I started playing guitar when I was in the 8th grade. At that time I was into punk, and as I got older I moved into listening to classic rock, then blues, then all sorts of jazz and jam bands, and now classical and sacred art. And my playing of the guitar has following the same trajectory: I played in the style I listened to. One common thread through all of this has been an, at first unconscious, but now fully conscious focus on the art of improvisation.
Improvisation is central in my own playing, and what I deliberately bring my students to do. And this is not something vainly individualistic. Franz Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Chopin; Coltrane, Miles; Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan; Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Clapton; SRV, Albert King, BB King: what do all of these musicians have in common? They improvised, and were very good at it in their respective genres. Improvisation is a truly important aspect of playing music, and one which I will give due focus to. Besides this, I will teach the student technique, chords, scales, songs (chosen by both the student and, at times, myself), and later on: theory (including harmony and ear training).
I have a Master's Certificate in Theory, Harmony and Ear Training from Berklee College of Music's online extension.

Chase and I did not work together long because of other commitments. However, in the short time we did work together I learned a lot. Chase is easy going, highly skilled, very patient, and his teaching style is such that it fosters student confidence. I was really nervous at first, because I wasn't sure what to expect. Chase quickly made me feel at ease during the lesson. We only had half hour lessons, but that was definitely enough time to learn new materiel and make progress. I highly recommend him for guitar lessons.+ Read More
My son is 7 and really seems to like Chase. He came well prepared and finally someone has started to teach him some rock songs .
An Excellent Teacher!
Our daughter Charis has taken lessons from Chase for over 2 years. From the first lesson, his patient demeanor put her completely at ease. During that time we have seen her understanding of music and her love for guitar continue to grow.
Chase has a unique way of challenging his students to stretch in their ability while simultaneously making it a great deal of fun. I would absolutely recommend him to both the new and seasoned student alike.
My son, Harrison has been a guitar student of Chase Robinson's since May of 2013. As his student, Harrison has learned technique, scales, chords, theory, songs and improvisation. Chase is an incredibly knowledgeable and patient instructor. My husband and I have been extremely impressed with our son's progress over the last 2 1/2 years and are grateful to Chase for helping Harrison grow as a musician. We would highly recommend him to anyone interested in taking guitar lessons.+ Read More
Lessons with Mr. Chase were given to our daughter when she turned 13. My daughter loved taking guitar lessons with Chase. He is a very nice teacher, always on time, never missed a lesson. Kept my daughter challenged and each lesson was a step beyond the previous. They would have impromptu jam sessions and he would often stay over the scheduled time if she needed extra help. We only stopped taking lessons because he moved out of state.+ Read More
As I became interested in the idea of learning how to play guitar I started out and made it clear that I had absolutely no knowledge of anything regarding anything. I had the dreadful thought that I would become quickly disinterested since I had nightmares of having to play Mary had a little lamb for a month or make next to no progress in my lessons. After my first lesson I was completely wrong. Chase's ethic and method as a teacher highly impressed me as a student since he doesn't really have a lesson plan but builds one around you as an individual. He has visual representations that he gives with each new thing that way if you're like me where forgetting is a terrible curse bestowed upon you, you can refer back to it by looking at the paper things and the comments/scribbles he would make in areas you needed to put more attention towards. After each lesson Chase had the ability to shove an immense amount of knowledge in 30 minutes rather than a whole week for what I would think would be the average teacher, not only was he teaching me how to strum a chord or barre a pattern but in between he would give me detailed explanations on why each group sounds good together or why the sounds gives us a type of emotion when played as only a few examples. All in all I was never bored in any topic we decided to address that day. That was a fun part, was that each day it was something new and he taught you not what he felt like teaching but where you were as a student, if you were progressing in some areas that allowed you to move on but still need more practice on something else he wouldn't have you stay in one spot until you perfected it, he would help you with the area that was troublesome and teach you a new topic if you felt ready. Chase never rushes which was highly appreciated since learning an instrument can cause frustration which could lead to a feeling of hopelessness and eventually discouragement. THIS LEADS TO ANOTHER NOTE!! HIS PATIENCE IS HIS GREATEST QUALITY!! I can't recall how many times I had instances where I would've slapped myself acros the face for being incompetent and unteachable or just a hopeless cretin LOL. He never gets annoyed or impatient and on the contrary encourages you to make mistakes since they eventually allow you to form new techniques. That attitude is also what made his improvisation lesson such a confidence booster since instead of creating a planned session, he gives you scales to practice so that when improv time comes around you can make your own little pattern on the spot and not have to worry whether you suck or not. The point was to play in the moment and disregard any thought of your mess ups or how bad you sound, eventually these sessions became easier since you forget about judgement. His flexibility schedule wise was also awesome, as a high schooler with a part/full time job there were occasions where I was forced to change our designated day for the week due to some ridiculous excuse my sucky coworkers had, so it's very appreciated how willing he is to work with your personal life. IN CONCLUSION SINCE I FEEL LIKE I'M TYPING A NOVEL I would highly recommend anyone to allow chase to be their private instructor his personality is great, his ethics are great, and his entire being is great.+ Read More
My 15 year old daughter began taking weekly lessons with Chase just 2 and a half months ago, she is already writing her own songs and plays guitar for us in the evenings.
Chase is a very good instructor, Rebecca rattles off all kinds of musical terms to me now and it's like she knows a whole new language!
During my lessons with Chase Robinson, I have learned and done a variety of things. Chase has many admirable qualities like his patience, friendliness, and positive attitude, all these things contribute to an enjoyable, informative lesson. He allows one to focus on things that are preferable to you, like learning more songs or doing more music theory. I have learned improvisation, to play songs, notes, and much more. Not only has Chase taught me so much, but has fostered more of my understandment for music and has been as inspirational figure+ Read More

Great Choice with Chase R.
Hiring Chase to work with my daughter is one of the best decisions I've made. He has taught her new skills in guitar instruction and by doing has given her a level of confidence that empowers and motivates her. His level of dedication to her exceeds my expectation and as a result we will continue with additional lessons. Having an instructor that appreciates my daughters enthusiasm to learn more and that teaches techniques that further her scope as a guitar player has been a rewarding experience. Thank you Chase!
