Ukulele Lessons in Claremont, VA

I have played the ukulele for several years, and it is still one of my favorite instruments to listen to. It's a wonderful tool for learning basic music concepts and is pretty easy to pick up. I love teaching pop music adaptation and intricate picking techniques on this instrument.

You decide what we learn--we can start with learning to read and play from a book for steady, foreseeable progress and goals, or simply start with the chords of your favorite songs from the radio--we can even learn tab--or all three! In our first lesson, we will discuss what your personal goals are for the ukulele and formulate a plan for your individual success, based on the type of music YOU want to learn.

My primary goal as a teacher is to present musical material in a way that keeps students excited about what they are learning. Even with absolute beginners, I will have a student playing actual songs that they are interested in as quickly as possible. Along with way I include fundamentals such as scales, strength-building exercises, rudiments of theory, and ear training.
I also use interactive music websites to introduce students to concepts of music theory.

With frets that are smaller and closer together, the ukulele is a wonderful introduction for kids (and adults) who are interested in learning and instrument. Lessons are fun and geared toward maintaining rhythm patterns and building upon existing skills.

The Ukulele has seen a resurgence in recent years, and is a really fun and easier instrument to learn. Like the guitar, I teach beginners basic chords and rhythms to get them playing their favorite songs as soon as possible.
