In fact everyone I've mentioned above are pro all the way and great guys as well. I"m honored to have played with them.
I challenge my students to view music more than just as a "skill", but also a tool to communicate effectively and to combat life's obstacles.
I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday.
You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.
But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!
I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...

The main thing that I like to remind students of, when they take lessons with me, is that music is FUN! A lot of hard work goes into it, but the end result is always rewarding! I am a pretty laid back teacher, yet I still work to inspire my students to try their hardest and to be the best that they can be at what they do. It is very important to me that my students get their musical wants AND needs fulfilled.
In my lessons we will work on a variety of topics, including:
-Gaining a feel and command for your own instrument.
-Finding your SOUND: Helping you to produce the right tones on your instrument.
-EXERCISES: Scales, Etudes, etc. to strengthen the muscles being utilized while playing, and also to build up muscle memory and accuracy.
-Music Theory and Ear-Training
-Building your repertoire, which is necessary for performance.
-Arranging and Communication with your accompanying musicians.
-Exercising variation and creativity through improvisation.
-How to ...
About Makala
For me, having parents of different ethnicity and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon box of rhythms and sounds captivated and affected me so much that it is the key experience that I draw from in making my own music today.
I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska (a small town in the center of the state) so my only option for entertainment and fun was getting involved in the arts! I started performing at a very young age as both a dancer and a musician. I studied classical ballet, modern dance, hip hop and street dance, and world dance traditions throughout my formative years, which helped me to gain rhythmical fluency. I started my
I moved to Seattle in 2003 to study opera at Cornish College of the arts, only to later change my major to Jazz, and then again to Latin music studies. Since graduating from Cornish in 2007, with my Bachelor of Music degree, I have been actively and diligently working in the local music scene; performing and recording with artists and groups of many different styles. Everything from various Latin genres, to Rock, to R&B/Soul, to Hip Hop, and Jazz. Through my music, I aim to reach out to people of all cultures. I also aim to teach my own students with the hope that they too can discover the same continuous love of music that I have grown to feel (and still am growing to feel) over the years. :)
*** Studio Equipment ***
88 key piano, cello, various percussion instruments, guitars, ukulele, library, computer, lessons are given in a private studio.
*** Specialties ***
As far as voice goes, I teach all genres and styles but I personally specialize in the Latin genres. I teach all aspects of the music; rhythm, harmony, theory. I even teach performance; how to work with a band in real-time communication, song communication (or story telling as I like to call it), and developing ones own personal style. I believe that there is much more to singing than just vocal technique alone, so I believe in teaching musical fundamentals and functions so that my students will not only be considered vocalists, but competent musicians.

I've been a guitarist since I was eight, an arts tutor since I was 17, and now I'm a professional live musician for several artists signed/affiliated with major record labels. I also self-record my own pop music and gig around Seattle. I teach all ages and a variety of styles--classical, rock, pop, acoustic, bossa nova. I will help train your ear to tap into your body's natural musicality by using a variety of media and exercises. Being a good musician takes time and work, but art is an emotional expression--so we must have fun, no matter what!

I teach beginner all the way advanced students who are looking to improve as musicians or learn the guitar from square one. What's most important to me as a teacher is helping you achieve your goals in music. I have a decades plus worth of experience teaching and playing guitar and am currently an active member on the Seattle music scene performing at various venues around town; As an educator, I have 8 years of experience teaching students of all levels and styles and my focus for the student is tailoring lessons to best meet students' goals and putting them in the best possible scenario to achieve them.
About Jesse
I began teaching beginning guitar lessons to friends and classmates in high school. Ever since I picked up the guitar, I knew it was something that I wanted to pursue professionally because of the joy that it brought me. Being able to share that with other people is something I am very passionate about. I continued teaching beginning guitar and advanced jazz harmony to other guitarists in the music program to help pay tuition in college at USC. I taught at Music and Arts in Redmond during the summer after finish
Jazz is a style of music I specialize in and I teach it like teaching a language as I firmly believe that jazz is a language. I teach improvisation to not only guitar, but to all instruments as the concepts are the same. Improvisation lessons are fun and interactive and challenge you to be creative, which is what art is all about!
My teaching method is very flexible, as I am very aware that students learning styles and goals vary greatly. I am a patient teacher who will work to help put a student in a position to be successful and achieve his or her goals through lesson plans and teaching methods tailored to meet the student's learning style. Seeing students succeed and have fun making progress and improving as a musician brings me a lot of joy!
There is nothing more frustrating for a student than feeling like they're treading water trying to teach themselves. My goal is to make the learning process as fun as possible! One of the ways I do that is giving the student the opportunity to experiment with improvisation and explore the instrument during lessons and for when they practice at home to supplement the more formal training. This helps students develop their own individual sound on the instrument from day one, is fun and interactive, and gives the student the chance to be creative when learning a new instrument..

I customize my students curriculum based on their specific goals. I feel teaching students to play and transcribe songs and solos is my most important job. Most students come to me looking for structure so I try and provide a clear path for them to reach their goals. Although I love teaching music theory I understand that it is not for everyone, so I only offer theoretical principles when it is appropriate or asked for. I rarely use textbooks, but I do employ a lot of exercises and educational material when it applies to a lesson.
For students with no prior music experience I use text books, and exercises to strengthen their technique, expose them to musical ideas, and give them a foundation of basic music theory. After that is accomplished I move into a curriculum that is more personal to their specific goals.
About Jared
I have since moved to Seattle, WA and have become a regular fixture in the music community as a guitar and theory teacher, songwriter/guitarist of the pop rock bands Electric NoNo and Warren Dunes, and co founder and producer of the The Big Ass Boom Box Festival Seattle and the Seattle X Southwest showcase at SXSW Festival in Austin. I have released five studio albums that have received regional and national attention, toured regionally and nationally, and perform regularly at Seattle ma
I consider myself a life long student of music and I pride myself on my dedication to a complete understanding of my instrument. I offer beginner - advanced lessons for guitar and songwriting, and beginner - intermediate lessons for ukulele. I also administer a variety of workshops throughout the year for guitar, songwriting, and music theory, as well as bi annual student recitals.

A few key things about Jared I want to share:
- He is always prepared and does his homework
- Incredibly knowledgably and patient
- He finds a way to explain things so they make sense
- Always goes above and beyond what I expected
- He provides materials to aid in learning from videos, backing tracks, tablature and musical notation
- Always smiling and happy to be teaching music
I easily recommend Jared as a teacher to players looking to learn music from beginner though to advanced level. It was an absolute pleasure to be Jared’s student.

Jared breaks down songs into pieces, and provides a slowed down recording to play along with. I find this the absolute best part about practicing, to play along with Jared's recording. It also means if I haven't played a song for a while I can go back to the recording for the strum/structure.
Without Jared I don't think I would have stuck with the guitar, and after almost 18 months Jared is encouraging me to explore the electric guitar and take the lessons in a new direction.
There are regular performances with all the students, it's no pressure, and I haven't had one go perfectly yet while on the actual stage (in practice they are perfect) but they give students an opportunity to perform in an environment where they can make mistakes and just get out there and try it!
I would strongly recommend Jared as a guitar teacher - the recordings, the encouragement, the performances, he is a very dedicated teacher.

A major priority of my guitar teaching is to have students making expressive music every time they touch the instrument.
I begin by working on tone production on the open strings of the guitar, so that students are able to produce a full, beautiful tone on the first day. From there, we study left- and right- hand techniques in the context of real pieces of music, giving students the chance to apply the mechanics of guitar playing to the expression of musical ideas. At the same time, I work with students through progressive studies and warm-up exercises that have built-in expressive goals, so that they can learn to rely on their own ears to further refine their playing.
As I believe that a good guitarist is, first and foremost, a strong musician, I fold a number of diverse activities into weekly lessons, developing skills in music theory, ear training, sight reading, composition, and improvisation, all of which reinforce the acquisition of strong technique.
About Jeff
In 2010, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in classical guitar performance and composition from Stanford University, where I performed solo recitals of Bach, Mozart, Turina, and Henze, collaborated with the Stanford New Ensemble on contemporary chamber pieces, and played lead guitar in the heavy metal band Full Metal Apocalypse.
I recently received a Doctorate in music composition from the University of Washington in Seattle, wher
A major priority of my guitar teaching is to have students making expressive, compelling music every time they touch the instrument. And as I believe that a good guitarist is, first and foremost, a strong musician, I fold a number of diverse activities into weekly lessons, developing skills in music theory, fretboard knowledge, ear training, sight reading, composition, and improvisation, all of which reinforce the acquisition of strong technique.

I've been playing guitar for twenty years and teaching it for the past seven to kids and adults of all ages. When I’m teaching all my musical experience comes into play to create an fun, creative, and immersive experience. Both my formal musical training and history of playing in bands helps me incorporate the power of creativity and improvisation into every lesson. My degree in Music Composition has allowed me to create engaging theory/ear-training games and exercises to sharpen a student's ear and musical understanding. My experience in bands over the years ensures a focus on being able to play with others, harmony, and keeping consistent rhythm. It also helps out when learning the chords to the latest pop single! Overall, I make sure learning the instrument is fun, no matter what age or skill level you are. After all, fun is what kept me playing music consistently all these years!
