophone and clarinet students throughout Los Angeles County, and am the saxophone and clarinet instructor at HYPERIUMconservatory in Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes.

I specialize in everything from beginners in elementary or middle school through high school students, college audition preparation, and also teach undergraduate and graduate students.

I previously held teaching positions at the University of Southern California, Sinai Akiba Academy, and Young Musicians Foundation.

Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

A woodwind player since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach intermediate and beginning saxophone lessons.

About Thomas
No one ever regrets learning an instrument… yet many grow old wishing they had taken music lessons! A talent they’ll be able to develop their entire life, your children will thank you for giving them the chance to learn music. And bonus points for you: after just a couple years, you’ll have free entertainment every Christmas!

Or maybe YOU’RE the one that wishes to learn! It is never too late to begin learning an instrument. Yes, I'm trying to get you to sign up for lessons, and yes I sincerely mean that. Everybody has the ability, and if you’re determined and interested, there’s nothing stopping us from achieving this very special goal. (Interested in learning to compose? Scroll to the bottom to learn more.)

Everybody learns differently, and everybody likes different things. Whether it’s improvising or singing alongside a song you
love or reading through a classical concerto, I’ll help prepare you or your child to tackle a wide variety of styles, without missing out on any of the basics that turn good players into phenomenal musicians. We all know it’s not about being the best. It’s about having fun, and playing music well is definitely fun.

Practice makes perfect! Learning an instrument helps build self-confidence and discipline. If your child’s bored, distracted, or just needs a constructive hobby, music is a great place to get them interested in something that will help them feel better about themselves, and the effects will be felt across everything else they do, through better studying habits to a more patient, diligent work ethic.

It’s also relaxing! Stressed about work? Need an escape? Maybe you want to sound like [insert piano player here]. Everybody has the power to learn an instrument. Seriously, there’s no such thing as “talent.” Just start lessons and get practicing! It really is that simple, and I’ll guide you through every step of the way.

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all. My experience as a working musician in films, musical theater, and pop music, as well as classical concert music, allows me to appreciate and teach styles that many other instructors overlook, and I know full well that learning an instrument is not about becoming a professional; it’s about being able to connect to others or oneself through music… and also to just have fun! There’s no need to learn music we don’t like! It’s not about stuffing Beethoven into your kids’ ears… we just want to make music, be that Beethoven or Billy Joel.

Music lasts a lifetime. I know that’s a terrible cliché, but it’s true, and few other skills can claim that. I don’t want to sugarcoat it: it takes time to learn an instrument. It takes practice, and sometimes it’s frustrating. But the results are well worth it, and like a snowball rolling down a hill, the longer you do it, the faster you get… or something like that. There’s a legitimate analogy in there somewhere.

Now get out there and make some music! But start by signing up for lessons. I can’t wait to get started!

---

“What’s that chord?” “Why does all my music sound the same?” “How do I fix this voicing?” “I just can’t get it out of my head!” …sound familiar? You’ve probably hit a rut. Or maybe you’re just starting out. Either way, you want your music to sound new, exciting, and to come out exactly how you hear it in your head. Yes… you CAN learn to compose music, you CAN learn to be more creative, and you CAN learn to share your sound with the world.

Film music, classical, jazz… whatever your interest, all music comes from the same place, and by learning a handful of basic concepts, you can apply these to whatever style you’re trying to write. Learning to emulate another musician involves knowing what they’re doing. Learning to create a groundbreaking sound requires that you know what’s already been done, and how to achieve it. Step by step, we’ll work our way there.

We’ll learn how to write cool, interesting chord progressions, how to write beautiful melodies, and how to voice chords. We’ll learn how to control the mood of our music, from making it sound relaxed to adding tension wherever we want. Maybe you’re trying to write for an orchestra, or just a small band. By learning the basics, you can then easily break away from what’s been done and come up with something truly new… the goal of any aspiring composer!

I specialize in rock, blues and jazz, and I use my own method for teaching which takes 10% of the usual time of most methods. I have a video that demonstrates that.

About Rick
I’ve always loved teaching from a young age; finding new ways to break down complex ideas and techniques and making it fun and easy is something that gives me a lot of satisfaction. If you want to play your favorite songs on saxophone, I can save you years of frustration and slow progress.

At the bottom of this page, I have a YouTube video of 3 of my sax students' incredibly fast progress. None of them had ever played saxophone, You can do that too! It’s easy and fun. No boring scales, exercises and dumb tunes. Just a simple, easy way to becoming a great sounding sax player in 1/10th the time. This method has worked for over 1000 students and works 100% of the time if you commit to practice.

I guarantee if you commit to practicing 30 minutes 5 days a week for 4 months and you don't see the success in the video I will give you ALL
of your money back. I have 3 Grammy nominations but the proof of what i can do for you is in this video. Search this title on Youtube:

I'm a senior citizen without a shred of innate musical talent. LOL The idea of being able to improvise the blues on a saxophone was a wild and unattainable fantasy….until I met Rick. I had already checked out lots of other jazz saxophone teachers online so I knew within the first few lessons that Rick was unique. He was able to simplify my problems and help me make great progress right away. With enthusiasm, this celebrated musician took me through all the baby steps - first to get a respectable sound, and then through his ingenious system of improvisation. I'm moving at what I would say is warp speed in learning to improvise, already reaching levels of soloing that were only in my dreams. But the real bonus on top of Rick's fantastic teaching method and system is Rick the man, and the relationship this star musician forms with a student. His humility amazes me at every lesson. Knowing how valuable his time must be, the fact that he encourages me to send recordings between lessons, and sends feedback on each one, is testament to how much he truly cares about a student's progress. It's a gift he generously gives. He is also a genius at how much criticism and how much encouragement a particular student needs. Could there possibly be a better teacher than Rick Rossi? I don't think so.

Troy was very patient with my 11 year son in teaching him the notes and in blowing into the clarinet swiftly. My son expressed that Troy was kindly and patiently with him in learning his first instrument.

Very nice and polite. Patient to my 4 and half boy, and even my son told me he likes troy after he left. I think we will keep him for my boy's piano lessons.

Saxophone has been my main instrument for over 40 years. I have played professionally all over the USA as well as international travel and solo recordings. I have played for broadway musicals as well as movie soundtracks. From solo street performing to big band and orchestra from Bach to Rock and everything in between, reading is essential as well as improvisation in all these styles to be a truly successful musician. I can teach you the skills necessary to go as far as you want.

About Dave
I have been teaching privately since 1987 and am available to teach at my home studio or your home. I have helped students achieve first chair positions in school band, pass college entrance auditions, become professional musicians, and become successful private instructors.

I received my training at Oral Roberts University from 1980-1985 where I received a degree in Music Composition and worked on my Master's degree in Woodwind Doubling at Azusa Pacific University from 2008-2011.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Della Reese, Johnny Mathis, Vicki Carr, Andre Crouch, as well as played and written for cartoons such as "Ren and Stimpy", "Angry Beavers", "Jimmy Neutron", and various children's projects for Disney and Sesame Street.

As an expert in my field, I look forward to h
elping new students achieve their goals.

I did my homework, as Dave asked, and within 15 minutes of practicing, almost all the keys/notes/finger placement came right back! Like a lightbulb. Thank you, Dave! I'm so excited to be playing again!
